The 10th North Lincoln Regiment of Foot is a regiment for Napoleonic Wars. We aim to provide a variety of skills in shooting, melee and tactics. Combining the skillbase of our experienced members with the ambition of newer ones is the best way to reach this goal. This also ensures a solid base to build respect and recognition for each other. The 10th values discipline over anything else. Discipline is the key of providing a proper team spirit and the mentality to stand in for your comrades. All this, however, just serves one goal which stands above all others: Having fun as part of something and enjoying the possibilities of NW in a community built on fairness and respect.
SHORT HISTORY OF THE ROYAL LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT
|
Formed in 1685, the 10th Regiment of Foot fought in the Nine Years' War and in the major battles of the War of Spanish Succession at Blenheim, Ramillies and Malplaquet. The regiment was on garrison duty in the UK and Gibraltar until 1767 when they were sent to North America. During the American War of Independence, they were part of the British march on Concord and then at the Battle of Breed's (Bunker) Hill. It was during this time that they gained the nickname 'The Springers' because of their rapid marching. In 1801 the tenth was part of the Eygptian Expedition. Commanded by General Baird the Indian Contingent of the British Army in Eygpt arrived in Kosseir on the Red Sea coast. Baird marched his men across the desert to support General Hutchinson but when they arrived they found the French were on the point of surrendering. General Baird's Division remained in Eygpt until the peace of Amiens. The first battalion of the regiment served in Eastern Spain in 1812/1813 with Murray at Castalla and Tarragona and the second in the Walcheren Expedition of 1809.
