Server Rules

[1] If one - just one - of your detachment is engaged in melee, then the entire detachment is considered to be "in charge", irrespective of whether you charged or were charged.
[2] With three or fewer players left alive in a detachment, the entire detachment is considered "in charge" until they either link up with another detachment, shelter at an Art'y position, or die. Note that this means that three players in the same detachment camping at their opponent's Art'y is a perfectly valid tactic, however three random players hanging around there would be rambo.
[3] Bonuses will be disabled if the number of players on the server exceeds 80. This is to help minimise lag.
[4] If the number of players on the server exceeds 190, then stray horses will be slain automatically by the server. Again, this is to help prevent and minimise lag.
[5] The Admin has final say.
[6] The teams will be considered unbalanced if the difference between the teams is greater than one Order of Magnitude below the number of people on the Team with the fewest players, to the nearest multiple of 10.
[7] If an All Charge is called to end a round, then nobody may FiC or RiC, regardless of unit. OA is still allowed.

Welcome to the 68th's Tuesday King of the Hill event!

An explanation of what King of the Hill is:

O There is a map containing three flags.
O One flag for Team 1's spawn, one flag for Team 2's spawn, and one neutral flag in the middle.
O Each team also starts with a certain number of points (~300 initially, but read below for more details).
O The first team to reach zero points loses.
O The flags lose points equal to standard conquest rates.

[1] Every Artillery Regiment may field a single sapper per Artillery Train; sappers do not count as rankers.
[2] All Art'y Guard must spawn as the Foot Guard class for their nation; anybody breaking this rules will be slain.
[close]

General Notes
[1] The "(# absolute)" value simply means "including Officers, Musicians, Standard Bearers, and Sappers". For example, if you sign up as Rifles and bring 17, then that is allowed, so long as only 15 of them spawn as rankers. The remainder must be non-rankers.

[2] Any forts or towns in the maps will be made with balance in mind. So, if one team has control of the central flag, they will undoubtedly have an advantage, but it won't turn into a full-blown siege to try and wrestle control away. Furthermore, maps are made "cav-compatible", so cavalry regiments will still be able to sign up and enjoy the event just as much as everybody else.

Server Rules

[1] If one person in your unit is engaged in melee, then the entire unit is considered to be "in charge".
[2] With three or fewer players left alive in a unit, the entire unit is considered "in charge" until they either link up with another unit, shelter at their team's Art'y position, or die.
[3] Bonuses will be disabled if the number of players on the server exceeds 80. This is to help minimise lag.
[4] Stray horses will be slain automatically by the server. Again, this is to help prevent and minimise lag.
[5] The Admin has final say over whether rules were broken or otherwise.
[6] Even if your team has full control of the central flag, you may not spawn on it. I repeat, you may not spawn on the central flag. If you do, you will be slain immediately. The admin will have 90% of his focus on the spawn area around the central flag. Individuals who spawn repeatedly on the flag will be temp' banned.
[7] Each team will start with 300 points for the event's debut. However, if you feel the event goes too quickly or too slowly, then we're perfectly happy to change it for the future. You are the boss. But for the first event, 300 points.
[8] You may not, under any circumstances whatsoever, take over, or attempt to take over, the other team's spawn area. Everywhere else on the map is free rein, but not your opponents' spawn.
[9] You may spawn with a flag bearer, but you may do so only once per round. The flag bearer may not respawn as a flag bearer again. This is to help avoid flags clogging up the entire server, especially towards the end of rounds.

Okay, okay, so you may have many questions, but just in case you don't and merely want to know the sign-up format, here it is.

Regiments / The 68th (Durham) Regiment of Light Foot
« on: April 11, 2016, 03:24:23 pm »

History of the 68th

In September 1808 the 68th - 436 rank and file - were ordered to convert to Light Infantry, after the fashion of the 43rd and 52nd. Marched to Brabourne Lees, Ashford, Kent to train with the 85th under the master of light infantry training himself, Lt. Col. Franz Von Rothenburg!

Why were they chosen?

Probably because of the simple reason that over the previous 2 years the ranks had slowly been filled by new recruits and Militia Volunteers (168 from the Durham Militia).
It seems logical to assume that it was easier to train new recruits as Light Infantry than to attempt the impossible task of retraining established Line Battalions full of long-service veterans of Foot.
July 1809 embarked on the Walcheren Expedition - 733 strong, and fought at Flushing for the first time as Light Infantry. Once again the 68th performed well but soon, along with all the other Regiments, became infected with the 'Walcheren Fever' (malaria). In 1810 the remnants returned to Brabourne Lees, 89 rank and file (Offical 'death to fever' 384).

The Regiment's In-Game History

We were originally created on Saturday 20th December 2014 as a Light Regiment by myself, Norwegian, and Gurrlo, who had just seen the disbanding of our previous regiment, Kemsyt's 9th EN. We gathered up the "survivors" and founded the 68th. It was the first regiment we'd led, but despite this initial degree of inexperience, the 68th quickly expanded to include an Artillery detachment, and thanks to an impressive campaign by two of our most treasured members (Sam and Jackson, both sadly no longer with us), we soon after created a Rifle detachment, too.

