Hi all, I don't really know if there's already a similar thread but doesn't matter

Fresh air.

Well, all of us have time to waste ( not really ) so let's use it for something constructive.
The meaning of this topic is very simple, just read the title, I hope it will come out some good new title for someone.

There are only two rules, no double posting, and one film for post.

So let's begin.

I've seen this film yesterday, very suggested for all, it's very recently but not very famous, I hope you enjoy it

What a horrible, shitty and immature thread. You're part of the reason why FSE is turning into complete utter shit. You and all the other autistic 10 year olds on here.
That's the friendliness of FSE users for you!

Wow man, if you want we can speak about the battle of Dresda of 202 years ago but I don't think we would add to much to what has already been said.

I think it's a thread to share some opinion and maybe build a debate about some theme, and it doesn't seems too autistic as idea, or at least not autistic as insulting randomly under a post.
Just relax

I watched Starship Troopers. It takes place in the future and instead of rahowa the people are fighting giant alien insects. And tbh there is no fascism in this film and neither is militarism. I mean, there are aliens throwing asteroids at their cities, they gotta do something.
It reminded me a bit of WH40k with imperial guards fighting tyranids; same replacable human soldiers, same totally useless firearms, same aliens.

Never heard anyone complain about that. But anyway generation war is great. Not as good as the pacific or band of brothers but very good all the same.

Oh yeah, Interstellar was pretty good. I appreciated the fact that it was actually based on proper science, from the Dustbowl to the blackholes/relativity and everything in between (although the extra dimensional bits were all hypothetical since there's no real way of visualising it etc, but still).

Ex Machina was also really good, and the latest Terminator wasn't too bad either.

Cross of Iron.  I've learnt not to get on the wrong side of Prussian Officers,  that natural body oils, combined with dirt, can keep you waterproof and getting a blowjob from a Russian woman during wartime is not a good idea.

If you enjoyed Interstellar I think you'll like it.
It's not related per se, but the blending of science and making you think while still being an entertaining movie with good character development make it similar enough to recommend it based on you liking Interstellar. That being said it's a really good film in it's own right, so I think everyone should watch it :3

Haven't watched a film in the last week due to being on holiday but the best film I've watched kinda recently is Johnny got his gun. Directed by Dalton Trumbo who wrote the novel on which the film is based, and that is always a good start imo.

The story follows the struggles of a world war 1 soldier who is out burying a body of an enemy soldier that is causing quite a stink, as the body is caught on some barbed wire. A Colonel orders the body to be buried, a team is sent out to bury the remains, our protagonist Joe Bonham is part of this team. As the body is buried a flare goes up and the whistle of mortars is heard and Joe takes cover in a crater.

Joe then awakens in a hospital (as far as he could tell) unable to see. He slowly discovers that he can't hear, nor see. Soon he detected that he also has an arm missing. Then two missing arms. Joe  next finds out his legs are missing too. In addition he finds that he is missing his ears, eyes, nose, mouth and jaw. So begins his struggle in trying to live whilst not really being able to live.

He is kept alive by a tube in his stomach and lungs. His only contact with humanity is through the nurses that come into his room and do nurse stuff (changing bed sheets etc) he's loosing grip on everything he knows.

I won't go into any more detail of the movie/book, but I will say it is a very harrowing experience, certainly not one for those thinking of joining the armed forces.

Overall the film isn't amazing but conveys a strong message. If you do watch the film I would highly recommend the book it's labeled as one of the most shocking anti-war novels of all time. Made a pacifist out of me for sure. Also the book is quite different from film so I really would recommend reading the book.

In my opinion yes, it's an interesting premise for a movie and leagues beyond Gravity in a story.

I recently saw Moonrise Kingdom, a movie directed by Wes Anderson. Wes Anderson is known for works such as "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" among many others. His movies all seem to have a similar feel to them, they're all a bit odd.

