I have a questions what will the officer have to defend himself in melee as I see in the earlier update of French officer he has a sword but when I watched diplex's video I did not see any sword or a bayonet to act as a small sword  by his side so are officers just going to be armed with a pistol as there weapon? As I know swords were out of commission at this point in the war and in fact most if not all cav men had handed in there swords as they were getting rusted in the trenches and they had no need for them (British army this is don't know about the others think French were the same)

They will defend themselves with an automatic pistol which is intended to be used at close range - officers aren't supposed to engage in melee fights.

Got this from HM Armed Forces

Today The National Archives is making thousands of digitised First World War unit war diaries from France and Flanders available online.

The unit war diaries are among the most popular records from our First World War collection (file series WO 95) and the first in a series of First World War records to be digitised as part of our centenary programme - First World War 100.

Trying out this "operation war diary" thing to tag documents, trying to read this writing is giving me a right headache. Regardless there is a bit of info, the page i'm looking at is about a unit mobilising and going to southampton.

The fact that you did not use dots made it really hard for me to read your post.

The fact that you called periods "dots" made it really hard for me to read your post.
it seems that the person on the wrong end of 5arge always seems to get the punishment.
