A synthetic feder sort of defeats the point of a feder. Just get a synthetic longsword and move onto a steel feder if you're with a group that trains with them.

On a reenactment topic: Some buys I made from traders at the 750th anniversary of Evesham, just for living history stuff. Sorry about potato quality, I took it in bad lighting.

Thought I'd pop back on here to share how my impression's coming along, so here I am on the left flank of the 750th anniversary of Evesham.

It's entirely my own stuff except the maille, which I borrowed to properly portray an armoured sergeant. The red cross is because we're fighting for Lord Edward (later Edward I) not because we're medics. I also got some nice things for living history there, which I'll stick in the buying things thread.

I die when someone hits me and I think 'yeah that would probably do me in'

In multi-group battles I die when I'm on the verge of wanting to legit hurt someone.
Once some guy jammed a spear into me about an inch from my junk so I decided I'd better go down instead of finding and nutting them.
Hahahahaha XD

I have no idea if they just weren't aiming well or whether they thought/were told it was the best place to go for.

All I know is there are a lot of nerves down there.

I have become Europoor and cannot buy things :(

no more government money, still in full time education so can't get a job

Will be getting a heater shield soon though, looking at getting a maille hauberk this year, but it seems I'll have to go at least 3 shows without it.

For Olaf, this is me last year. Based on gear I'm probably a levvied soldier who owns either 100 shillings worth of land or 20 marks worth of cattle.

Here's a page from the Maciejowski bible for reference.

It's in like 10 different books. The casualties were probably exaggerated but there is evidence of a battle.

Of course, books. No-one who writes a book could make anything up, especially not when the original report surfaced 59 years after the alleged event - which also directs readers to the presumably made up Austrian Military Magazine of 1831 for a full account of the battle (not found, I might add).

The first 'source' of the battle from 1843 is considerably different to the modern version of events as well. Liars stories tend to change and become embellished.

Allegedly the Real-Zeitung reports an incident which caused 150 dead camp followers, which I wouldn't be able to read because I don't know German.
Not exactly a battle by any stretch of the imagination, if that event even happened. If the Real-Zeitung source doesn't detail anything, then that means there is no contemporary, native language documentation from a very well documented era of history.

Furthermore, battle sites tend to leave archaeological evidence, especially when we're lead to believe that the Austrian's just left the 10,000 dead and wounded on the field, and that there was a lot of blue-on-blue cannon fire, which tends to leave things like cannonballs and shells about the place.

i.e. It didn't happen. It was made up to sell some hack's book.

Who the fuck even thinks Hussars would buy alcohol from Gypsies?

ITT: "Facts"

Discounting things that are technically parts of World Wars (Eastern Front and Sino-Japanese) it's like, 6 to 4 (WW1, WW2, Timur's conquests, Russian Civil War)
Can make a case that the Mongol Conquests don't count because they weren't exclusively fought in China as well.

Also the people who think there was actually a Battle of Karánsebes probably need to be put in a 'special class'

If it's from the Peninsular and after 1812 then it's highly likely that the officers depicted just hadn't bought regulation shakos yet, so they kept wearing their old bicornes.

There was basically no way to enforce these new regulations on troops that had been in Spain for the past few years, after all.
