I have, but that's not the point.

I meant that in comparison, getting together a full ACW kit is cheaper and easier then a Napoleonic uniform...Plus, you guys can have 10 different regiments stand next to eachother, all looking alike, to make things appear more realistic. Here...Well, let me show you this.

That's really the best we can do. Which, granted, looks cool, but I am rather jealous of your nice-looking Union lines. Then, we have proper marching. Hehehe!  ;D

Love how the French really jump over the wall and get pushed back. Also, don't forget to go to 4:40 to hear the Dutch warcry.

That's LARP, Reenacting and LARP are different, even though reenacting is a type of LARP.

Cheaper? I disagree, if the civil war kits are cheap then they'r full of crap quality. Good Quality ACW kit can reach up over thousands. For a Sack Coat, it can price from 160 to 300 or 400. Then we have the pant, Leather kit, the tents, personal item, knapsack, all that pricey stuff. It depend on the quality my good sir.

Taken, but even then, Union (and CSA) regiments have the advantage of being able to blob together.

Taken, but even then, Union (and CSA) regiments have the advantage of being able to blob together.

This is because we all don't cling to who our units are named after. The majority of union reenactos have a very versatile uniform. however, there are occasions where entire battalions will buy essentially a whole new uniform for one event. Like 1st manassas. The battalion portraying the 69th had everyone buy a red issue shirt and a havelock. The officers all had new uniforms as well as the ncos.(red accents, shoulder boards, nco stripes, etc...) So I wouldn't say the reason we are able t o "blob" together is because the era is easier... (we probably have less options but that doesn't make it easy. its not hard to do either. just a bit of research and effort)

Of course I don't know how Napoleonic reenactments work so it may be a bit different.

That's an exception. It's sheer impossible for Napoleonics. Regiments portray a certain era, and do not change their uniform for one specific battle. Because, simple, it would take an entire new uniform which is only useable in THAT battle, which might be a bit too costy. For example, A French soldier of the line should have, to portray 1800-1815, three different shako's, a bicorn, two forage caps,   three or even four different uniform jackets, different plates for cartridge boxes, three kind of trousers. Besides the shirts, boots, gaiters, backpack, etc.

The only reason I'm argueing is that you act as if Napoleonic reenacting is hundreds of times harder thancivil war. While I will admit that having to buy a million different parts for your uniform is probably harder, its not like civil war reenactors don't have to deal with that. There's tons of gear out there thats only appropriate for certain time periods. (I will also admit that that picture you posted isn't that bad. I have seen far worse battalions than that but they were probably farbs so it doesn't really count)

Why do you say Napoleonic reenqctors can march better? what makes them so special?

And as a final note, i will add that i have seen units change from normal infantry into zouaves And back over the course of one event. But that is rare.

I'm not saying it's a million times harder. But, it is harder and basicly impossible. Then, the level of historical authentic (In ACW re-enactment) is higher then I imagined. And in fact, higher then Napoleonics.

I mean that I've seen dozens of videos of ACW re-enactors marching completely out of step, while we easily train 3 hours a day at that on an event.

So, let me re-phrase it: Having a (battalion-sized) line of ACW re-enactors in the same uniform is, for the regular uniform, easier then having a French Battalion. And I'm not talking about badges and the detailed stuff. I meant, in eyes of the public. Then, In Napoleonics, every regiment has different buttons...

Then you've never seen a progressive/hardcore unit before. basically, what I dont like, is that you make it seem as though acw guys don't have to put forth any effort. Which is just not true. both napoleonic and acw reenactors put forth huge amounts of effort and neither side should acuse the other of not trying.

Also, im using my phone so I apologize for weird spellings and suff lol

I apologize if I sounded like that (reading back, I did sound like that), it was not my intention. But I keep with my opinion: ACW units clubbing together look easier the same then Napoleonics.

Hullo! Is that the 7th I see at 3:15? If I could actually travel easily and had enough disposable income and some more riding experience, I'd love to join them.
As far as I know though, they're in Wales, I'm in Northern England.

Regarding what Duuring said about the amount of different things you'd need to accurately portray the Napoleonic Wars, note the British Hussars there are in pre-1811 gear, tall busbys and white lace. Having a separate uniform without the white facings, in gold lace and a shorter busby would probably set each of them back... well... a lot.

Not sure if it's more on the very expensive side, but the tailor made Pelisse's I've seen were roughly £1000, and the Dolman £600, rounding up.

Not commenting on how difficult re-enacting different wars is, just backing up how costly extra uniforms would be.

lol back to the topic...

This is from the epic Cornfield scenario from the rebel perspective. It was soooooo smokey.

Those rebel yells are pretty impressive, do they do some sort of coaching on how to do them properly?
Wanted to learn ever since being a Confederate Officer in N&S, never got around to it because I'd rather not startle everyone in the vicinity.

You will love this rebel yell then... (14:20) I'm in the federal  battalion kneeling there when they are yelling. There were about 2,000 rebels at that event...

Nice use of the vignette and filter there. A bit heavy, but makes things look a little cinematic.

Seems civil war reenactors create a lot of smoke.

I bet it was awesome. Watching all this make me can't wait to start the season. I have first event coming up this sunday, its a 8 mile marching event. Oh boy lol.

Heres one of my personal favorite video. It capture the "badassery" of the Rebel Yell done by our favorites, Liberty Rifles.
