So the whole poisoning thing hasn't been revealed yet, and you guys are just happily throwing around a book spoiler?

Might be spoiler for some people
It's actually not a spoiler, Oberyn has the nickname of The Red Viper and in an earlier episode Oberyn and Tywin speak about poison ( just after Joffreys murder ) and you get to know there that Vipers are famous for the poisining of spears.

Well at least count it as a "book" spolier for those who doesn't read the books and not all people are clever enough to guess why he's earned that nickname. My guess was of he's smooth and acrobatics moves and the use of spear not that it might be poisoned.

Yes, however show watchers are afforded none of those hints. They don't even receive any background information on Dorne in general; all they know is from some snippets of conversation and vague descriptions of people who live there. Regardless, most people in the books didn't see the poison coming either, so you can't say that the show watchers were unperceptive or whatever for not picking up on it, especially because they had far fewer hints than book readers.

I should never have started watching the Series before reading the books...

Now I cant read the books without screwing the series for me. This sucks. I want to know what happens next, and it takes years to get anywhere if you are just watching the series...

I've read the books and the serie is still quite exciting. Even though I know what will happen certain things still surprise or shock me, like the Oberyn incident. It also makes me notice details I didn't see the first time something happened and from a different perspective.
