97th Regiment of Foot "Queen's Own Germans"

A painting of the Battle of Alexandria. The 97th (then called the Minorca Regiment) distinguished itself during this battle.

What is the 97th Regiment of Foot?

The 97th Regiment of Foot is a casual, North American based Line Infantry regiment for Napoleonic Wars.

History

The 97th Regiment of Foot was founded in 1798 as the Minorca Regiment. They recruited German-speaking prisoners of war on Minorca that were previously in service to the Spanish. In 1801, three years after it's formation, the Minorca Regiment was deployed to Egypt.

During the Egypt Campaign, the Minorca Regiment fought with distinction in the Battle of Alexandria. French cavalry had nearly broken the British lines, but the Minorca Regiment advanced and helped beat back the cavalry with astonishing efficiency. During there advance, a rank and file member of the Regiment, Private Antoine Lutz, left his line to retrieve the colour of the 21er Demi-Brigade Legère (21st Light Regiment). He killed the officer holding the colour and took it. Two French dragoons charged at him, but he managed to escape to his own lines with the colours. In honor of his victory the British Army awarded him with £20 every year for the rest of his life, and a painting of him holding the colour was made.

Later in 1801 the Regiment was renamed to "The Queen's Own Germans" and in 1805 it was given a number, the 97th, making it the 97th (Queen's Own Germans) Regiment of Foot. In 1810 the Regiment lost its designation as a foreign corps since foreign members no longer made up the majority of the Regiment.

In 1808 the Regiment arrived in Portugal to fight in the Peninsular Campaign. They fought in the Battle of Vimeiro as well as the Battle of Talavera, the Battle of Busaco, the Battle of Albuera and the Second Seige of Badajoz. In 1811 the Regiment was dispatched to the West Indies where they did garrison duty. In 1814 the Regiment was dispatched to Upper Canada where they fought in some of the last engagements of the War of 1812.

In 1816 the Regiment was renumbered to the 96th. In 1818 the 96th was disbanded. However, in 1824, the Regiment was reformed again as the 96th Regiment of Foot. The Regiment served garrison duty across the Empire before guarding convict ships en-route to Australia until 1843. In 1843 the Regiment was deployed to New Zealand to reinforce the British Army in the region, as Anglo-Maori relations began to deteriorate. The 96th fought in numerous engagements with the Maori during the deployment. in 1854 the Regiment partook the in the Flagstaff War, fighting in many engagements during it. in 1849 they arrived in India where they did garrison duty. They remained in India until 1854, when they returned home to the UK briefly before moving to Gibraltar where they once again did garrison service.

The 96th spent a brief time in Canada in 1862 before returning shortly to the UK and then subsequently deploying to Africa in 1863. In 1868 the Regiment returned to India where they remained until 1873.

In 1881 due to the Childers Reforms, the 96th was merged with the 63rd to form the 2nd Battalion of the Manchester Regiment.

The 10th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force

A painting of the battle of Vimy Ridge. The Canadians earned fame during the battle, including the 10th Battalion.

Description
The 10th Battalion of the CEF wishes to see the return of a lost race. The casual regiment! Events will not likely be held more than once a week, and attendance is not required. Life comes before the regiment!

The History of the Real 10th Battalion
The 10th Battalion was formed in 1914 shortly after the outbreak of the war for service on the fronlines. It was created out of two existing Canadian militia units, 103rd and 106th Regiments. The regiment arrived on the frontlines in 1915 and received their baptism of fire shortly after. Throughout the war they received the following battle honors:

Ypres, 195-1917
Gravenstafel
Saint-Julien
Festubert, 1915
Mount Sorrel
Somme, 1916
Thiepval
Ancre Heights
Arras, 1917

Hill 70
Passchendaele
Amiens
Scarpe, 1918
Drocourt-Quéant
Hindenburg Line
Canal du Nord

Throughout the war the regiment lost over 1300 men dead and over 2000 wounded. Two members of the Battalion received the Victoria Cross, along with numerous other medals to other members of the Battalion.

The Battalion headed home to Canada in 1919, and was disbanded in 1920.

The Anglo-Zulu War / Default name of the module
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:52:23 pm »
Hello!

I'm plagued with the glitch that means I can never play NW mods (thanks for making an effort to fix that, FSE ::) ). I used uniextract to get the mod, but I don't know what the default name for the folder is when someone does it through the installer. If the name isn't the same, I can't play on any servers for the mod.

This is for both Anglo-Zulu War and Blood and Iron. If I could get the names for both of those I would be grateful.

