71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot
VAE VICTIS

71st Website

INTRODUCTION

The 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot is a Mount & Blade: Napoleonic Wars regiment dedicated to creating lasting friendships, enjoying weekly events, and accurately representing military structure, command, and tactics -- all the while making sure our members are disciplined and able to follow orders to-the-letter. We have an active roster of approximately 60 men, around 100 in total. Previously known as the Infanterie Regiment Nr. 62, we've set out with the British faction to continue to expand in the NW community. With our easy to get along with members and can-do attitude, the 71st aspires to enjoy the game for what it truly is.

HISTORY

The 71st was originally formed from the 2nd Battalion of the 32nd Regiment of Foot in 1758.  Shortly after their formation the 71st took part in a raid on the French coast at Cherbourg during the Seven Years' War. After smashing the fort and docks at Cherbourg, the 71st boarded a ship and headed back to England. Later on it would take part in a similar raid on Belleisle in 1761. In 1763 the regiment became invalid and was disbanded in 1768.

MacLeod's Highlanders

The MacLeod's Highlanders were raised from an independent Highland regiment by John Mackenzie, Lord MacLeod, son of the Earl of Cromartie, in 1777 as the 73rd (Highland) Regiment of Foot (MacLeod's Highlanders). Lord MacLeod was the first commander of the regiment, adopting the “Macleod of Harris tartan” that was originally a Mackenzie tartan. The 1st battalion served in the East India Campaign. Between 1778 and 1786 the 1st/73rd Highlanders saw service in Gambia in West Africa and in the Mysore War in India where the battalion was completely destroyed during the Battle of Conjeveram on 10 September 1780. A 2nd Battalion was raised in 1778, serving from 1780 in Gibraltar where they took part in the siege of the fortress before disbanding in 1786 after they were absorbed into the 1st Battalion in 1783. In 1786 the regiment was redesignated as the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot (MacLeod's Highlanders).

Re-designation

After being redesignated the 71st Highlanders carried on fighting in India where they fought in the Battle of Pondicherry in 1793 and at Ceylon in 1795. In 1798 after a number of years on active service the effective troops left in the regiment were transferred to the 74th Regiment of Foot and the remainder returned to Scotland by 1802. A 2nd Battalion was formed in 1804. Over the next few years the regiment changed its name a number of times before becoming the 71st (Glasgow Highland Light Infantry) in 1809 and finally 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry). In order to become Light Infantry the regiment changed the way it trained, marched and fought.

1st Battalion, 71st Highlanders

The 1st Battalion left Britain for the Cape of Good Hope in 1806 where they were involved in minor actions. In June 1806 they were shipped to South America where they were involved in the disastrous expedition against Buenos Aires by Sir Home Popham. The city was actually captured but later the inhabitants rose against the small British force and took them prisoner. The 1st/71st was one of the battalions captured. Two battalion flags or Regimental Colours were also captured. On the 21st. of April 1808 the regiment received new colours instead of those they had surrendered at Buenos Aires. The colours were presented by General Floyd, a veteran officer. After reforming the battalion they sailed in 1808 for Portugal where they took part in General Moore's advance into Spain and disastrous retreat out of Spain which ended with Moore's victory at Corunna. Upon leaving Spain the battalion was sent in 1809 on the Walcheren Campaign. In 1810 the battalion was back in Iberia. They fought all the way through the Peninsular War, in Vitoria battle they were to hold the extreme right of the line and where ambushed at the anfitheatre and masacred by two french regiments, 40 surrendered and arround 200 where dead or wounded. Also were at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 as part of the 3rd Brigade in Maj.General Sir Henry Clinton's 2nd Division. The 1st/71st lost 16 officers and 171 men killed and wounded at Waterloo.

The 71st will be hosting a weekly 2v2 on Thursdays.  We are using a standard set of NANWL rules with slight modifications to accommodate a 2 vs 2.  The hope would be that the same 4 regiments come every week and we will base teams off of attendance.

Rules:
1) All NANWL Rules apply unless stated otherwise below
2) Regiments will not be forced to balance, within reason.
3) We will play a total of 6 rounds, switching sides after 3.
4) The NANWL ban list/game suspensions will not apply.

