Title: Developer Blog: New Update #3
Post by: Hinkel on October 04, 2013, 11:37:30 am
Hello guys,
in this blog, we would like to post updates on our way to the next main patch.

The PATCH will feature a complete new faction, adding a new main power to the roman civil war. You will see screenshots and information in another update.
We are also working on some new stuff for the 2 roman factions, reworking textures, adding new units, weapons and more.

Reworked units

Some units will get a rework, playing around with the textures

Using some great footage of our awesome shield battles, we are currently working on a huge announcement trailer, to get some more guys into the mod.
So this is the trailer so far. The ending will be a bit different and since not that many guys are following us in the forum, feel honored to get a first look into it :)

Most of the egyptian pyramids looked that way. Everybody has another picture of egypt pyramids, cause all those tiny hundret pyramids are not well known.

Why Egypt, and not a more immediate barbaric faction? The Germans would have been great, maybe the Britons too. Egypt is good, but it's old pike tactics.

Anyway, it looks good, and I still anticipate this patch.

Because Egypt had direct involvement in the Civil war and barbarians are way overdone.

The only "direct involvement" Egypt had was when Pompey fled to Alexandria and was murdered by his bodyguard. :P

Here are some higher quality pictures of the new flora I added.
Overall, what I added are several new bushes for desert scenes, about 20 Palms, a few new plants for egypt, and a few plants, such as cattail, to fill lakes and rivers.

That looks really good, but I have a question. Are you going to add any form of dirt or erosion to it? As it is right now it looks a little too... perfect. Doesn't look like a battle will be taking place there.
Title: Re: Developer Blog: New Update #1
Post by: Willhelm on October 07, 2013, 07:36:07 pm
Don't think so, it was still fairly new at the time. 200 years old and being maintained, and the battle hasn't started yet.

Yeah but it would still show some wear, just like how on The Lincoln Memorial and other man-made monuments that still are in use today they have some dirt and stuff on them just fr the elements and smoke and stuff.
Title: Re: Developer Blog: New Update #1
Post by: Willhelm on October 08, 2013, 12:51:13 am
Yeah but it's using textures shared with most buildings which are repeated hundreds of times over the model so it would be impossible without going to great length to get a good even wear and dirt on it. Also the texture up close isn't perfectly clean. It uses the Arc texture mostly.

Looks great, hope the new faction will help liven up the game even more.

Do you think that it's possible to make pila available for pickup when you die, like cartridges for roman infantry, that and can you make javelins to be like the shovel and ramrod in NW, they auto drop even if they were not equipped. Would make it easier to scavenge through bodies.

No. Due to the changes in how warfare was conducted and advances in technology, a chariots usefuless was highly diminshed. According to an article I found about chariots in the Mediterranean and Near East, the last recorded use of chariots was in India, around 600 BCE.

Britons still used chariots though, but not in the way in which they were used in antiquity. Accoring to Caesar, the Britons would charge through a line, then once behind the enemy, the runner (chariot guard) would jump off and fight. The chariot would then fall back a distance and kind of watch what goes on....then if he sees the runner needs to get out of there, he'd pick him up and retreat, or if the runner dies then the chariot would flee.

He is carying the sarrisa with two hands, because it is too long to be used with one. The shield would be strapped on the arm. This way a man could use a much bigger spear and a shield

How do they look retarded? They look like middle eastern faces, its the skin you're looking at not the shape of the particular character. Using the B&I faces would require reshaping every helmet as we've told you before. The hair is fixed we simply used the wrong skins text by mistake. And as previously stated, we're working on new factions too, doesn't mean we cant improve the old ones.

Unfortunately, not too often. I have a harsh and critical way of saying what needs to be said. It's why I have lost many friends, and haven't gained many friends. People don't like hearing criticism. I always add my suggestion/solution when I critique, I don't just openly slander.

I somewhat see where you're coming from, but the way you worded it was unnecessarily harsh and needlessly vulgar. You could have easily criticized the faces without saying "Those look fucking retarded, sorry". That's like saying "You are literally the ugliest person on earth, NO OFFENSE" to a girl who worked for a long time on her image and probably had low self esteem.

Happy new year! We're pleased to announce the fourth faction for Bello Civili. The Barbarian faction.

While primarily Celtic in origin, we're looking into the possibility of creating "mini factions" within the Barbarian faction. This way we can include many other nationalities within the one faction (something akin to the mini-factions for the NW mod, Blood and Iron).

We're still in the planing stages on who or what will go into the new faction, as the year progresses, we'll have more information to share, so stay tuned!

Anyone interested in a Bello Civili Reloaded?! With extended features? ;)

I would start working on it, if there is a demand.

Or you could keep working on N&S which people actually play.

A reloaded Bello Civili would be really nice, what sort of things would you do to change it?

Ohh, would be bit like NaS:

Fully new models made by Docm (L'Aigle), new environment look with new shaders, fancy new scripts (2 factions per team like romans/ptolemai vs. romans/barbarians), for fans: commander battles with flags and other stuff, barbarian faction.

Something like that :)

To be honest, Bello civili is only being played by about 200 people right now and only during events, BUT

i am more than willing to help with a new update and also have some ideas in mind :)

I guarantee you the SoH (6th Inniskilling) would come back to Bello if it were reloaded, and if a new event came up on a different day.  We all miss playing but the current event doesn't work for us time wise.
