No it's a promo for another regiment in the UK, the 45eme, although one of our members did act as an extra in the filming, you can spot him as he's the French soldier in 1812 kit while the 45e have 1809 regulation uniform.

I don't like any of the British Napoleonic French groups. the 69eme are the best, but even they aren't that great.
The 45e Genie are the worst, followed by the 45e Line.

And whatever they are wearing is hardly regulatory. They are mixing campaign, fiction and parade dress together. It's absurd.

At least they're carrying full backpacks and uniforms. Get rid of the shako cords and they're a long way there.

Funnily enough, I noticed in the video that some of them indeed aren't wearing shako cords while others do.

What? You can clearly see that some of them are wearing empty backpacks. Besides its probably filled with straw or something.

Oh wait no. I forgot that they do not issue straw in the UK...

Add stones in backpack for increased manliness
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

Well no, my point is that these people aren't even trying to carry stuff in the backpack that makes sense. Or to carry anything in it at all.

Filling your backpack with straw is actually historically accurate though! They would do it when on garrison. There is actually a story about a Prussian Unit that was garrisoned somewhere in Germany and did drill with straw filled backpacks. Napoleon and his army marched by and he watched them doing drill. Apparently he liked them so much, that he added the unit to his army and commanded them to march with him. The guys never had the chance to fill their backpacks with anything useful, so they had to march to campaign with straw filled backpacks.
The unit would send train units to pick up their gear later, but for the first few days/weeks they had to go without it...

Carrying your stuff is so handy. You don't risk anyone stealing anything and you don't have to worry about having one item here, one item it that tent, one item in the car, et cetera. And it's not even that heavy. Packing it properly and carrying it on the right height already helps a lot, and you get used to the weight anyway. Yeah, it still tiring, but it's re-enactment after all.

An added advantage is that people have to keep bullshit items at home because they cannot carry it. Unless your Olafson's brother of course, and you wreck yourself because you just have to bring a large heavy 1 litre bottle of beer.

He carried 2 bottles adding an additional 3-4 kilogram of weight to the backpack.

Napoleonic/Civil War Backpacks are not made to hold more than 10-15kg of weight. They will cut into your flesh and you won't get enough blood in your arms. You can do that with a modern Bergen backpack, its straps are far wider, softer and it usually has a chest and waist strap. Napoleonic packs have neither, and the Civil war chest straps are kinda useless.