Introduction

After seeing the Napoleonic Wars League successfully established in the European community we thought it is about time to bring some life and action into the North American community too. The North Amercian Napoleonic Wars League (NANWL) has the exact same principles and - mostly - the same rules as the European one. Contrary to the European league, we know that less regiments will probably be interested so we will wait to see how many regiments SIGN UP and how many leagues we can make.
If other regiments would like TO SIGN UP while the league is already running, feel free to do so. You will be put on a wait list and we will either stick you in if possible or wait until the next season and try to get all the wait listed regiments in by either forming another league or simply adding them to the existing league.
The regiment placed first in the top league will be crowned champion of North America.
Please do not mistake this for a show off competition though. The main focus is on having fun while being competitive and seeing where your regiments is compared to others. If any sign of disrespect is shown you might be booted from the league. Remember, this is only a game and even if one regiment is better at killing off virtual opponents than another, it is not something the regiment should brag about. Be proud but not condescending!

Rules

A win counts as 3 points
A draw counts as 1 point
A loss counts as 0 points

1. - No shooting while charging or out of formation! That means your line has to be stationary! Also, no reloading whilst you are engaged in melee! Officers are allowed to fire their pistols in the charge, however no ranker can fire a pistol in the charge! Officers cannot reload during the charge or in melee though either!
2. - Only 1 line per regiment (it can be single, double, triple etc file). If a line is down to 2 people, the line has to charge!
3. - Lines must act as one! If one man in your line is engaged in melee, the rest have to engage in melee too! This means, you cannot split off some men to stall the enemy line in melee and have the rest form up, waiting for those who stalled to die in melee, so that the lined up rest can shoot!
4. - No bonuses activated
5. - No musicians or ensigns
6. - Only 2 officers allowed! Officers MUST choose the Officer class!
7. - No officer targeting! (Officers charging are fair game!) If a regiment chooses to use 2 officers, shooting either is officer aim! Shooting an officer can result in anything from a warning or if vital to the round, to a repetition of the round. If officers are targeted continuously, even after warning, you can be kicked from the event. If the line is stationary and the officer moves behind or in front of his line, it is his own fault. Officers should also try to move off to the side of their line, leaving a gap to their line thus minimizing the chance of them getting shot, however if they stay in the line it is still officer aiming. Don't aim for the front of the line, simple as! If the officer is shot and the round is not reset immediately but a ranker takes over acting as an officer, you cannot shoot him either. That new officer is identifiable by being the person in the front of the line.
8. - Addressing gaps while in a fire exchange is not mandatory. However when you line up at first, you cannot have ANY spacing! Officers are allowed to move around the line freely and can stand next to the line or behind, however can not move forward on their own to get closer for shooting.
9. - 10 rounds that have to be played, after 5 rounds spawn swap
10. - Both leaders have to agree on a map
11. - The playable maps are only: Random Medium Plains, Desert, Steppe, and Snow. If both regiments agree, custom maps can be used aswell.
12. - The number of players per team is limited from 10 minimum to an open maximum (If a regiment fails to bring the minimum, they will have to play as if they had 10 or forfeit the match. Hence the opposing regiment could bring 11)
13. - The difference in numbers may only be 1 man!
14. - The home team (Team on the left) may choose its faction first
15. - The battles will take place on the home team's server. Naturally if both leaders agree on playing on the away team's server, that is allowed.
16. - Only line units are allowed; no light infantry, guard infantry, marine units, militia, or skirmishers.
17. - The battles must be fought before a certain deadline, the deadline will not be extended unless under special circumstances. Before the deadline also means, that if you are uncertain about being able to play a match during its designated week, you can play that match a week or weeks in advance.
18. - If one regiment does not appear on time (15 minutes grace period, then the battle must start), the opponent will get a 10-0 win
19. - If both teams do not appear, they will get a 0-0 loss (no points)
20. - Invites are NOT allowed; if we find out that a regiment played with invites, we will remove a win and 3 points and the opposing regiment, if it lost, will be given the win
21. - The results of a match will be posted here, take screenshots to be sure your oponent will not try to cheat you out of your victory
22. - If a regiment has something to complain about because the opponent did not follow the rules, it has to prove it (video or screenshot); there might not be referees!
23. - If the accusations are correct the organizers will decide how harsh to punish them, which can range from a warning to a kick!
24. - If a regiment complains repeatedly and then does not turn up any evidence or this evidence turns out to be false, they will be subject to the same procedure!
25. - Be respectful and use common knowledge and courtesy. Insulting or any other sort of verbal abuse will be punished!
26. - Camping is naturally allowed, but if rounds take too long and the camping becomes excessive, you will be forced to engage! Excessive camping is considered by us to be holding one position (hill for instance) for roughly 3 minutes! Forcing to engage means, you have to leave your position and get close to your enemy (close volleys or melee). You are NOT allowed to return to that position again that round!
27. - If regiments are tied in points, the regiment having a better "rounds lost and won" ratio, will receive the higher place in the league. (For instance: Regiment 1 has 3 points and Regiment 2 has 3 points too! Regiment 1 has a ratio of 9 rounds won, 1 lost and Regiment 2 has a ratio of 8 rounds won and 1 lost. Regiment 1 will then receive the higher place, since they have +8, wheras Regiment 2 has +6! If the ratio is equal too, the direct comparison will be drawn, meaning the linebattle the regiments had against each other will be looked at. The winner of that, will be placed higher. If that too was a draw, there will be a another match between the two regiments in order to determine who will be placed higher. That match cannot end in a draw! If it is 5-5 at the end of 10 rounds, one last round will be played!
28. - Referees are to be treated with respect! Their decisions count and are supposed to be accepted! If someone is a referee, that means he has earned the trust of the organizers and should not be treated any different than the organizer. If you do have a complaint about a decision a referee made or the referee himself, let the organizers know via steam or this thread and PROVIDE evidence! If you fail to comply with a referee you will be punished according to the violation (warning up to booting from competition)! So accept the referee's decisions, no matter if he is abusing and AFTER the linebattle you can complain to the organizers!
29. - Referees can enact rules or punishments during the linebattle that are not mentioned on this thread. If you feel the rules were unjust or simply not to your liking, complain on this thread and provide evidence. Do not simply ignore and undermine the referee's authority, which would mean you are breaking rules (Rule 27). Instead make a case after the linebattle!
30. - Having members that are in 2 or more regiments is against the rules! Those people who are in multiple regiments will be banned and if the regiments knowingly accepted someone from another regiment just so as to play the person, they can be banned too! European and Australian players are allowed however, seeing as they are in a seperate community! Being in multiple regimental steam groups is considered double-reging! You can remain in regimental steam groups of regiments that are inactive/disbanded, but not in active ones!
31. - You are not allowed to have a player spawn in only to give your officer a musket and then switch to spectator.  This gives an even more unfair advantage to the larger regiment.

