Off Topic / James Foley and ISIS + Steven Sotloff + David Haines
« on: August 20, 2014, 06:53:24 pm »
Thread for discussion of the recent execution of James Foley by ISIS and just events in the region as of recent.

James Foley was a freelance US photo journalist who went missing in Syria about a year ago. He was taken from an internet cafe in Binesh, Syria by an organized gang, along with his translator. His translator was later released. Yesterday a video was posted of a masked man beheading James Foley. The man who performed the beheading claimed his actions were in retaliation to "American Aggression Against the Islamic State". Minutes before the beheading James Foley said this (summarized) "I call on my friends and family to rise up against my real killers, the US Government, for what will happen to me is only a result of their actions. My message to my parents: save me some dignity and don't accept any meager compensation for my death, from the same people who effectively hit the last nail in my coffin, with their recent aerial campaign against Iraq. I call on my brother, who is a member of the US Air Force. Think about what you're doing, about the lives you destroy, including your own family, think about your decision to bomb Iraq recently. Think about who that really killed, and then think about me, you and our family when you make that decision. I died that day, when you dropped that bomb, you signed my death certificate. I wish I had more time, more time to see my family, but that ship has sailed. All in all, I wish I wasn't American." I can't fathom what they would have done to the poor guy if he hadn't spouted that poorly written propaganda for them. He's probably already undergone months of torture. Another thing I noticed is that the knife they used was particularly dull, that's rough. At the end of the video they present a second journalist, and says "The life of this next American citizen prisoner depends on your next decision, Obama." The one thing a lot of people seem to be noticing and are getting a bit concerned over is that the executioner actually has a London accent, and very fluent English.

Here is more details on it, link provided to me by Vince. I was just going to post the Liveleak article, but due to it having video of a beheading, Vince told me he'd rather I didn't, understandably.

I won't go and lock the thread if discussion gets heated like others do, but keep the trolling out of this thread, and make derails short.

Other Games / Nintendo Thread
« on: June 13, 2014, 06:16:02 am »
Discuss the only relevant game console company, Nintendo. Exchange friend codes, talk about the E3 press conference, consoles of the past, present, and future and of course the games.

As for me I own every NTSC console and handheld excluding the Wii U and Virtual Boy (and redundancies, such as the Gameboy Micro and 2DS, excluding upgrades such as the XL), as well as the Famicom and Super Famicom. Favorite Nintendo IPs and exclusives include Fire Emblem (played all NA releases), Final Fantasy (No longer exclusive, but FF6 and before they were), Dragon Quest/ Dragon Warrior (Another fantastic RPG series), Megaman (Pre X, although X is great too), Advanced Wars (Great strategy games) and the oft forgotten Breath of Fire series. Obviously I like the givens too (Mario, Zelda, DK.... RIP Rare /;)

Friend Code: 1950-9744-2513

I'll kick the thread off. How about that new open world Zelda? Personally might be the Wii U's selling point for me.

Oh also....

Looks like a WW2 Crysis. I love Crysis, consider me interested.

Runs on Crytek engine, play as an American war correspondent who is working with resistance members in Warsaw... a nice change of pace from most WW2 shooters (Germany, Russia, Japan, France).

Seems like the exact opposite of most shooters these days, no corridors, nice open areas with lots of approaches to the engagements, a complete and working stealth system (hostages, stealth executions), cinematic sniping.

Looks like it could be a really solid game.

This trailer could be offensive to some people (shows a kid and family getting murdered)

Time: 2/25 at approximately this time (12:50pm EST)

What I did: Outstanding warrant, DUI, evading arrest, assault and battery (Self defence, the pigs didn't buy it though) and to top it off when I was brought in for questioning I stole all your donuts.
Nah j/k I TKd a guy who entered the server solely to TK me from a different EU server I was on previously in the week, called him a Europoor (which apparently egged him on even though he already had his motives....k) and then stomped his ass in self defense. This was followed by a month long ban after I posted on his ban request from another user confirming that he was a troll.

Why I should be unbanned: I donated 10 dollars to charity today at my local grocery store.

In game name: some sort of tags _Crunch, but you know who I am, so no sweat.

If you unban me my CD key can RIP in peas.
Please put my CD key at peace.

Other Games / This War of Mine - In war not everyone is a soldier

Consider me hyped.

