Grills detected

They should teach you how to actually shoulder the musket first. You just look ridiculous with the buttplate hanging in air near your bicep.

One thing I see a lot of with people firing is them leaning back as well. For god sake lean into the shot! That way if it does recoil a lot you won't go flying as you're braced for it rather than inviting a kick in the shoulders and a flight backwards!
What's everyone's thoughts on flash guards? We don't to use them as they look stupid. It's a simple case of angle your lock so the person stood next to you doesn't get their face melted off! It happened to me at hoogstraten, the guy next to me didn't angle and burnt my face. Nothing too bad though! But continued hits bloody hurts (nearly floored someone who didn't do it at all during Waterloo 196 in 2011)

Aww thanks Cenkris for those kind words

Just use flashguards, It's in the rules of most events and in our dutch law even.

They have practical use and are more safe, even safer than angling your guns, because as you said, not everyone always does it.

They must've had a way of doing it back in the day.

It was called 'Officers not giving shits' and 'only having battles once every few months'.

And yet, I got nice fragments into my face and my left eye in Willhemstein, even though the guy had a flashguard...

I've had some minor burns in my neck after Hoogstraten but really nothing major.

Oh and call me a sissy, but I always use earplugs when I go into battle.

Exactly. So it is not like Flashguards are always safe. You still need to look out.

I think Duuring will do that soon too. I accidentally, because I did not think, shot a musket right next to his ear.

If I had taken one step forward you'd have burned my hair off, I swear.

I usually wore earplugs but I'm starting to doubt it's effectiveness.

It is probably just me, but the stuff doesn't seem to be that loud to me. It is loud, but not that loud.

But then again, I didn't hear a musket being shot right next to my ear. (im sorry casper)

Nearly everyone does it firing whatever weapon. see it a lot in archery too. Think it's a false feeling of balancing for the heavy object in your hands.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.
