TLDR:
Event has been canceled due to damage to my home by Hurricane Irma.

    • There is a weekly prize of $10 - $20 for the team leader that wins.
    • Half CTF, Half siege, long respawn time.
    • Admins cannot impose rules on the enemy with their powers.
    • Officers will take formal credit, and will receive formal blame.
    • Enlisted can review the officers and make new records for them.
All registrations are to be done on the Steam discussion board within the NDI community. This topic on the FSE event forum is for questions, suggestions, and criticism.

Introduction
Are you tired of wasting time on biased administrators with interpretive rules in their safe spaces? Are your leaders greedy for kills, while micromanaging and blaming others when they fail? Are you frustrated about trolls that cheat the system? Is your regiment getting teamkilled with impunity? Do you want something more rewarding than tournaments? This event is an attempt to reanimate the community of M&B:NW with WEEKLY cash prizes and minimally intrusive regulations. The event will be scheduled for 8PM EST on a MONDAY, ONLY AFTER 8 platoon registrations have been activated. It will continue for 12 weeks after that point.

Each officer will register his platoon in the NDI discussion tab to create his permanent record. The actions of his followers will reflect upon his record. This is the platoon registry: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/napoleonicdrillinstructors/discussions/2/

During the draft, we allow two officers to be "team captains" and pick their 3 supporting platoons from the representatives that are present in the EVENT Teamspeak server. Officer records are behaviorally representative and will assist the captains in strategic selection.

During the briefing, the team captains and one of sergeants will be given the admin password to set up the server. They will set respectful rules for their allies, but not the enemy. Adminstrators may not handicap the enemy in any way.

During the game, the sergeants will collect evidence of any allied action that hurts their unit. The first half of the event is a CTF with buildpoints and a 10 minute respawn timer. The second half is a siege map, with the previous winner as the attacker and a 10 min respawn timer.

During debriefing, the enlisted will be allowed to review their officers. All officers will be subject to a permanent record, but the leader of the victorious team will receive a token that can be redeemed to me for $10-$20 USD via paypal. The prize amount is inversely proportional to the time elapsed.

This event has the following goals:
• To develop efficient communication.
• To establish meaningful leadership roles.
• To reward the accountability of the officers.
• To delegate responsibility to the sergeants.
• To reach out to the public about linebattles.

The path of the officer:
Spoiler
Your role as an officer is to make decisions that are accounted toward your permanent record. Your commission as an officer within the NDI community is the permanent record. Specific attributes of your performance as an officer will be recorded for peer-judgement and team drafting purposes. This allows for all registered officers to have complete and transparent sovereignty over their units. You can deny orders from other officers and sanction a team kill, but it will be recorded. Additional records will be added at the suggestion of the enlisted. Here is a link to the definitions of our records:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/napoleonicdrillinstructors/discussions/1/1291816826773429835/

The goal of the officer is to participate as team captain of an event and win the weekly cash prize. Only officers are eligible to be selected as team captain.

The formal record holds all officers accountable for:
• Operational victory and defeat
• Denying a captain's orders
• Subordinates and their TKs
• Unit attendance
• Deserters in their unit
• Unit conduct

Additionally, we want team captains to be accountable for:
• Strategic victory and defeat
• Encouraging inter-regiment cooperation.
• The players they slay
• All allied casualties
• Promoting positive social regulations

The path of the enlisted:
Spoiler
Your role as a ranker is to follow orders and review them. Enlisted players do not have records because they must follow orders. ALL of your behaviors will reflect upon your officer's account. If you don’t like what your officer is doing, you can file an anonymous complaint, suggest new records to be imposed upon them, or find another officer within this community. All rankers can register with multiple officers, just as long as they play with the tags of the officer that has them registered. If you become a sergeant, then you become limited to only one active registration. Players with no tags or unregistered tags must be kicked without warning. Additional records will be added at the suggestion of the enlisted during debriefing.  Here is a list of the current records and their definitions:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/napoleonicdrillinstructors/discussions/1/1291816826773429835/

Your role as a sergeant is to represent the best interests of your subordinates by policing your rankers and monitoring your officers. This is done by collecting evidence of violations within or upon your unit. The most experienced sergeants are capable of fulfilling all of their officer's responsibilities, meanwhile keeping accountability on their officer. The actions of imposters are reflected upon the officer that the stolen tags represent, but sergeants are made responsible for inspections to prevent disruptions.