Moonrise Kingdom is about a young scout, who's troop is located at an island off the coast of New England during the 1960's. He runs away from his troop with a girl who he has fallen in love with. A search party is established to look for the young couple.

The movie is witty and odd, in some ways similar to Wes Anderson's other works. I enjoyed it and thought it was quite good.

I rate it ~8/10

Genre: Comedy/Drama

I watched it on popcorn time. If you plan on doing the same, I suggest watching in 1080p and not 720p, as I experienced audio issues in 720p.

If you liked it, you would probably enjoy The Grand Budapest Hotel as well. That is if you haven't seen it already. The Fantastic Mr. Fox is in a way a children's movie, but it is also somewhat enjoyable.

Yeah I've seen both of those as well, I enjoy Wes Anderson's films quite a bit, even the Mr. Fox one was great, George Clooney was a good fit for Mr. Fox.

I absolutely agree that Wes Anderson's movies are good. I can't give an opinion on Clooney in The Fantastic Mr. Fox however, as I viewed the movie in my native language rather than English.

I find it that Wes' movies have a special feel to them, kind of fairytaleish I'd say.

Free PDF of the book http://libcom.org/files/Johnny_Got_His_Gun.pdf

Or if you're lazy or don't have time then check out these quotes from the book https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/180461-johnny-got-his-gun

Wow, this seems pretty interesting, I didn't know about it.

I'll watch it ( and possibly read it if I've enought time) soon as possible!

What about Jarhead?

I've seen this film yesterday, and I think that even if it's a commercial film with high budget and all that stuff, it's very interesting to analize modern warfare, where the war moves at 80 km for second, and the infantry is not the principal strength anymore.

If you've time you should watch it, also because it's a very well done film, from the start to the end.

In case let me know what you think about this.

Watched Cross of Iron, I liked it. It dragged on a lot in the first hour and I paused and almost quit altogether... Luckily I left it on my TV and I sat back down later. I really enjoyed the second half. I'd rate it 8/10 overall. Acting was a bit underwhelming imo in some scenes but the film managed to pull through in the end. Recommended if you like classic war films.

Also, everyone should watch Come and See. Also tell Howe to fucking finish it, the lazy cunt.

saw 4 movies this week, all free thanks to based Scene Points.

The mediocrity was overwhelming.

TL;DR - Hollywood has become so obsessed with formulaic movie making and trying to please everyone that very few movies particularly excell at anything anymore.

Thought Goosebumps was gonna be horrible but nostalgiac. It was actually mediocre in a pleasantly surprising way. 5.5/10

On the other hand Spectre was very disappointingly mediocre. They captured some of the vintage Bond feel (to more extent than the first 3 with Craig) but overall it just felt flat. Went back to the soulless chase scenes that were universally panned in Quantum of Solace. Never felt compelling and just seemed stretched out. 7/10

Mockingjay Part II: Also mediocre. Some good scenes and overall slightly more engaging than Spectre. Sutherland was great as usual. RIP Hoffman. Awkward pacing and some downright bizarre cinematography. Lots of over the top acting to the point of near-comedy. Had its moments. 6.5/10

And lastly The Martian. Actually the most enjoyable of the bunch imho. Gravity level ridiculous at times but dayum the cinematography. Gorgeous visualizations of the Martian landscape abound. Genuinely funny largely thanks to Matt Damon. Good performances all around. Does drag on the slightest bit at times but theyre few and far between. 8/10, only 1 actually worth watching in theater imho (the gorgeous cinematography alone is worth it)

So what im saying is the best movie I watched this week was rewatching the Shawshank Redemption

Alexander was "meh" I found. It was pretty decent for some battle scenes but they focused way too much on Alexander's homosexuality in my opinion

I saw Das Boot/The Boat on netflix a week or so ago. It's about a German submarine crew in the later years of WW2.

The movie is, as the name implies, in German. So if you're an uncultured pig, uneducated in foreign linguistics, you'll most likely watch it with subtitles. The movie is pretty enjoyable though and I do recommend it.
