Britain makes sense, they gave aid to the confederates. Maybe legions of foreign troops, but not an entire faction.

in my point of view,it's kinda stupid to even think about these countries's existance in the game...since they did not participate in Civil War AT ALL(...exept from England,dunno)
but, the game is about Union and Confederacy and that's the way it should stay..

France, certainly France. The French attempted to pester the British into recognizing the Confederacy with them, but failed to do so. (The French did not want to upset their ally (Britain), and decided against doing it alone). The French intervention in Mexico is going on during this time period, and actually affects American foreign policy (ex. Seward expresses disapproval with the action, but does not escalate it, due to the American Civil War). So seeing as the French intervention in Mexico was 1862-1867, one could argue that they should be added.

The Austrians could be argued, but not very well. A Hapsburg reigned as Emperor of Mexico (Maximilian I (1864-1867)) because he was placed on that throne by the forces of Napoleon III (1853-1871) of France. Better to add France than Austria.

Yes but there was a lot more going on in Europe in the 1860s than in the Americas in all honesty. The Communist Manifesto gaining respect and becoming more influentional, the forced alliance between Austria and Prussia that would eventually cause WWI, the beginning of the unification of Germany, the French and Mexicans at each others throats, etc. this isn't a "euro war", your right. But it is a European based development team with a strong European community and it would be interesting to see what other cultures and superpowers people would hypothetically like to see

Two factions gets boring very quickly, as you end up using the same strategy/style of play over, and over, and over again.

I'm sorry, I suppose I should elaborate.

When you don't play as just line infantry, different factions can change the game for you. Russian Partizans and Cossacks, British rockets, Austrian Grenzers, the naval troops (If you can disregard the war cries). There's a whole host of things you can do beyond 'charge, shoot, stab, die' over and over.

However, are you saying that if you were thrown into any of those classes, you would do the same thing you would as line infantry? Because it'd be suicide, you know.

I have never read anything about foreign mercenaries in the war. If you've found something about it, I'll be shocked.


Also, to the earlier comment about Florida drivers;
I resent that, it's the tourists and the people of the peninsula that can't drive. And we all know the latter group is mostly made up of long-term tourists.

Irish Brigade?

There was a Dutch Volunteer company/regiment I believe.

And doubtless there were mercs. Perhaps singel soldiers.

That would probably make sense, General Stuart had a prussian hussar that came all the way to join Stuart. He goes by the name Borsche i think something like that.

Both sides did not need mercenaries and they did not exist. All foreign observers A. Did not wear their uniforms out of fear of a political incident and B. Never ever participated in combat.

The French were actually doing a great deal of tinkering in North America at the time, given their intervention in Mexico and whatnot. Napoleon III was generally supportive of the CSA, but refused to recognize them without the support of the British in order to preserve that particular relationship. So the closest they got was briefly establishing a state in Mexico that owed its existence to the Second French Empire.

So yes, the French were just south of the Rio Grande during the American Civil War. lol

You guys are all clearly EU, leaving out Native American Factions in favor of European factions that had no affect on the war at all. Add Comanches, Sioux, and Apache and the game becomes much more interesting

Actually, some Africans would be nice, seeing as their descendants ended up fighting in the ACW. So not only were they slaves, but in the case of the Confederacy, many ended up fighting for their oppressors...  :-\

Prussia would be preferable, since they kicked a** in several wars during this time period. But, the United Kingdom was in a way related to the American Civil War due to them giving arms to Dixie Traitors.
