I haven't played this game yet, I was looking for games where you could walk around your space craft etc and had been tossing up between X3-Rebirth, Evochron merc etc but ended up getting Rodina and came across this. Its free to download. If anyone has tried it please post feedback.

Basically you build your own space ship and fly it. It has a multiplayer focus meaning multiple players in a space craft working different systems etc.

Other Games / Rodina

Recently got Rodina. Its a space exploration game that has you controlling a space craft (which you can walk around in and even alter the interior) fly to different planets of which there are 4, 50 randomized major asteroids as well as 45,000 minor asteroids to explore/land on and pick up pieces of the story.

Its a neat little early access game that has a lot of potential and no bugs as far as I could see.

If you download the beta you can also try the new holo cockpit first person thingy which basically provides your pilot seat area with a holo screen of the outside. Leaving your space craft or walking around it and landing on planets is seamless.

Features planned (repeat planned and not implemented) include boarding enemy space craft and companions etc.

Currently on steam for 14 dollars but the game isn't finished. For the most part; you can engage in space combat and pick up bits and pieces of the story but it doesn't take long to complete the first chapter. Exploring is fun enough but the game will be more awesome once more milestones have been completed. Still a great little gem to keep an eye on.

Physics are newtonian so small warning! DO NOT PRESS OPEN ALL BAY DOORS WHILE MOVING FAST IN DEFAULT SPACECRAFT LAYOUT! I got sucked out into space the first time I did that.

Other Games / Nostalgic reflections on games past
« on: December 24, 2013, 12:25:52 pm »
I suppose this is a thread dedicated to chatting about feelings of nostalgia over old titles you might have/had, feel free to chat/discuss any older titles you remember fondly.

I stumbled across a youtube video of the Warcraft 2 soundtrack. I bought Warcraft 2 when I was traveling in France as a kid and bringing it home to play on our newly purchased windows 95. It was the first game I ever played that had a CD soundtrack and what a soundtrack. I loved the game art especially all the amazing pictures by Metzen in the manual, the game story and game world as well as the soundtrack which was awesome and the voice acting. Sadly I never quite felt the same way with Warcraft 3 and definitely lost interest in the series with the release of World of Warcraft.

I mean the soundtrack was amazing for the time:

Some of my favorites from the soundtrack:

General Discussion / Acceptable accents for BCOF
« on: November 19, 2013, 02:05:34 pm »
Was wondering if anyone with a know-how of American accents could look at this list and tell me which accents would be ok for a Civil War setting? Or just write up their own with dos and donts?

Thank you!

http://dialectblog.com/northamerican-accents/
http://robertspage.com/dialects.html

I presume for example that a New Yorker accent would be out of place as an example...

EDIT: In regards to auditions:

In my experience of doing such stuff, just don't go too extreme and you should be fine. What is your regular accent if you don't mind me asking? Mine is a very light midlands accent (English) but voice versatility usually stamps that out :)

:edit: after reading the thread I now understand you are asking generally and not for yourself :p
walk-in voice actors? Hah! Home studio for the win! :3

It will be a mixed bag of voices and it will be tough going in terms of finding the appropriate voices.

There are a few resources at our disposal in terms of advertising on professional game voice acting web sites that feature voice actors from the Call Of Duty series to newspaper advertisements if needed.

This will be our recording program in terms of side by side options:

a)  Two studios will likely be recording on a set day: One in the UK and one in either Canberra or Sydney sometime beginning of next year. I can also book another studio I am comfortable with in Canada for individual recordings as I've dealt with them before and they have been pretty good and reliable and can FTP upload me the recorded files. I would only do this if there are enough voice actors in the area.

b)  Some voice actors will have their own semi-professional recording setups at their home (one voice actor I am dealing with is in this particular category)

c) Others I may attempt field recordings with (likely with a Yeti Pro and MD-421 microphone plugged into a DR-680 provided I can update my recording equipment in time (costs a pretty a penny (likely need 700 AUS dollars before I can upgrade effectively) and I am doing so independently of FSE as a contractor).

d) In some cases people will be/have been auditioning for parts. Those that we feel don't need any supervision we will book into studios in their area (I will likely skype call them and sort out the particulars of the actual acting and get them to make some notes to take with them and will give them the voice list spreadsheet). The studio we book will need to have an engineer on site and be able to transfer recordings to us (or the individual who is doing the voice acting). This is something we did with 2 of the NW voice actors previously.  This will be a likely option for extremely good U.S. based voice actors where we would be happy to go the extra mile to get professional recordings.

In any case I thought I would mention this since anyone is free to audition. If you want to audition then PM me and I'll send you my email address. The auditions won't require any professional recording equipment and I don't mind if the samples clip but I would expect you to record yourself yelling and acting out the following (in a similar style to NW voices):

Ready, Aim, Fire, Shoulder arms. (try to sound commanding as your shouting over enemy fire to be heard by men 10-30 meters away from you)
Don't shoot (surrender scared sounding)

Are you an American Civil War Re-enactor based in Australia around the ACT? I've already contacted 2 groups in the area and thought I'd post this here. Would you be interested in helping out BCOF with a few sound recording sessions? Please PM me if this is the case with your email address and information about yourself and/or your group. I am interested in recording SFX for BCOF, I have some portable recording equipment.

These sounds may or may not be used by FSE as either actual sounds, template sounds or sounds that will fill gaps or acquire a useful purpose should features allow.

I would be interested in recording anything from:

- Musket/Rifle Firing or/and reloading Sounds.
- Walking/Running sounds in full/partial gear.
- Sounds of re-enactment items large and small etc.
- Horse riding sounds, walk, trot, canter, gallop etc.
- Cannon sounds firing or even just reloading or both.
- Voices for ambiance or even yelling.

This would be a very informal affair and one person with proper gear would be enough unless the individual would like to involve their entire group or part of it etc.

Thank you!

Media / NW trailer music(s)
« on: October 18, 2013, 07:03:37 am »
Someone asked me for these links a while back. Recently I decided to close my website but Wolfstar has kindly provided me with server space and a domain name so I've reuploaded my music there.

These are all the tracks that were produced with NW trailers in mind. Onwards to Victory was the only title used but some of you may have an interest in the other tracks.

Onwards to Victory
www.rejenorst.tk/music/otv_1.mp3  - Actual announcement trailer music
www.rejenorst.tk/music/otv_2.mp3 - Extended version of the above

Prepare For Glory
www.rejenorst.tk/music/prepare_for_glory_hq2.mp3 - Track was made for release trailer but never used.

Various other bits composed for use with Napoleonic Wars trailer(s):
www.rejenorst.tk/music/lineadvance.mp3 - The line advances (melancholy beat inspired by documentary series)
www.rejenorst.tk/music/siege1.mp3 - An attempt I wasnt happy with
www.rejenorst.tk/music/song2.mp3 - An attempt I wasnt happy with same as above without French anthem start

Think that was all afaik but if I remember any more I will post them here.

Feel free to use them for your own videos/trailers etc, if you can credit Rejenorst with the music will make me happy. Cheers.

Yep its not a game but its long enough to be its own game. Currently only the Prologue and Chapter 1 is released and that will take you more than 10 hours to complete I've heard.
