so apparently in NSW, Australia, you dont need a permit/licence to fire a pre 1900 firearm. this is according to a sutler over here in AU.

However, I contacted the firearms registry about that exact issue and they said to fire one you do need a licence/permit.

Two experts and the wrong answer could lead to me going to jail  :-\

this is a mind f*ck for me at the moment...

In QLD u can own imitations of pre-1900 without liscence (still cant fire), illegal in ALL other states

Yes u need to send in a permit 2-3 weeks in advance, the Firearms Registry will then give u a form which allows u to purchase a firearm, but u must be over 18 to do so

At present, in NSW (& some other states) antique flintlock muzzle-loading guns made before 1900ad do not require a licence, registration, or a permit to purchase. But replicas of thes same guns DO require a gun licence, registration & a permit to purchase.
These muzzle-loading guns are classed in the same catagory as breech-loading firearms!

direct from the NSW police Firearms Registry on Antique Firearms-

What about an imitation of an antique firearm?

An exemption from the requirement to obtain a permit exists for possession or use of an imitation of an antique
firearm, but not an imitation antique revolver - see section 6A of the
Firearms Act 1996
and clause 116 of the
Firearms Regulation 2006

Read it , doesnt say that u dont need a liscene,"requirement to obtain a permit" "a permit" is different, as u need to have a permit to purchase rifles+liscence etc, u don't need a permit perhaps, but i had too, and everyone else i know. So u still need to be liscenced, therefore over the age of 18. We have 2 police officers in my group and a member of the firearms registry.

in either case i can garantee u that to fire at events u must have a licence and registered firearm

Annoying, true, but they aren't ever gonna change so no point complaining about it. And in hindsight, the way the youth act today it is unfortunately necessary/.

u wouldnt be able to order it, as it goes through a firearms dealer (must be over 18), u need a licence and im 99% sure u will need a permit

It shoots a bullet so must be registered