Battle Times

The battles themselves will be fought on days arranged by the two leaders of the opposing regiments. They will receive a deadline and have to fight before it or it will be counted as a 0-0 loss for both. Deadlines will not be extended! Remember, you play on the HOME SIDES server or NA NWL Official Server (If it is up)!

SIGN UPS

For those who played the previous season you do not have to sign-up again nor do anything else. You will be counted in for the next season. If you do not wish to participate in the next season though, then please make sure to tell the organizers!

The sign-ups are closed, and the tournament itself starts August 16th, 2015.
Once sign ups are closed you may still sign up but may not receive a slot in the league until the next season!

You will receive an invite to the steam group, be sure to accept it!

The 71st Highlanders are now hosting a Tuesday Line Only 3v3!  The rules of the LB are modified NANWL rules to make them easy to follow and understand.  This line battle will take place every Tuesday @8pm EST.  The idea of the LB is that the same 6 regiments attend weekly, we will assign teams based off of attendance so everyone gets to play. We hope that everyone gets good teamwork practice and has loads of fun.  We will do our very best to ensure this line battle is a great experience.  It also makes great practice for the NWL, seeing as many of the rules are the same.

Rules

1. - No shooting while charging or out of formation! That means your line has to be stationary! Also no reloading whilst you are engaged in melee! Officers are allowed to fire their pistols in the charge, however no ranker can fire a pistol in the charge! Officers cannot reload during the charge or in melee though either!
2. - Only 1 line per regiment (it can be single, double, triple etc file), if BOTH regiments have 30 or more players they are allowed to split their line into 2; However, this is not mandatory, so one regiment can split into 2 even if the other decides to keep 1 line! If one line is reduced to below 4 people, they have to merge with the other line!
(Officers charging are fair game!) Shooting an officer can result in anything from a warning or if vital to the round, to a repetition of the round. If officers are targeted continuously, even after warning, you can be kicked from the event. If the line is stationary and the officer moves behind or in front of his line, it is his own fault. Officers should also try to move off to the side of their line leaving a gap to their line thus minimizing the chance of them getting shot, however if they stay in the line it is still Officer aiming. Don't aim for the front of the line, simple as! If the Officer is shot and the round is not reset immediately but another Officer takes over, you cannot shoot him either.
10. - The playable maps are only: Random Medium Plains, Desert, Steppe, and Snow
11. - The battles will take place on the 71st_Official/71st_Official_2 Server.
12. - Only line units are allowed ; no light infantry, guard infantry, marine units, militia, or skirmishers.
13. - Be respectful and use common knowledge and courtesy. Insulting or any other sort of verbal abuse will be punished!
14. - Camping is naturally allowed, but if rounds take too long and the camping becomes excessive, you will be forced to engage! Excessive camping is considered by us to be holding one position (hill for instance) for roughly 5 minutes! Forcing to engage means, you have to leave your position and get close to your enemy (close volleys or melee). You are NOT allowed to return to that position again that round!
15. - In accordance with NANWL Rules, you may NOT play anyone that is not part of your regiment.  This means no mercs or vols, ect.

