II. Musketier Battalion

"Eind hundsfott, wer noch schießt! Zur Attacke Gewehr rechts!"
General von Horn to the second battalion of the Leib regiment at the battle of Wartenburg

The 8. Leib Regiment (1st Brandenburgish) was formed on June 6th, 1808 following the reforms to the Prussian army following the dissaster of 1806. The regiment was formed from two kompanies of the Grenadier Battalion Von Wald Rock (formed in 1806 in Pomerania from Ranzionierten), The second battalion of the Pommeranian reserve regiment and the third battalion of the Neumärk reserve regiment. The regiment was initially in numbered 9th in the line, but  when the guards were moved out, they were pushed up to be 8th. The Leib Regiment was one of the most decorated units of the  Prussian army, and took part in close to every battle of 1813-15. Originally the 9th Infantry regiment, the Leib Regiment became the 8th regiment in line when the Foot Guards were removed. The regiment fought at Grotz Gorschen, Lindenau, Colditz, Konigswartha, Bautzen, Horselberg, Lowenberg, Bunzlau, Hochfirch, Bischoffswerda, Wartenburg, Modern, Fribourg, Simmern, Brienne, Bitrch, La Chaussée, Châlons, Montmirail, Méry, Laon, Trilport, Claye-Souilly, and Paris in 1813-1814.

The 8. Leib-Infanterie-Regiment at the battle of Wartenburg:

When Horn heard the heavy firing to his right, he was of the opinion that he could not wait for the arrival of Hünerbein’s brigade. York agreed: “Yes Horn, now its time”. In front was the 2nd battalion of the Leib Regiment, next the Löwenberger Landwehr (Count Reichenbach), finally the 1st battalion of the Leib Regiment. York yelled at the advancing troops to keep to their left, in order not to get into deep water. So they went through the orchards, and many took a plum from the trees. The 2nd battalion found itself, as well as the landwehr on their right, under heavy fire when it came close to the ditch. It began to return fire, but what result could be attained this way? At that moment Horn’s horse was hit by a musket ball in the breast, and it went down. he answered the yell “the general is dead!” with a healthy curse. The men closest to him aided him to free him from the dead horse. He took the musket of a killed musketeer, yelling: “Eind hundsfott, wer noch schieβt! Zur Attacke Gewehr rechts!” Headed by the general, the battalion waded through the marsh in front of them and climbed the dike. The Löwenberger Landwehr followed, and the remainder of the Lieb Fusilier battalion joined them. The enemy skirmishers ran back. The five battalions standing behind them, Italians, broke as well. A second bushy dike five hundred paces further behind could provide them cover. However, the skirmishers and Captain Holleben did not give them time to rally. One saw a general to rally his men in vain, but not even the cannon deployed with them were saved. (...)

York himself singled out especially the 2nd battalion of the Leib Regiment, which had climbed the dike first. When the battle had been ended victoriously, the troops marched past York, Every commanding officer was greeted. When however the above named battalion arrived, York asked if this was the 2nd battalion of the Leib Regiment. When the answer was yes, he took of his hat, and example followed by his whole entourage, until the battalion had passed.”

History

One of the glorious moments of the 46e Regiment was during the battle of Austerlitz.
There they fought under the command of General Dominique Joseph Rene Vandamme in the 2nd Division of the IV Corps.
General Vandamme's division attacked an area called Staré Vinohrady ("Old Vineyards") and, through talented skirmishing and deadly volleys, broke several Allied battalions.

The decisive attacks on the Allied center by St. Hilaire and Vandamme split the Allied army in two and left the French in a golden strategic position to win the battle.

The battle turned in France's favour, but it was far from over.
Napoleon ordered Bernadotte's I Corps to support Vandamme's left and moved his own command center from Žuráň Hill to St. Anthony's Chapel on the Pratzen Heights.
The difficult position of the Allies was confirmed by the decision to send in the Russian Imperial Guard to counterattack Vandamme's division.
This forced a bloody effort and the only loss of a French standard in the battle (a battalion of the 4th Line Regiment was defeated).
Sensing trouble, Napoleon ordered his own heavy Guard cavalry forward.
These men pulverized their Russian counterparts, but with both sides pouring in large masses of cavalry, no victory was clear.

By 1400 hours, the Allied army had been dangerously separated.
Napoleon now had the option to strike at one of the wings, and he chose the Allied left since other enemy sectors had already been cleared or were conducting fighting retreats.
Doing this, he secured the French victory.
The immense fighting to split the allied lines were highly praised by Napoleon and thus, the 46e, earned their second battle honour since Zurich.

13te (Schlesische) Landwehr Regiment

About us

Hello, we are the 13te Landwehr regiment, a new but willing regiment hoping to join this great community. We are a group of players who have played together in several regiments and have much experience with the game, so we decided to make a new regiment. Together we hope to have fun and experience the challenges of leading a regiment in NW, and most importantly overcoming them. However, while having fun is the most important thing, there are some basic rules;

Rules of the regiment:

  • Respect the leaders and their decisions
  • Do not try to troll or do other annoying activities during battle or trainings
  • No blatant -ism which we do not consider appropriate (Ex. Racism, Nazism)
  • Do what you are told to when spoken to by a superior rank during battles and trainings

History of the Landwehr Regiments

Father and son in the Landwehr, heading out to war.

The 13te was a Landwehr regiment in the service of the Kingdom of Prussia. The Landwehr were raised after Napoleon’s dramatic defeat in the 1812 campaign and the subsequent declaration of war between France and Prussia. This war raised the need of a new army to protect the fatherland; this new breed of troops was called the Landwehr.

The Landwehr differed much from the regular line infantry of the Prussian army, they lacked standardized equipment, were poorly trained and looked like rags. However what they may have lacked in formal training and equipment they made up with enthusiasm and fervent nationalism. The Landwehr were lead by officers from the Freiwilliges Jaegers, a volunteer corps of young men who volunteered into the regular army and due to their merits became officers in the Landwehr. These officers were good leaders for the Landwehr as they had the regular training and knowledge from the regulars but still had the enthusiasm of the troops they commanded.

Even though the early battles of the Landwehr were rough as they faced the French veterans, after they won smaller victories their confidence and experience increase and they became more and more able to face off against the French infantry. Pulling off astonishing victories such as Hagelberg and Dennewitz, showing that they were reliable and tough just like the regulars. Some of the most hard fighting regiments of Landwehr were those from the province of Silesia in southern Prussia, the 13te was one of these Silesian Landwehr regiments.

Vorwärts! Für König und Vaterland!

Campaigns the 13te participated in:

  • 1813: Spring campaign, Leipzig Campaign
  • 1814: Campaign in France, 6 days' campaign
  • 1815: Waterloo campaign
