General Discussion / Holdfast Look Alike?
« on: December 14, 2018, 09:37:47 am »
I was talking with friends about Battle Cry of Freedom, and I was wondering if this was going to be similar to Holdfast mechanics? The graphics certainly look similar, but I was wondering if the melee and shooting was similar. That is one thing that somewhat worries me, because I love Warband mechanics...the melee and shooting aspect, and Holdfast lacks in terms of melee at least. Was just wondering if anyone knew or had predictions.

North & South: First Manassas / Update?
« on: May 12, 2018, 01:49:18 am »
I think it’s safe to say that everyone that still remains in North South, conducting events and leading regiments, are really wanting an update. Especially since Napoleonic Wars just recently got an update. As the North South Communities struggle to get a sliver of attendance (North Americans especially), a small update that just enables some of the newer features in NW would really come a long way.

Some of the various leaders in North and South have spoken with Hinkel, the main developer of North and South, the response is none. I myself have sent a message to Hinkel to update the mod. Expressing to him that doing so will result in bigger advertisement for War of Rights, and giving a hand to the communities that have remained here (Dixieland Army, Confederate States Army, and Union Brigade). But I have been ignored as well.

This isn’t throwing shade at Hinkel. Whom I know is extremely busy with War of Rights. But I know that various developers from several mods are happy just to do an update North and South. To continue its progress. To give some sort of relief to the people who haven’t jumped ship for Holdfast, War of Rights, or Post Scriptum. I know that eventually Warband will die until Bannerlord comes out (whenever that is), or Battle Cry of Freedom, but hosting events with an average of 50 to 100 people isn’t a relief.

I'm posting this to bring some sort of awareness to this mod. Or perhaps some attention to it. For the people that remained, would certainly be happy to have some sort of new content.

I would love to hear out some people’s opinion on it

Who was General William Hardee?

William Joseph Hardee was a very successful member of the United States military before the outbreak of the Civil War.  He began his career after graduating 25th out of a class of 45 from the United States Military Academy in 1838.  He served briefly during the Seminole Wars, and went on to fight during the Mexican-American War.  During the war, he received two brevet promotions up to lieutenant colonel for gallantry, and was captured at Carricitos Ranch, Texas.  After being exchanged, he was later wounded at La Rosia, Mexico.  After the war had ended, he returned to West Point and served as the commandant of cadets from 1856 to 1860.  During this time, Hardee wrote what would become one of the most widely used infantry tactics books of the Civil War, called Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics (1853-1855), or more commonly Hardee’s Tactics.  When Georgia seceded from the Union, Hardee resigned his commission in the United States military and traveled south.

He was quickly appointed a brigadier general on June 17, 1861, and promoted to major general on October 7, 1861.  His early assignment in the war was to organize regiments from Arkansas and operate in the state.  His ability to solve difficult problems earned him both the respect of the men under his command as well as the nickname “Old Reliable.”  Shortly before the battle of Shiloh, Hardee was called upon by General Albert Sydney Johnston to lead a Corps in the Army of Mississippi.  He commanded the corps through the battle of Shiloh, and received a wound to the arm.  After the battle, the corps under the command of Hardee was sent to the Army of Tennessee under Braxton Bragg.  Hardee led his men throughout Bragg’s Kentucky campaign.  He fought at the battle of Perryville, and led with great success at the battle of Stones River, where his surprise attack against union troops under William S. Rosecrans helped turn the battle.  He commanded troops throughout the battle of Murfreesboro, and was promoted to lieutenant general on October 10, 1862.
Hardee replaced Leonidas Polk after the battle of Chickamauga, and led the corps through the battle of Chattanooga.  During the battle, Hardee and his men were able to defeat Union troops under the command of George H. Thomas.  After the battle, Hardee and several Confederate officers convinced Confederate President Jefferson Davis to remove Bragg from command.   Hardee commanded troops during the Atlanta campaign under General Joseph E. Johnston.  During the last months of the war, Hardee commanded troops during the battle of Jonesborough, and went on to command the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.  He resisted armies under Union general William T. Sherman, but was forced to give up both Savannah and Charleston.  He took part in the battle of Bentonville in North Carolina, and surrendered to Sherman along with Joseph E. Johnston on April 26, 1865.

