Introduction
Hello everyone! I have decided to rehost The Napoleonic Wars Champions League! This time around, Season 2 will not only be a new competitive draft league for the community, but it will also incorporate a new idea to involve more players in the community. If you want to compete, fill out the player sign-up template listed below.
NWCL S2 will have teams assembled by a captain via a standard draft night, but each team has 2 subsequent teams (a League 1 team and a League 2 team) below it and they run at the same time. Each team will have a League 1 and League 2 team/roster, each with their own group stage and bracket. The idea for having a League 2 is to promote playing time for all players and to make a competitive environment where players are able to sign up, play, have fun, and improve. The explanation on how this will all work is explained in detail below, as well as, in the ruleset.
League Format and Draft Info
To briefly try to explain the overall format, we will not be assigning players to League 1 or League 2 beforehand. Instead, there will be one large player pool going into the draft night. The captains for League 1 will then do a normal draft and fill their rosters. We anticipate League 1 to be a 5v5 with 7 teams, meaning the League 1 draft will fill to and stop at 35 players, counting the captains as well. Once the last round ends and the last player has been picked, we will move immediately into the League 2 draft. The League 1 captains will still be picking for the League 2 draft as they are making their subsequent League 2 team. The League 2 team will act as subs for their respective League 1 team, and therefore, can play for their League 1 team only. But League 2 teams will also have their own league going on as well. League 1 players are not allowed to play in League 2, even if it is their underlying League 2 team. Based on the format and likeliness of a lot of sign-ups, the League 2 teams and format could be bigger than League 1. Since there is no limit or cutoff like in the League 1 draft, we are going to make the numbers to where hopefully everyone who was not selected in the League 1 draft, gets on a team in League 2. League 2 teams will also need subs and this will be taken into account as well. Again, the specific format is really dependent on how many sign-ups there are from the beginning. However many sign-ups we get, we will try to make it work to where everyone gets slotted into a team.
As an example, if we have a total of 70 sign-ups, League 1 will have its draft first and a total of 35 players will be picked, including the captains already on the team. The remaining 35 players will then be the pool for the League 2 draft. So in this situation with 7 teams and to account for League 2 sub slots, League 2 would be a 4v4 format with each team having 1 sub, which equals the remaining 35 players. Again, League 1 has their entire League 2 team to act as their subs. However if there are more sign-ups, then more players will be left over for the League 2 draft. Thus, the team size format might change given how many people initially sign-up and how the distribution would plan out to League 1 and League 2.
League 1
League 1 will be a 5v5 format starting with a single group stage for teams, with every team playing each other once, leading into a single elimination playoff bracket to determine the winner. 4 teams will advance to playoffs. League 1 matches will be a best of 3 maps with each map being a best of 30 rounds.
League 2
League 2 will also be a 5v5 format starting with a single group stage for teams, with every team playing each other once, leading into a single elimination playoff bracket to determine the winner. 4 teams will advance to playoffs. League 2 matches will be a best of 3 maps with each map being a first to 10 rounds.
Captaincy
Captains will be selected from the players who showed interest in their sign-up application and selection will then further be based upon experience, availability, and non-toxic attitude. Although we will not be deciding the League 2 captains beforehand like League 1, the players who have expressed they would be willing to take a leadership role in League 2 in their player app will be made available to the captains. The goal is that during the League 2 draft, the League 1 captains will eventually pick a player who has stated they will help lead and captain the League 2 team they are on. This is to help assist the League 1 captains so that the hopeful League 2 captain can do their own match scheduling and help run the League 2 team. However, League 1 captains still need to assist their subsequent League 2 team and make sure matches are played each week for their League 1 and League 2 players.