Gradually, we grew and expanded, reaching our peak in the Summer of 2015, where we had enough members to form a Hussars detachment and had 40-per-event. Unfortunately, due to several factors, we decreased our attendance, and by November we were forced to disband both the Artillery and the Hussars, triggered by a splinter regiment (the 1stCSG) leaving the 68th. I came close to disbanding the 68th, but a former Officer, current Maj, and ever-wonderful NotMoving convinced me to carry on. Re-encouraged, the 68th grew again, albeit more slowly, but the reduced growth rate helped solidify "68th (Durham) 2.0", and with a fresh Officer corps, we gave the 68th a shining coat of paint.

(Then Maj) Jeff flirted with a Line detachment, which lasted a stunning eight days, however (luckily) Maj Mowie's idea of a new Artillery detachment stuck very well. Soon after, the 68th successfully negotiated the merging of the Foot Guard regiment the 1stCSG into its ranks. This gave us a reasonable member and attendance boost, and in the space of one week, the 68th had broken its record for attendance (43 in one event - for a regiment without a line detachment, that's pretty damn high!), and started a fourth detachment, the 68th Huss.

While the Hussars have struggled a little, not aided by Crt. Norwegian's untimely holidays, they have since managed to recover to acceptable levels, and the 68th successfully merged the 51st Rifles detachment into our ranks. The huge boost to attendance has made the 68th Rifles the biggest detachment by a good few players, and twice a week now we come very close to breaking the legendary 40-man barrier.

Currently, the 68th is growing slowly, and reforming some of our more redundant and outdated systems, which are a testament to the fledgling 68th 19 months ago.

Mysty's In-Game History

I joined the community of NW during the Easter period of 2014. My first regiment was the then-independent 95th "The Rifles" Regiment, which was (and still is) run by Kilidath, although it has since joined the 1st Brigade. I never made it past Recruit and found the sheer size of the 95th a bit overwhelming for me, so I left within two weeks. Had I stayed, who knows where'd I be now?

I was recruited into the Nr47, run by Col. Kurt, and joined the NA-based Lights detachment. So started my long-time addiction to Light Infantry of NW. I was promoted from Rekrut (Recruit) to Leutnant (2nd Lieutenant) on my second day, because the second in command of the Lights had to leave for college and Damien, my CO, asked "So...who wants to be my second?". It was (of course) a pure fluke, but it turned out to be ridiculously lucky, because it got the attention of an NCO named Tilko in the line detachment of the Nr47. The Nr47 would disband the following week, because Col. Kurt needed to depart for university, but Tilko decided to try his hand at running a regiment and invited me to be his second. I agreed, and so I became LtCol Myst of the 11th Regiment of Foot.

We were a small line, mainly consisting of community friends and never played seriously, signing up to events as we wanted to - lines are always in demand! The 11th ran from May to November 2014, and I met a certain Irishman there called Sam, who would stay one of my closest friends for over a year afterwards. Eventually, Tilko converted the 11th into a PW clan called "The Baratheons", but I hated PW at the time, and so left along with three friends.

Over the course of the 11th, I had become friends with Maj Jezza of the 9th EN, and when he'd heard that the 11th had disbanded, he invited me to form the Lights detachment in his regiment. I agreed, eager to get back into NW after a few horrible weeks of PW, and became Capt Myst, CO of the 9thEN's Lights. It was the first time I'd been first in command of something, and thus had a lot to prove to my Colonel, Kemsyt. I hope I succeeded in this regard, because I grew the 9thEN Lights from four to thirteen active members over the course of my time in the regiment.

The 9thEN disbanded in mid December, and one day later, Captain Mysty, Lieutenant Norwegian, and Ensign Gurrlo started the 68th. I've been serving as its CO ever since.

As of 27/06/16

General Notes
[1] Yes, skirms can have sappers in this linebattle. A real "HAS SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR?!" moment, I know, but please bear with me. We believe that this approach could potentially render linebattles a lot more tactical and challenging for both sides. Skirms are so often rendered totally dependent on their lines, and while this does come with the title to some degree, we think that giving skirms this extra degree of flexibility will help team durability immensely. Keep in mind that both sides can use this.

[2] The "(# absolute)" value simply means "including Officers, Musicians, Standard Bearers, and Sappers". For example, if you sign up as Rifles and bring 17, then that is allowed, so long as only 15 of them spawn as rankers. The remainder must be non-rankers.

[3] If an All Charge is called to end a round, then nobody may FiC or RiC, regardless of unit. OA is still allowed.

If you're finished reading [6] over and over again, then let me help: Take the Team with the fewest players (say it's 54 players); round it to the nearest multiple of 10 (i.e. 50); divide it by 10 (i.e. 5), and check the difference between the teams. If that difference (say it's a 4-player difference) is lower than or equal to your number, then the teams will be considered balanced by the admin. If the teams are unbalanced, then the admin will do his or her best to fix it, but, as is the terrible truth, balance cannot always be perfect.
