Call me an ignorant pleb but what are the significant differences between the German uniforms and the Austrian uniforms? Weren't they all wearing the same thing?

I think they wore same uniform as germans after 1915, but at the beginning of the war, A.H army is described as a very  colorfull european army. Uniforms of the infantrymen were:

With variations depending the nationality, special troops, etc....( i don't remember well).

It was an old organisation army, multilanguages and not well equiped, that explain why they were lames ( in the technical way).

If you really want a good book about the armies organisation and uniforms of all belligerants at the begining of the war,  i advise you to find the book of John Keegan about the great war. It describes  alot and talk about that

Hey, I'm Belgian and even I admit that the Imperial Japanese Army was cooler than the Belgian Army. Except when they get all genocidal, but that's after WWI so it doesn't count.
