Title: Favourite Historical Alliance
Post by: louis on July 18, 2015, 02:58:07 pm
What's your favourite historical alliance? I found the Anglo-Portuguese very interesting as it was formed in 1386 and is still active!

I've always loved to learn about the Allies and Axis alliances during World War Two. So much intrigue, as countries on the other side of the world which wouldn't have dreamt of joining in were pulled into combat.

US and the USSR, an alliance that defeated the nazis and then immediately went polar. I find it interesting that the nation that was our biggest enemy for the longest time and could have led to the destruction of the entire planet (same goes for the US) was once our ally.

I was just naming the 4 main important ones, but yes those states and Netherlands were including.

Russia is sorta not that important in 1815. Their troops, while numerous, did not see any actual fighting.

Though of course, having 200.000+ Ruskis at your back does help the morale.

yeah pretty impressive how the Weltjudentum took over communism (jewish bolshevism), capitalism (Finanzjudentum) - together with the capitalism goes the takeover of the whole USA - , the hobos in Germany who came from east europe and - hardly known by anyone - the political christianity  and connected all those different and partly conflicting currents  just to ruin the last bit of holy Germania in 1920's. Well, we did recognize it! But when we tried to protect ourselves the jews did instigate WW2 and at the end they were successful with their plan to ruin the Reich.

Despite its policy of neutrality, Ireland has supplied the NATO-led ISAF mission in the 2001–present Afghanistan War with a running total of 120 Irish troops as trainers. The troops are provided under United Nations mandate. As at 8 June 2011, there were seven personnel there. :c we did gud

I find the Japanese-American Alliance that has been going on since the end of World War 2. America has even made written conformation that it will side with Japan should war between Japan and China break out. Love how the US manages to make allies out of past enemies in many occasions. The First Coalition, I just find it interesting how all of Europe's monarchies were so scared of a giant republic and how the lower classes were ruling it, that they essentially started 26 years of total war, 1789 - 1815. :P

You are wrong CP would lose, Italy would fall in a month to French army. There would be again Italian front (French (with "New Italy" support) vs Austro-Hungary). I did some studying on Italian front and Italian army was trash, they even lost 12th battle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Caporetto) in Slovenian it's called Miracle at Caporetto and front was moved to Piava in 1917.

Serbs actually did win all battles against Austro-Hungary until Bolgaria invaded Serbia as well. Austrians were autistic, only lasted in war because of other nations.

Even if I don't like the side change, the one with austria and germany it was a defensive alliance, so Italy didn't have to follow them on war, in plus austria was the natural historical enemy of Italy (for the 3 battles of indipendence). Austria had defensive forts on the alps that weren't built in few days, but a lot before, because also them knew that the alliance was weak (for the reasons I've quoted before). Last Austria refused to offer to Italy some of their aim of the war on the table of the treaties before the war (and even Germany suggested them to do it), but they refused, while England and France offered the cities "Irridente", the ones that left for the complete unification of the italian state (propaganda pro-war was based on these topics).

Even if it's impossible to say, I'd say that the war between france and Italy would have been solved by the germans, because with the pression of the italian army on the alps, the french army should have split their forces, so Germany would have easily break into the french defensive line. Probably on the alps there would have been another trench war very static, because even as Carl Von Clausewitz wrote: “Attacking France from the Alps is just like try to lift a rifle by grabbing it from the tip of its bayonet".

Russians? Russian army never even saw Serbian army. Serbia clearly won all 1v1 battles against Austria pure 1v1 with Austria having better weapons and more soldiers.
