Title: 150th Cedar Creek
Post by: George385 on January 11, 2014, 07:23:09 am
Just a place to exclusively talk about the 150th Cedar Creek.

I will start off, so im looking at coming over from straya and have been offered a place as a rifleman in the 4th Texas. Even though i am under 16 and will be under 16 at the time of the event, I hold my minors permit, which will entitle me to being able to carry a musket into the field.

Flight costs for me will be a bit over 2 grand, which I hope wont be too much of a probelm. A guy over there also knows a place in Cedar Creek, VA that i can stay at for $35 per night.

What are everyone elses plans if you are going to this event?

Wait, are you sure an Australian minors permit works for the US?

one step ahead of you.

checked with the president of the battlefield foundation, Tim Stowe, and he said its up to the unit commander. He double checked with the entire CSA commander for the event. the 4th texas leader is fine with it so i am able to.

Of course you do. Sleeping a tent or a makeshift shelter while there are perfectly good (and dry) beds out there for the taking? Oh no no no!

The Dutch 'Corps de Guides' actually slept in a hotel the night before Waterloo. They re-discovered the bill a while ago in the achieves. Not sure whether it was paid.

Yes I know that...

I mean after the event. We aren't going to go to the states and spend all that money just for one event...

I plan I do a lot more stuff when I'm there ;D

so the 4th Texas, the unit i was going to fall in with for the event, has decided to not let me join their ranks at Cedar Creek... For reasons that i have no idea about.

so now im unit-less for the event  :'( :'( :'(

don't worry there are plenty of units that will be there, and that you will be able to find one.

As Munk said, there are plently of unit that dont give a flying whoop about "permits".  Cuz you know, america dont do permit. We just abide state law, and as of in reenacting, we abide the Company rules. As my company dont require paperwork of such. But we limit to 16 years old and older to be able to fire.

Surely you will find other unit like that. Especially in the Confederates, i know some units like it when young fellahs get into the hobby. Accurate portrayal of the desperate measure of the Confederate force in late war.

Post by: munky-wunky on January 13, 2014, 02:12:18 pm
Deo summed it up nicely.  "permit" what "permt" I never had to sign anything.

And yet you people still wonder why you have so many shoot-outs...

so the 4th Texas [...] has decided to not let me join their ranks at Cedar Creek... For reasons that i have no idea about.

Did they not state a single reason? That is pretty odd.

We do? Never heard a single shot fired in anger my entire life.

You can easily find another Confederate unit to fall in with. You could even walk on and just ask someone in person if your luck runs out. My unit's had people just walk up and say, "Can I fall out with you during the battle?" or "Mind if I set up camp here?" and we've always said yes.

I have heard shots being fired in anger all the time Landrik. O wait thats the Rebel Yell. Nvm.
Title: Re: 150th Cedar Creek

it was because of insurance reasons apparently. their insurance company wont cover someone under 16.

just me.

although i will have a guardian on site, of course.

on site? Like what? is he a reenactor or is it just your family members walking around?

Because i went through the process of that in earlier day of civil war reenacting. My dad had to stick around the premise, it get boring for him since your out there all day. But bless my dad, always supportive.  But because my dad isnt a reenactor, he doesnt stay around at night which why i cant camp until i was 18.
Title: Re: 150th Cedar Creek
Post by: George385 on January 14, 2014, 02:04:46 am
my dad wont be there but i will have a guardian who is on site and who is a re-enactor, but he will be in the Union encampment, I will be in the Confederate encampment.

as for the insurance, I have contacted the ALHF (Australian Living History Federation), as I am insured by them, seeing if they will insure me over in the States. if they will, then i should be allowed to join in with the 4th Texas.

But i sort of want to do a Virginia impression  :'(
Title: Re: 150th Cedar Creek
Post by: DeoVindice61 on January 14, 2014, 02:33:31 am
Actually by mid-late war. There is no uniform difference between Virginian and Texans.   Georgia Frame Buckle or Roller buckle it was, richmond type 2 jacket or communition jacket. If it was early war, the difference probably that Virginians would had a Virginian state buckle.

It's all part off a bigger plan... Soon the Dutch will be stealing bikes around the world! Nobody would expect the Netherlands of doing such a thing.

# best conspiracy theory 2k14!
Title: Re: 150th Cedar Creek
Post by: Duuring on January 16, 2014, 02:52:06 pm
The first part of the plan is to demand a financial retribution from German bikes for all the stolen bikes. With that money we will expand the army and invade Belgium. Then we shall confiscate all Belgium factories and turn them into bike-factories, as well as taking out all foreign bike factories with black-ops missions, so that the Netherlands will be the sole producer of bikes. We will get everyone on the world a bike, which has a little hidden needle in the saddle. Then, when everybody has a bike, we will start pushing a big button that will inserts a virus in the victims ass, leaving him completely stunned for at least 24 hours, which we will use to take over the world.

Now that, my friend, is a conspiracy theory. Or the real plan, depending whether you ride a bike or not,

That's, in fact, a paradox. One can not be Dutch and not own a bike. That leads to him being downgrading to the state of 'Belgian'.

i plan to do quite alot of shit while im there, but one of my main things i want to do is do halloween over there again, too old for trick or treating but ive always wanted to go to a halloween party...

and i want so spend alot of time with my best friend over there, his name was Jack Barnes, his dad, was Peter Barnes, the ex CEO and founder of Silver Wheaton, the biggest silver mining company in the world, and his mom is a plastic surgeon if i remember correctly. so my point is they are very very well off and wealthy.