The goal of the enlisted is to become a sergeant and participate as 1st sergeant of a team within an event. The 1st sergeant will receive the event admin password, but his actions will reflect on his officers account. Only sergeants are eligible to be 1st sergeant.

The officers hold sergeants responsible for:
• Promoting officer decisions.
• Collecting evidence of teamkills upon your unit.
• Enforcing attendance.
• Giving orders to your unit.

Additionally, we want 1st sergeants to be responsible for:
• Collecting evidence of regiments that are absent.
• Collecting evidence of officers that are insubordinate.
• Collecting evidence of regiments that desert the event.
• Administrating under the captain's account.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

1. Register:

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/napoleonicdrillinstructors/discussions
There are no fees to register! Officers will POST a discussion thread at the link and wait for activation. Activation occurs when your registration has passed inspection according to the guidelines below. When activated, your post will be locked and updated with your records. Changes to your roster after activation will require administrator assistance. The event will be scheduled after 8 platoon registrations have been activated. It will continue for 12 weeks after that point. The registration options are as follows:

Officers:
POST your platoon registration in our discussion boards with your platoon name as the title. Also include your regiment affiliation, game list, names of 2 to 4 sergeants, accountability agreement, your in-game name, and any other pertinent information. Every officer in your regiment will need to post their own platoon.

Sergeants:
COMMENT under the officer that vouches for you to register your squad. Write your squad name, the names 11 to 15 rankers, responsibility agreement, your in-game name, and any other pertinent information in your comment.

Soldiers:
ASK a sergeant to write your name in his comment. His officer must approve. You can also be registered under multiple platoons.

Since frequent cash prizes are a cornerstone of our events, these rules are subject to change:
1. Registrations are processed by platoon only.
2. Platoons CAN NOT exceed 1 officer, 4 sergeants, 60 rankers.
3. Officers CAN NOT have multiple platoons.
4. Officers WILL be held accountable for the actions of their players.
5. Sergeants CAN NOT register under multiple platoons.
6. Sergeants CAN switch platoons by updating their registration.
7. Rankers CAN be registered under multiple platoons.
8. In-game/teamspeak names MUST match registrations.
9. Activation requires at least 1 officer, 2 sergeants, and 22 rankers.
10. Prize money is awarded only to the registered officer that won as acting captain.

2. Draft:

The first 2 registered officers to enter the EVENT TeamSpeak at 7PM EST will select the captains for each team. The selected captains may not be affiliated. Officers must remain in the EVENT channel with their microphones activated within the EVENT TeamSpeak. Their sergeants can join the EVENT channel, but their microphone must be activated in their own TeamSpeak server. Officers can only use voice communication with sergeants and other officers.

Team captains will take turns drafting their 3 supporting platoons, making use of their records in the NDI registry to influence their decision. Platoons will be exactly 25 players: 1 officer, 2 sergeants, 22 rankers. There will be 4 platoons in each team. Each platoon is represented by its officer and he must be present in the EVENT TeamSpeak. Winners of a previous event can choose an available specialty role within the team that they are placed. The previous victory must be substantiated to be eligible for specialty role selection. These are the 4 roles:

○ Cavalry: Support
○ Guard/Artillery: Specialist
○ Skirmishers/Rifles: Offense
○ Line: Defense

3. Briefing:

Team captains and their 1st sergeant will receive an admin password. Admins will set the server to MAP NAME under team deathmatch, with TK DISABLED until 8pm. During this time, it is suggested that both teams carry out an inspection formation.

The 1st sergeant of each team will receive the admin password to help enforce their team captain's agenda. At this time, they are instructed to collect evidence of groups that are AWOL. All 1st sergeant administrator actions are reflected on the captain's account. Team Captains will explain their rules of engagement to their officers before 8pm. No resets allowed after 8pm.

Admins will set to CTF with 30 min time limit, 10 min respawn, TK ENABLED. If there is no winner, the event ends as a draw.
The server-side class limits are as follows:
○ Cavalry: 25%
○ Guard/Artillery: 25%
○ Skirmishers/Rifles: 25%
○ Line: 25%
○ 1 officer
○ 2 sergeants
○ 1 musician
○ 1 flagbearer

4. Play:

After the briefing, admins must change the server password before the event starts (this prevents bushpirates and glitchspawning midgame.) Players are not allowed to reconnect to the game; they are to be marked as deserters. Admins are forbidden to use admin powers EXCEPT to slay insubordinate teammates, or to kick unregistered players. Team captains are allowed to slay anyone on their team for any reason. Even officers can be slayed for disobeying, but there is no guarantee that his unit will obey, even if you slay them one by one.