Legio X Equestris

Who are we?
Legio X Equestris, or 10th Legion Mounted in English is a Cavalry / Infantry group for the Roman Civil War mod "Bello Civili". We're North American based and we speak English.
Though age is not a requirement we are a mature group (though not excessively serious).
If Legio X Equestris seems like a group you want to be a part of, there's an application form at the bottom of the page.

The history of Legio X Equestris
Legio X Equestris was levied sometime in 61BC by Julius Caesar when he was still the governor of Hispania Ulterior. The Legion earned its nickname "Equestris" one day when Caesar met with the Germanic King Ariovistus to discuss peace. Ariovistus demanded that each leader be accompanied by a regiment of horsemen, knowing full well that Caesar's cavalry consisted almost entirely of Germanic tribesmen who weren't very enthusiastic about Rome. To combat this he had legionaries of the 10th mount and accompany him to the peace talks.

Throughout Caesar's wars of conquest Legio X becames his most trusted legion. When the Roman Civil War broke out the Legion did not hesitate to support Julius Caesar and they fought by his side bravely.

The Legion participated in the following battles and conflicts throughout its history:
The Gallic Wars
The Battle against the Nervians
The Battle of Carrhae
The Battle of Gergovia
The Battle of Ilerda
The Battle of Dyrrhachium
The Battle of Pharsalus
The Battle of Munda
The Battle of Actium

Historical Discussion / Land-Based Marines

Land-based marine units were not uncommon, but I'm curious as to whether they would simply be regular Line Infantry or would they have been a bit more like Light Infantry?

The Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment

Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment reenactors wearing the 1795 issue uniform.

Who are we?
The Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment is a group for Mount & Blade Warband: Napoleonic Wars set in a historically conscious but casual environment for its players. If you enjoy the game, and you like to play with other players then the Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment is the right place for you!

History of the real Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment
The Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment was formed in 1795. During this time the French Revolution had plunged Europe into complete chaos and Britain needed more soldiers to defend British North America (Canada).

The regiment was stationed in Halifax (Britain's primary military base in the region) from 1800 until 1802, when the Treaty of Amiens was signed and peace was made. It was only until 1803 that war broke out again and the Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment was formed for a second time to defend Britain's colonies in Canada.

By 1805 the regiment had reached its full strength of 683 men. They were then garrisoned in Fort Anne, Nova Scotia until 1806 when they were transferred to Halifax. After spending a year in Halifax the regiment was again transferred, this time to Quebec (or Lower Canada).

Shortly before the War of 1812 broke out, half the regiment was converted to Marines to serve in the Provincial Navy on the Great Lakes.

In 1812, when the War of 1812 broke out, the flank companies of the land-based portion were sent to Kingston.

Shortly after the war was declared, a small detachment of the sea-based portion of the Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment found itself participating in the Siege of Detroit. The famous General Isaac Brock awarded them a special commendation.

By the beginning of 1813 the regiment was scattered everywhere. The largest portion of the regiment was stationed in Fort George, where they participated in defending the fort against an American siege in May of 1813.

Also in 1813, one of the sea-based portions of the regiment fought in the Battle of Lake Eerie. One of the largest naval engagements on the Great Lakes, and the War of 1812.

In 1814 a detachment of the regiment was stationed at the British outpost of "Michilimackinac". The regiment participated in the outpost's defense when it was attacked by the Americans. The Royal Newfoundland Fencibles even managed to get into 4 rowboats and capture 2 American vessels; the Tigress and the Scorpion during a dangerous night attack.

In June of 1814 the regiment was sent back to its headquarters, Saint John's, Newfoundland. The regiment was disbanded only a few weeks later.

The Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment was disbanded in 1814, but it was later revived in the British Army as the Royal Newfoundland Regiment which fought with distinction in the 1st World War and is still an active regiment in the Canadian military to this day.

Community / The United Community Coalition (UCC) -Idea-
« on: June 29, 2013, 12:47:48 pm »
After reading peoples thoughts in the "Low Server Populations" thread I came up with a great idea. Why don't we make a group of community members who's goal is to promote and unite the community?

So here's the scoop. We go one project at a time, and make promotional media to let the world know about the miracle that is Mount and Blade Warband: Napoleonic Wars, but also to unite the community.

List of the ideas I came up with.
A miniseries produced for Youtube voice-acted by community members set entirely in NW
A series of advertisements telling the tales of NW and its community.
A regiment starter program to help smaller regiments get off their feet.
A string of UCC run and funded public servers.
A string of UCC run and funded events.
A Napoleonic Wars Podcast
A Napoleonic Wars Newspaper/Newschannel

Of course this is a very small list, but I want your ideas! This would be a community project, and I know that's exactly what we need. Every community member would be appreciated.
