Modifications / Carolean unit (still in progress)
« on: November 11, 2013, 11:28:29 am »
Heres a Swedish Carolean unit that I started a few days back. It consists of new torso, equipment, and hat models and new textures. Its obviously not from the NW times but it was fun to make anyway. It's not done yet since the tricorne isn't exactly the right shape, some of the models need to be fixed, and I still need to edit and add details to the torso uniform. atm it replaces the Austrian Jaeger in game.

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on how to make it better, especially the tricorne because I can't seem to get the right shape.

Modifications / Need some help with rigging
« on: November 09, 2013, 08:52:05 am »

I have made some models and textures for a mod that I am working on at the moment ready to use but now have some problems with importing them into the game because they are not rigged to an animation and are just static .obj files. I use blender and know the basics of rigging models such as exporting the skeleton from openBRF into the file and then setting the skeleton as a parent of the model. I also have the .smd extension installed and know how to export the file, but I do not know which settings to use and how to do anything other than set the parent and export the file. I have tried a few times by just making the skeleton the parent of a model and then exporting it into openBRF as a .smd file, but when I then try to play the animation, my model is either still static and just hanging on to the skeleton and not moving, or it moves in a weird way, such as in these pictures:

I know that I could have used already rigged models exported from NW in the beginning, but when I started I didn't think of that so all my models that I have modified and created are static. It is also obvious because in blender they show up as just gray, while models that I exported from openBRF that were rigged have weights, are rigged, and show up as more blue.
As you can see, I am obviously doing something wrong, perhaps with weights, so I would greatly appreciated if someone could give some sort of help
Ive checked the rigging tutorial here on the forum but it doesn't apply to blender
Thanks

An upcoming sandbox mmorpg that I found a while ago. It looks pretty good and seems to be atleast different from the 2 million other fantasy wow-type MMOs that exist

They also have an Indiegogo campaign: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/life-is-feudal

Information

The Russo-Japanese War lasted from 1904 to 1905 and was fought by the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan for colonial rights in Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula. The war started because of disputes over land in the area, as Russia wanted to have Port Arthur in Manchuria as their own warm-water port for trade and their navy, which the Japanese disapproved of and countered by offering to give Russia Manchuria for inclusion of Korea in their sphere of influence. The Russians declined the offer, and war soon broke out when the Japanese attacked the Russian navy near Port Arthur.

After this, many more battles, both on land and at sea, took place and the  war later moved further inland and took place in large parts of Manchuria and Korea. Towards the end of the war, Japan had destroyed a large part of the Russians' east navy and army, which led to it ending in 1905 with a Japanese victory and control over Korea. Many decisive battles of the war took place at sea, but this mod will instead to focus on the many land battles that took place in the hills and plains of Manchuria.

This mod will aim to portray the uniforms and weapons of the Russo-Japanese War, and will to some degree display warfare of the early 20th century. Although it will be somewhat historically accurate in terms of uniforms and weapons, certain names and uniforms to corresponding regiments could be incorrect because of the lack of sources.

We now have a mod team with members to help with textures, models, and coding, but since the team is still quite small and in order to speed up progress, we still welcome more help with anything that has to do with the mod. This would for example be modeling and texturing, getting models and textures into the game properly, mapping, scripting, creating graphics such as signatures and logos, coding and scripting for weapon accuracy, number of rounds, damage, range, reload time, etc. We also welcome help and suggestions for unit names (historically accurate if possible).

Modifications / Mod Idea: Russo-Japanese Mod/Boer War
« on: June 07, 2013, 08:15:45 am »
Anyone interested in making a Russo Japanese/boer war mod for NW? I have no experience modding myself but i like history, know basic photoshop stuff, and have made some weapon models in blender before. Im not announcing myself as leader or lead developer of the mod but just presenting the idea so that if anyone who would like to develop or lead the mod they can do it and i will help with as much as i can.
The mod would basically include 4 factions, some new weapon models, new uniforms/models, a few maps, and a bolt action rifle animation and maybe changing some other stuff that needs to be changed (i dont know much about NW modding).
Post if you have any questions/opinions/ thoughts, are interested,  or whatever or if you just want to know more
