Commanding help.
« on: October 17, 2014, 03:19:09 pm »
I have the general idea on how to command because I was in a regiment for a bit, but I forgot the different things you need to say for orders. For example the whole: Form on left, march etc. If I can be told or given a link to something that can reteach me these that would be great.
Thanks.

Join a good regiment listen to what they do and then copy it :)

You can pretty much make up your own commands if you want to, but actual commands given are publicly available, you could ask in the historical section for some sources, for personally I don't have them.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

I made a public drill book with commands and formations, it's all free to use however you wish! :)

Thanks guys, problem was I know what to do and I can describe the formations, but I can't remember the names of them and what you say for orders, this clears things up.

The most common orders I give are:

Column
Line
Form Column/Line on my Left/Right
Move Out
Advance (While in Line Formation)
Halt
Hold Position
Wheel Left/Right
Left/Right Face
Present/Fire!!!!
Charge!!!
Fix Bayonets!!!!
Get that fucking flag out of my face!!

And of course, retreat!!!!

Double lines=Front Rank Down/Present/Fire!!
Straighten a Double Line out= Left Face!  Right Face!  (Viola, your double line is now straight!)

00th Intergalactic Space Regiment specific commands:

Form Quad Rank!
Operation Red Mist is in Effect!
Operation Brown Mist is in Effect!
Who wants to be Captain this round?

Should you really be commanding a regiment if you have "forgotten" even the most basic commands; a prerequisite for even the noobiest C.O.?

Believe me, I asked myself that same question, but the two COs below me insisted that I lead the regiment. Most likely because I'm the only one bothered to make a regiment page and do some basic research in ranks and things. I don't blame myself for forgetting the commands (apart from forward march, present, fire and all those easy ones) since I haven't attended a line battle for a year and a bit now. Anyways, my Kapitan and Mayor will do most of the leading, I'm more of a thinker than a leader. So I can strategize and tell them to make it happen.