Developer Description
This War Of Mine is a game that provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle. For the very first time you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout. At night you get a chance to scavenge nearby locations for items that will help you stay alive.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them to endure the hardships. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

Other Games / The Witcher Series 1,2 and 3
« on: February 19, 2014, 01:39:57 pm »

The Witcher.... such a fantastic, underrated series. Makes me wonder how on Earth there is not a thread for this.

The Witcher 3

Watch this badass trailer before reading on.

The Witcher 2 is my 2nd favorite RPG of all time and sets the bar for all modern RPGs, and that bar is about to be set higher. Call me a sucker, but Witcher 3 is GOTY for me. An Open world with all the glory of a Witcher game? Hell yeah! What could possibly be better than a PC focused, open world RPG with amazing story, memorable characters, mind blowing visuals, tactical cRPG combat and an amazing soundtrack to go along with it? Hint: Nothing

To add onto that, CD Projekt Red are like the most amazing AAA developer's out there. They are the only game studio that comes to mind which I can trust will never make a bad game nor business decision. They believe in PC gaming first, no DRM, no micro transactions, no censorship and no paid DLC. They work purely out of passion, and it shows in their games.

Here is a gameplay trailer:

Honestly, if you don't get the Witcher 3 hype from watching that, you are not human  :o

The Witcher 2

Not much that hasn't been said already about the Witcher 2 can be said. It truly is one of the finest RPGs crafted.

Oh, and it is home to my favorite videogame trailer of all time.  ::)

The Witcher

The Witcher 2 improved on almost every aspect of the Witcher 1, but it is still a great game and definitely worth the playthrough for the story. The game played almost 100% differently compared to the Witcher 2, it was more of a Dragon Age combat system, but regardless, the story and immersion of the game are fantastic.

Regiments / Kievskiy Grenadierskiy Polk [NA]
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:58:09 pm »

General Information

The Kievskiy Grenadierskiy Polk is a regiment formed on the 9th of February, 2014. It's leader, Crunch has had many experiences running Napoleonic Wars groups, particularly mercenary regiments and pub stomping regiments, but never before has he ran an NW regiment. The goal of the Kievskiy Grenadierskiy Polk is to provide a fun, but disciplined environment for both newcomers and veterans alike. We use the theory "Serious Fun" to describe ourselves, playing seriously, without taking away the fun. The regiment will follow a realistic ranking structure, and everyone will have a fair chance to earn ranks, and in turn, get the ability to lead, among other things. The regiment believes that the best training is the training received on the battlefield, therefor, mandatory trainings are not a thing in this regiment. However, trainings will be held, and attending them certainly won't hurt your standing within the regiment. The regiment will not tolerate trolls or those who would besmirch the regiment name, and will deal with them adamantly. We will try and have events every day possible. We will be focusing on outwitting and outperforming our opponents, but brain will come before brawn in this regiment. This regiment wants to see all it's members reach the best of their capabilities, and personal advice and training can and will be given to those who request it, or those who show more potential than that of which they are actual reaching. We are not miracle workers however, so don't expect to be made into an outstanding player overnight. We hope you enjoy your time playing with, against, or in the Kievskiy Grenadierskiy Polk, and look forward to a great time and legacy within the NW community.

Rules
 • Respect the leaders and their decisions, listen to them well and of course, let them know of any concerns, you will not be shut up for speaking your mind, just know their is a time and place for everything.
 • Do not be annoying. It goes without saying that there is a time and place for everything, and the time for singing or argumentation is not during a battle.
 • Trolling will get you nowhere good, directed at us, or others, it does not matter, trolling will not be tolerated in this regiment.
 • Watch your language. Context is a part of the equation, but keep in mind that a regiment is bound to have several members from many different minorities and groups, so even if you're joking around, sometimes it is best to just keep it to yourself, lest you accidentally offend someone.
 • Use your brain, you were given it for a reason. Doing idiotic things will get you punished, you are expected to have some common sense, doing 360 spins wildly in the middle of a melee in which there is 1 enemy and 3 allies is not common sense.
 • Keep a level head, nobody likes a sourpuss.
 • No double regimenting.

