Haha, don't get that mess tin from Hessen. It's post-war and not accurate. Get one from At the Front.

I also recommend buying your winter items afterwards. You can more than survive in 0 degree (Celsius) weather with your regular wools if you're good at heat management.

Also, yes. Talk with reenactors and join a unit.
Humans are extremely complicated creatures. Death uncomplicates them to a frightening degree...

Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.