After the war, he returned to the life of a planter in Alabama, and was generally seen as one of the Confederacy’s best corps commanders.

Technical Support / Napoleonic Wars Not Recognized
« on: January 04, 2017, 06:40:29 am »
I purchased Mount and Blade and the DLC Napoleonic Wars about four years ago. And have played it many times with Regiments or free time. With other many mods. However, with my 1400hrs on the game, I have never encounted this sort of issue. When I was installing the mod North and South 1.1, like I have done many times. An error appeared when I was trying to install it (its a exe file). It said that I needed to purchase the Napoleonic Wars Expanison, in order to play the mod. However, I had Mount and Blade installed, along with NW. To make sure. I check my Library and saw that the DLC was installed. So I redownloaded both the MB and the mod North and South to see if perhaps I had a bad download. Still had the issue. I then check the files to see if I was missing any, I wasn't. I even played Napoleonic Wars (on 63e Siege Server), and still gave me the error.  So I am starting to run out of ideas. If anyone has had this issue and fixed it, please contact me. Thank you!

Well, this is an odd place to post this. But I really had no idea to post it. But here goes. I am horrible with FSE Forum posing. My regiment, the 5th Georgia Volunteers, is a regiment in North and South Mod. Been active for nearly two years and steady active. For this, I really want a decent FSE Forum. Layout and the whole nine yards. I have the information, pictures, icons, and what not. All that is needed. And if I don't, I am more than wiling to provide the needed information. But please, we are in need of a brilliant FSE Forum. If you are interested in such task, then please add me here https://steamcommunity.com/id/DixeFighter/.

Reserving Hardee's Brigade!

--- Siege of Corinth ---

--- Battles of Stones River ---

--- Tullahoma Campaign ---

--- Battle of Chickamauga ---

--- Siege of Chattanooga ---

--- Battle of Bentonville ---

The 5th Georgia Volunteer Infantry was organized on May 11, 1861, and surrendered on April 26, 1865. They were formed from 10 Companies in 1861, to be first posted in Florida under General Bragg, where they received their training. Their first combat assignment was on Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Florida. The assault on the Island resulted in a victory and early experience for the regiment. Following this, the regiment was posted in early 1862 to Knoxville, Tennessee, and Corinth, Mississippi. They were ordered to move on Shiloh in April but arrived too late to participate in the battle. The regiment fought in and around Corinth until the end of May when they were ordered to participate in the Invasion of Kentucky. Following that failure, they were reassigned to battle in Murfreesboro. This proved devastating to the 5th Georgia, where they received 32% casualties along with their Colonel and the regimental battle flag. Following this defeat, the regiment pulled back to Shelbyville, Tennessee, where it remained until they went to participate in the Tullahoma Campaign. Come September 1863 the regiment was back in native Georgia. They suffered further casualties, 55%, at the Battle of Chickamauga. They participated in the Siege of Chattanooga on Missionary Ridge until they were driven from their position and fell back with the rest of the Army of Tennessee. The regiment suffered through a series of battles in their retreat through Georgia in early 1864 and served as prison guards until being moved to the South Carolina coast late that year. They fought to protect the Charleston and Savannah railroad, losing the battle flag a second time as they were forced to retreat. The 5th continued in retreat with the rest of the Confederate Army through North Carolina. They participated in the Battle of Bentonville in March, launching an assault against the Federal XX Corp, where they encountered devastating fire and were forced to fall back. The Army of Tennessee surrendered on April 26, 1865, where a few members of the regiment were present to witness the surrender at the Bennett Homestead.

I am Francis, the Colonel of the 5th Georgia Volunteers. I assume from your visitation of this thread you are wondering, "Who are these guys? I've never heard of this regiment before." That's a valid question and, at the time of writing, the 5th Georgia has been around since December 5th, 2014. We originated from the long-lost mod, "North and South''. After the mod died following a prestigious life, the 5th Georgia has been mostly hanging out. We still go to events from time to time, but we mostly play various games together throughout the week. However, we long for a good Civil War-based game. Since Battle Cry's revival in development, we look forward to enjoying this game, and the members of its community!