Regimental History

The Kievskiy Grenadierskiy Polk served Tsar Alexander I of Russia in his Imperial Russian Army during the Napoleonic Wars. Their most notable battle was at Borodino, where they joined forces with the 2nd Grenadier Division. The 2nd Grenadier Division was under the command of Pyotr Bagration, now a national hero in Russia for his heroic defense of what is now known as the Bagration Fleches. The Kiev Grenadiers were in charge of defending these field defenses, and during the whole day they were under attack from cavalry, artillery and infantry assaults. Up to 6-7 full scale assaults were launched by the French to take the Fleches, but each and every time they were beaten back by the Grenadiers who would pepper them down with their muskets and canister shot, then charge them with bayonets ready. However the victory came at a price; the 2nd Grenadier Division which had some of the finest regiments in Russia such as the Moscow and Siberian grenadiers alongside the Kiev Grenadiers, had shrunk to little more than a single Regiment out of the original 5 by the end of the day. The Kiev Grenadiers were little more than just a company by the end of the day. However thanks to their hardships that day, the French army was decimated and later retreated from the motherland. The Kiev Grenadiers were rebuilt and were back up to strength and ready to participate in the final campaign to drive Napoleon out of Europe.

Russian Grenadiers

The Russian Grenadier is distuingished from his Musketeer counterpart by being of exceptional height. As if they were not tall enough they had headwear adorned with tall plumes to make them look even taller! The Russian Grenadier was also an experienced soldier, they were disciplined and daring. Only the very best from each battalion would advance to the 14 Grenadier regiments Russia possessed. These men would advance in deep attack columns, they were ruthlessly trained to listen to their officers and not to disobey any order, the discipline was stern. This discipline resulted in some of the best soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars era.

"The tenacity of Russian grenadier equals
that of the very best French and English regiments."

The Russian grenadier, whom preferred to attack with the bayonet as he was very skilled with this weapon, is most known for their ferocious assaults that were known throughout Europe. Even though this was war, the Russian Grenadiers still had some humour.
In the battle of Morungen, the Russian Grenadiers used musket butts against French voltigeurs. The grenadiers said: "These shorties are not worthy of our bayonets!"

« on: February 02, 2014, 01:06:13 am »
Post a portrait of your in game NW character, the idea is to hopefully get enough to archive the NW community's character designs for fun, and maybe even make a giant ass collage of us all to post on the Steam community hub (that will show those Native players who is superior :p). You can make your own or give me a source image and I will make one for you ;D

Keep in mind, if you give me a photo with lower resolution or graphics options, it might come out blurrier, due to having to get rid of jaggies and stuff. For example:

Magicka Wizard Wars is an arena style take on Magicka. Just today they decided to give a copy out to every owner of a Mount and Blade game. I'll just copy paste the email here, so you know the story and bla bla bla.

"As of January 31st at 00:00 (UTC -08:00) Paradox Interactive will be handing over the reins for Mount and Blade back to the developer, TaleWorlds. We feel honoured to have fought beside the fine warriors and at our final parting of ways would bid our farewells with a gift, Magicka: Wizard Wars has automatically beeen added to every Mount & Blade players library.

Paradox North has also announced a new mode. In Duel Mode, four players will step into an arena with a shortage of personal space, and two randomly chosen players will begin the battle in a one-on-one format while the others witness the carnage."

And of course, some TotalBiscuit.

There isn't too much out on this game that isn't explained in this video, the game looks like one that I've always wanted. Enjoy.

Set in Medieval Europe (Yes, historical, no fantasy bull), non linear RPG style, massive Total War esque battles..... in FIRST PERSON, amazing graphics, looks like the gameplay is fantastic.

Other Games / RENEGADE X!!!!! OMG FINALLY! <333333
« on: January 22, 2014, 03:00:12 am »
Command and Conquer: Renegade X

For the uninformed, Command and Conquer is a badass RTS series that really kicked off the genre in which every release was received with critical acclaim, and nerdgasms were had throughout the world with each new release of C&C... that is until Westwood closed shop and sold to EA, which left off at Generals, which wasn't bad, not at all, but certainly not C&C standards good. It lacked the great story, CG cutscenes and great personality every character had, from grunt, general to even tank. That said, the gameplay itself was still stellar. Then Red Alert 3 came out, which was also skeptically received, however it did go back to it's roots with the awesome story, and the continuation of the Red Alert story arc, which tended to be everyone's favorite in terms of general storyline (let's face it boys, Yuri>Kane). However, the gameplay was also dumbed down and made faster place, and from there the series just tumbled, with C&C4 being bad in every single way (It even had the great CG everyone loved and story, but alas, they somehow managed to fuck that up as well!), and more recently, their biggest fail yet, and what was probably the nail in the official Command and Conquer series, the Command and Conquer 2: Generals MMO, which was shut down just before their beta and scrapped entirely, with an uncertain future.

Here is a trailer to compliment the last paragraph and give a better understanding of what C&C was all about.

