Ovie and Thornton are better than Lidstrom by a longshot, though he was probably the best if not of the best D-men of the 2000s. I think Babcock's line choices were fucked all season, but he has every right to call out Nylander. Nylander didn't play anywhere close to his contract and the media circus surrounding it wasn't worth the trouble in the end. 27 points in 54 games and 3 points in 7 playoff games at 10 million dollars against the cap this year and nearly 7 million for the next several years isn't exactly inspiring. On top of all that the contract also might but hurt the leafs in the future unless they can move Zaitsev somehow. Nylander is a good player and is definitely able to produce more in line with his contract but considering the leafs only seemed to struggle once Nylander came back it does make you think about whether they really need more offense especially with Babcock's system.

I was looking forward to seeing how far Iowa would of gotten. They surprisingly had a decent team. Probably sweet 16 potential. I think that hit was fucking perfect. Could he have played the puck and tried to prevent the goal? Sure. Did he absolutely destroy a man for making a boneheaded unnecessary play? Yes.

That picture is after initial contact. He was planted skates on the ice and shoulder to chest when he delivered the hit. If he had kept skating he would have been going thru the boards into the stands. He was gliding at top speed into the hit. It was a bang bang play. Have you looked at this free agent class? The only forwards who are close to VT are Hall and Landeskog. Hall has pretty much been confirmed to stay in Boston and I doubt Landeskog wants to go to an expansion team when he has failed to win with Colorado. The vast majority of FA forwards are either older/past their prime or not on the same level VT as a player. The only others that are even remotely close to VT are Hoffman, Saad, Tatar, and Palmieri. Palmieri is most likely staying on the island and the rest of them are an even bigger question mark than VT is. The FA market argument really only makes taking VT look better for two reasons. Number one they would have a player to build around so chasing other forward FAs forwards would be less of a guessing game and number two they could have chased Hamilton and/or Barrie to fill Dunn's role and still had money left over for forwards to sign alongside VT.Again his contract isn't large so I don't know why you keep saying that it is.