Regiments / The Continental Army (Accepting Active NA Regiments)
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:36:16 am »

Brief Summary
The Continental Army is a active NA based army made up of independent regiments that have allied themselves with one another.  We have no true leader, instead we rely on a council of officers from every regiment in the army to make decisions and maintain the army.  The regiments of CA share a teamspeak together as well as hosting our Tuesday/Friday Line Battles.  We strive to maintain a fun gaming environment for everyone, including non CA members.

How to Join

We accept most NA active regiments that wish to join, however if please fill out the application found at the bottom of this page, and post on this thread.  A CA admin will review it ASAP and get back to you.  You do not need to be a huge regiment to enlist in the army, all you need to have is a willingness to grow.

Regiments / Union Gaming
« on: September 07, 2013, 06:27:57 am »

We are Union Gaming! We are a community that found its rise through Napoleonic Wars and we support the NW community. We also are a general gaming community for anyone that wants to join UG as a base to branch out into other games.  We plan to maintain a strong footing in the NW community but also expanding our horizons into other communities and games in general.  Our community currently supports Napoleonic War regiments as well as groups in other games.  We do host events on both Tuesdays and Friday events for the North American NW community.  We strive to be a respectable, cohesive and generally fun group of people to be a part of.

The Union Gaming community was, at it's origins created by the 71st and 57e.  We strive to be as inclusive in decision making as possible, our goal is to a have a democratic based system.  We will have Tuesday/Friday events on a weekly basis hosted on a 200 slot server hosted in the Central United States.  We play NW with one another as well as many other games and our long-term goal is to have inter-regimental groups and clans in other games.  We are striving to become a very strong and close group in the coming months

If there is a NW regiment interested in joining UG, the process is very simple.  First off, you will need to completely fill out the application below, making sure that you are as honest as possible on all of the questions.  All applications for the UG, will be posted on this thread and the UG admins will try our best to get back to you ASAP.  To join you don't need to be the best or biggest, simply be a respectable bunch of people with a common goal and a willingness to grow.

Official Servers Bans & Unbans / Auto-Block Hacker (NA)
« on: May 01, 2013, 03:49:45 am »
I just recently kicked someone in my reg for clearly using auto-block hack.
________________________________________________________________

He would block 3 attacks at the same time.  He is actually terrible at warband as chambers and holds absolutely destroyed him.

To test this we went into TDM and went on the same team, the auto-block hack does not work.  He was absolute trash and also there was a lot of other evidence.
 _______________________________________________________________

He was in my reg until we found out:

NEC_71st_Rct_Knik

His name will probally by knik as I have seen him in many other regiments.

What can be done about this?

Events: EU / NEC Sunday Showdown Event (Siege) ~Cancelled~
« on: April 07, 2013, 09:17:10 am »

On top of our normal Tuesday and Friday Line Battles, we are opening our very own Sunday Event.  We will be hosting the event on our servers sponsored by www.bluefangsolutions.com, our amazing partner.  We hope to continue to host fun and reliable events as we have for months now, even in these new game-modes.  We will be hosting this event primarily for the North American section of the Napoleonic Wars, however we will accept any region based regiment.

Weekly Procedure

The event will normally be Siege, sometimes conquest (will be informed about 2 weeks in advance).

The event will begin at 6pm Eastern Standard Time, and the first event will be on 4/14/13.

The event will be hosted weekly on NW_NEC_Private (200 Slots) allowing for a good, lag free event.

To retrieve the password for that particular Sunday, come into this Teamspeak 3: nec.bluefang.net and look for the channel labeled "NEC_Sunday_Showdown".  Not only will a list of regiments attending be there, but also the server password for that day.

If you would like to sign up for any non-Line Infantry class for a night, Private Message me on this forum requesting the assignment using the application at the bottom of the page.

Regiments / 71st Highland Regiment of Foot