So, why did I just inform you about a brief history of C&C and some of it's charming characteristics when it came to story and grunt machine gun fodder soldiers with more personality than your average FPS main character? Well, there was one more game that was received skeptically.... it's name was Renegade. Renegade took all these characters from the Tiberium story ark (Dr. Mobius, Kane, Sheppard, Sakura, etc) and put them in a FPS. Now, you can imagine that fans were pretty grumbly when they heard their favorite RTS game was being made into a FPS, but all that changed when they got their hands on it. Now, we will just disregard the singleplayer, it didn't have many great qualities, and was mostly just throaway material like most FPS singleplayers. So what made Renegade so fun? I think you know the answer. It's multiplayer, which plays like a hybrid between Natural Selection 2 or Serious Sam gunplay wise, and Planetside 2 vehicle wise and economy wise. You started in a base very reminscent of previous Command and Conquer games, except you were the grunt, you had your harvesters go collect tiberium and bring them back to base to be distributed among players, you could buy all the different vehicles and play as them, and of course, play as the charismatic characters everyone knew and love. Needless to say, the multiplayer was loved and was a great hit with the fans.

And that leads us to today, and the future. With the uncertainty of another true command and conquer looming over the heads of all the fans starving for another great C&C like back in the day, a beacon of hope has been lit, in the form of Renegade X. Renegade X, originally a reimagining and recrafting of Renegade for Unreal Tournament 3 in the form of a mod, eventually turned into a standalone project, which is coming to a close in the next few days, finally open to the public after years of waiting. Renegade X will be FREE, and by FREE, I don't mean free to play, I mean free, no transactions, no purchases, no subscriptions, literally no possible way to spend money on the game, it was a passion project by command and conquer fans around the world and a testament to the true dedication of the fans, even after all these years of let downs. Before I give the info on release dates and where to download, enjoy a few trailers to see how long and how much hard work and progress has been made on this game.

One of the very first trailers, from way back in early January, 2009

FINALLY, the release of the mod! and man, what a mod it was, winning numerous mod of the year awards, including ModDB, and was received with huge amounts of fanfare, finally, a Command and Conquer game worth getting hype over

After the immense success of the mod, the devs announced they would be making a standalone game..... and thus begins the journey.

A trailer posted mid December, 2011, with a release date, late January, 2012..... one of the first teasers.... pretty much everyone's reaction: Sweet mother of god this looks amazing!

The launch trailer for the singleplayer demo! Awesome, it's not the multiplayer everyone has been waiting for, but a proof of concept everyone can try, and damn was it good.

Finally, just a few months ago, the devs released this trailer, showing off all the classic multiplayer maps... this is it guys, we are getting close to completion, everyone knew it, and was eagerly awaiting that announcement.

The moment everyone has been waiting for, a trailer released just today,  with a personal speech by the dev, "we got a present for you", music to any C&C fan's ears. HOLY SHIT GUYS, after so many years, the open, playable version is just around the corner.

With that said guys, I encourage you, NW community, mark your calendars, bookmark this website http://www.renegade-x.com/ and get ready, if there is one video game passion project out there that deserves some love this year, it's Renegade X.

February 26th, beta test the shit out of this game, and help shape it into the game every fan and newcomer alike has been waiting for.

Released Modifications / Remove Kebab in NW
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:03:34 am »
Simply a file that replaces the bugler's (any nation) fire tune to the remove kebab tune. I am sharing this file because many people don't realize how to replace audio in the game, and yet I have seen like 20 people say they wished this song was in the game, for lols, of course.

To install, simply move the file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MountBlade Warband\Modules\Napoleonic Wars\Sounds or your non-Steam equivalent and enjoy. (;

Download: https://mega.co.nz/#!5hAgRJCQ!RCopHEdt7WAb4UQyzLjMuBJVIHI8GkHDbO8vKbq_ZZU

disclaimer
Clearly, this mod doesn't make much sense, considering there is no accordion or keyboard in NW, but besides bagpipes, the bugle was the closest sounding thing to an accordion in game, and I didn't choose bagpipes because they aren't a team universal instrument. So all you "realism" buffs, don't get all heated. Also, don't consider this a real mod, I simply got the perfect loop download in the highest quality possible, renamed it correctly and typed the install directions, I'm not claiming this to be an actual mod, just making the process easier for those who actually said that the remove kebab song would be both hilarious and awesome in NW, so again, don't get all heated, learn to have a bit of fun, eh? :p
