The European Union

Maybe the forming of the question wasn't the best but you get the general idea.
EU? Yes/No??

Post your opinions below.
Please, let's show the admins and moderators that we can have a civil debate!
Good luck :)

Mod Comment: You have my permission to make the thread, but I expect anyone using the thread to do so in a mature and sensible fashion. That means no insulting each other, and no massive generalisations about other cultures/religions/political systems (of the kind we say in the politics thread closed yesterday).

It will be your responsibility to make sure the thread follows the rules above.

Sure will, Blob!

Can't the EU just be left as is?

I'm personally for a peace making union but not what we are seeing today with all the federalistic goals. I don't want a "United States of Europe".

I also set the poll to run for 175 days :)

I'm not entirely fond of the idea of creating a Fourth Reich. I can appreciate that people would like to see a stronger EU, however the answer is not to give more strength to the political body itself; rather to further schemes that encourage co-operation, growth and free trade between the existing member states.

It's also worth pointing out that the EU as it is has a reputation in the United Kingdom (I don't know about other countries) for intruding in matters that do not concern it, such as the deportation of extremists and the detention of criminals, to name a few. Since when did human rights become more important than human life?

The European Union is a great way to promote European brotherhood, which is a great idea according to me.

As soon as the Jobbik will be the "leader" in Hungary they will leave European Union. And that's great. I hope Hungary will leave European Union as soon as possible.

Woah, Jobbik is still doing good? I got a very strong impression when reading about them a few years ago that they where into the whole slav-power neo-Nazi thing, has that changed or should I be worried?

I like it. Communication, cooperation as well as unity in certain aspects are key to maintaining our high standard of  living. The separate states must remain sovereign in my eyes though, I'm really happy about the variety of cultures we have.

What a terrible map of Europa. All islands are apparently independent countries, and why is Kosovo part of Montenegro?

Hate to break your bubble Marton but Hungary along with a lot of Eastern Europe benefit massively from the EU. Due to the way they spend their budget.

As for me, to hell with the EU. UK will be out soon enough because most of the media has raped and pillaged it in the UK, so any referendum is a definite leave vote.

Even a businessman worth 650 million wants to leave and hates the organisation.

It's bad for the people of Britain, because our government seems to think it represents people halfway across the world rather than our own (Surprising from a socialist government in particular), bad for business and bad for the nation in general.

It's a National Health Service - Not an EHS. It took billions of pounds to establish from taxpayers and I do not think it is fair that people who have paid in for decades suffer because people from other nations come and get access to it.

People don't migrate to the UK because they want to make the UK better. They migrate because of the libertarian government, free healthcare, welfare state and higher wages.

HOWEVER limited and skilled immigration is good. But the damage done by the EU is irreversible and I will always hate it.

I was just thinking this. Are we talking a more democratic approach (i.e, general referendums rather than a couple of hundred or so people making decisions on behalf of millions) or a more anarchic structure? Because to be perfectly honest the former is plagued with the possibility of a low turnout and the latter is plain idiocy.

The EU robs the European people of real democracy.

Many of Bloom and Farage's speeches are brilliant and address the issue perfectly.
