So, I'd figured it was about time I posted my kit as a whole for once as well. Excusez-moi for potato quality photos.

Spoiler

My black trousers and woolen waistcoat. On the left you see my short, grey gaiters and on the right my long, black, nice ones. Don't have any white trousers for now, since my Pantalon de Corvee is being worked on. I hope you yanks enjoy the bed covers.

Spoiler

My short jacket. Mostly used as work/camp/training clothing. Also usuable if I ever want to potray a sailor, but nah. Marines all the way.

Spoiler
[close]

Tailcoat (literally the only piece of gear which I still loan from the depot, everything else in these pictures is 100% mine) with red epaulets next to it.

Spoiler
[close]

Everybody loves a Bonnet de Police. Much better than those ugly Pokalems.

Spoiler

My 1797 regulations bicorne. I simply love it, looks much better than what most in my unit have.

Spoiler

1810 Issue Shako. I get a headache by just looking at this thing.

Spoiler

Various Leatherworks: French style cartridge box, sabre, bayonet and cross-belts.

And a bonus. Yes, I actually kept this thing as a souvenir.

I also have various other stuff not pictured here. The usual stuff, like shirt, cravatte, plate, cups, canteen, breadbag etc.

The Pokalem wasn't even generally issued until the Germany Campaign. I admit, it looks kinda silly, but a well-made pokalem actually looks rather good. If it had a visor, it would have looked even better.

and I also must admit that I much more prefer the looks of the pre-Bardin French uniforms. It might have been less practical, but they sure do look better.

Shouldn't the bayonet be on the cartridge-box sling?

I honestly have no idea. Everybody in my unit has theirs next to their sabre-briquet. I sure hope we don't have it wrong, because that means I have to replace both my black and white leatherworks which I JUST BOUGHT A FEW MONTHS BACK.

Al though it wouldn't be that weird, come to think of it. I mean, 75% of our equipment is French or French styled, anyway. And considering they had their bayonets on their cartridgebox sling...

I think it originates from the fact that a few years after the creation of the Batavian Republic, the army officially petitioned the War Department asking that everybody would be issued sabres (before that, only grenadiers got them, and that didn't go with the 'equality' of the revolution). And why switch bayonets to the other side?

All of Suhr's depictions of Dutch infantry show no bayonets frogs next to the sabre

In fact, even the Dutch National Guard in 1813, a direct successor of the Batavian Armed Citizenry, clearly have their bayonet frogs on the cartridge box sling

It also shows the bayonet frogs being a lot closer then most people (including me) have them on their belts, but that might just be artist interpretation.

Well, not necessarily, this is by no way a concluded research. But yeah, it ought to be looked into.

Hmm, this adds up to some other things I also found. Mainly the fact that most Batavians are depicted as wearing long black gaitors, instead of the short grey/white ones we use now. Plus, it seems most Batavian bicornes had tassles at the sides, another thing we don't have and the lace over the cockade is potraited a lot as being silver instead of black.

Does anyone here do milsurp? I've recently gotten into collecting random military surplus from the 20th century.
