Other Games / "Festung Europa" by Jackboot Games (Darkest Hour 2!)
« on: July 03, 2013, 04:38:20 am »

The developers behind the Darkest Hour mod for Red Orchestra: 1939 - 1945 are currently working on their next game based on CryEngine 3. They've committed to create the successor to Darkest Hour, this time as a standalone game. "Festung Europa" is primarily based in the Commonwealth sector of the Normandy invasion front and will feature fierce and realistic combined arms first person combat between the units that were there on large and detailed maps.

It's in early alpha still and they honestly pick up many things from the community with every voice heard! I've offered advice on there myself and seen it applied in some of the dev update screenshots.

Historical Reenactment / What's your next buy?
« on: June 18, 2013, 08:21:18 pm »
Part of being a reenactor is having to buy and collect historical weapons, uniforms, equipment, and personal items. You can say it's a never ending process of buying items for your "kit" and then researching and wanting to do another impression which requires different items.

There's a few people in the hobby I know personally who have HUGE collections and more impressions than you can shake a stick at.

Be sure to post links to whatever it is you want to buy if it's on the web and post pictures of your items when they come in!

To start off, a good blanket buy for me right now are some German lowboots. Simple, and I can wear them for both WWI and WWII. However, the price is outside of my range for right now so I'm looking into getting some other low cost items.

M1907 issue shirt was used up until the middle of WWII, replaced with a collared gray shirt with or without chest pockets.

Then I would also want a collar bind for my early war tunic. This made it so the wool wouldn't rub and irritate your neck. Men often used small scarves as replacements.

I figured everyone would have their own wishlist hidden away until money was there to spend.

Clans / [ARMA2:I44] 3./Pz-Aufk-Abt.116 "Windhund"
« on: March 20, 2013, 08:37:44 pm »

The 3./Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 116 "Windhund" is a virtual re-enactment group as well as a research and study group. Our members are always striving to learn more about the daily lives of the average German Landser during the Second World War as well as the study of the tactics that he employed on the battlefield. The 3./Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 116 "Windhund" is a highly motivated and professional group of 20+ members who have been continually active since 2006 as a German Realism unit in Red Orchestra: Ostfront and Darkest Hour 1944-45. We are now turning to Invasion 44 to give us the opportunity to further the level of realism and immersion in our impression. We bring with us a wealth of knowledge and experience that we believe is easily applicable to this game and engine, and within a few weeks of adjustment, we want to actively engage with the existing community here. We would like to arrange regular, competitive, player v player scenarios with allied units.

Recruitment

The 3./Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 116 "Windhund" is accepting recruits aged eighteen and above into its ranks. All individuals wishing to join are required to fill out an application on the unit forums. All successful applicants will then be assigned to a training gruppe. Please note that at present the 3./Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 116 "Windhund" will only be accepting a limited number of recruits. So if you are interested, do not delay. Make contact with me via the forum PM function on here or register on the unit forums. All potential applicants who are looking to join a Neo-Nazi, or likewise fascist type organization will not find it here and will not be accepted, so there is no need to apply!

It is currently organised and equipped as a mid 1944 leichte Aufklärungskompanie mit leichter gl.Pkw. u. Lkw. 3t,offen, gl. (mounted in Kubelwagens and Opal Blitz 3-ton trucks).

Historical Reenactment / Your first reenactment
« on: March 05, 2013, 04:18:51 am »
I recommend adding in your first, any pictures, and describe it. If you do multiple time periods or impressions, talk about your first time doing those.

I think this is one of my earliest reenactments I actually went with my dad to. Upstate NY. I'm on the right and my brother is on the left. This was before the cool HJ uniforms were available. Fucking spoiled brats today. I envy them. >:c I can only guess, but I think this was taken during Jan or Feb of '03.

My first time doing WWII where I actually went into battle. This was at Sully Plantation, a living history in Northern VA not too far from Dulles Airport, I think. ME262's flying overhead we joked about. I'm in the center and my brother is on my left with my father on my right. I was doing Fallschirmjäger as an Unteroffizer. Doc Martens as jump boots and some other "falsch"ie goodness. But for the most part I look OK. This was during the summer of '09.

First time doing Heer at a living history right across from where I went to elementary for 3rd grade. Hartwood, VA. Still wearing the Docs and everything I'm wearing is loaner. Bad 60s post-war gemaschen as well. Summer of '11.

First time doing WWI with a loaner helmet and tunic. I'm still trying to fix myself up. Have my own tunic and a 1918 helmet I plan on replacing with a M16 and also getting a pickelhaube. This was taken at Newville, PA in the spring of '12. In a night raid managed to fight and sneak my way to the Allied command bunker and "take out" the command staff. Walked in and had a beer with them, commander was impressed so wrote me a recommendation, made it back to friendly lines safe and turned it in to the German commander. I'll be getting some sort of award when I get voted in my unit. EKII or Württemberg Cross or something.

This was a living history at White Oak Church in VA. This was right after my first event in Gettysburg which I don't have pictures of. Except my first event I was wearing everything my brother was wearing and the kepi on my youngest brother I still wear now. I still have nightmares about having everything I wore being too small. Still need to replace my kepi, which is too small for my head. xD