The 1st sgt will collect evidence of insubordination with a sound recording. That recording will be applied to the insubordinate officer's report.

Other sergeants are instructed to collect the evidence of infractions against their unit, such as a screenshot of a slay or teamkill.

The winner of the previous CTF round will be attacker in a SIEGE map, with 30 min time limit, 10 min respawn.

5. Debriefing:

When the event finishes, EVERYONE MUST STAY UNTIL DEBREIFING FINISHES, OR YOU WILL BE MARKED AS A DESERTER. All participating officer records are updated during this time. Additionally, the enlisted can review their officers and suggest new records to be imposed upon them.

The captains will instruct their 1st sgt to collect evidence for the deserter report that will be applied to their officers. The victorious captain will instruct his 1st sgt to collect evidence of victory. Other officers will instruct their sergeants to collect the evidence for the casualty report that will be applied to that captain.

Finally, after the victorious captain has completely substantiated his victory to me, he will take a "Token" from the defeated captain. He then has the choice of saving or redeeming his tokens.

If the victory was quick and decisive, then the token value will be $20 USD for that day.
If the victory was long and costly, then the token value will be $10 USD for that day. He can redeem up to 2 tokens a day, and can receive the prize through Paypal or Steam card.

The defeated captain cannot redeem tokens for that day. If he falls to -3 tokens, we will suspend that commission for a month, and then restore it to 0 after the suspension.

~~TLDR:
THIS IS NOT A REGIMENT!!! This is a group of regiments and soldiers that want to learn about authentic, idiot-proof marching.  OFFICERS ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR SUBORDINATES!!! However, sergeants are responsible for those subordinates. NOBODY WILL DISRESPECT YOU, DO NOT DISRESPECT OTHERS!!! We learn, practice, and discuss how formations work through sponsored events. The event is undergoing its first draft and will have a weekly prize of $10-$20.

~~MISSION
This is a leadership academy for different regiments, not a regiment or boot camp experience! Anyone can register as an officer! We educate players and existing groups about DRILL PROCEDURE, LEADERSHIP, and THE APPLICATION OF FORMATIONS. Our goal is to improve COMMUNICATION within online communities. We use teamplay video games and frequent cash prizes to provide a fun experience. NDI is organized by Zude, a former USAF Auxiliary C/MSgt and SAR instructor.

~~CHAIN OF COMMAND
Soldiers can pick their sergeant. Each sergeant reports to one officer. Every officer will have a permanent record. This approach shows the distinction between accountability and responsibility.
Squads are led by sergeants using direct leadership. They deal with people, so they drill the squad most of the time. Sergeants must relay and promote the ideas of the officer to their subordinates. Sergeants can argue with the officer in secret, but they cannot deny the order. They are responsible but not accountable for the attendance, safety, and discipline of their platoon.

Platoons are led by lieutenants that use mostly indirect leadership. They deal with decisions, so they should always lead indirectly through their sergeants. They can assume direct leadership at the cost of cognitive ability. They are allowed to deny company orders because they are accountable for the attendance, safety, and discipline of their squads.

A company is led by a captain that uses indirect leadership. Captains are responsible for directing communication between platoon officers. He is accountable for the results of his mission, and the cooperation/survival of all platoons.

~~HOW TO PARTICIPATE

(Step 1. Registration.)
Join this steam group and use the group's discussion boards. Choose your role by following the steps below. You may switch roles if you delete your previous registration.
    Officers:
    • POST your platoon registration in our discussion boards. Every officer in your regiment will need to post their own platoon. Platoons cannot have multiple officers or exceed 4 sergeants. You are held accountable for their actions.
    Sergeants:
    • COMMENT under the officer that vouches for you to register your squad. Write the names of 15 trusted subordinates in your comment.
    Soldiers:
    • ASK a sergeant to register you in his comment. His officer must approve.

(Step 2. Participation.)
Rally your platoon and wait for the announcement. Platoons will be exactly 25 players: 1 officer, 2 sergeants, 22 rankers. There will be 4 platoons in each team. One officer in each team will be captain. His sergeant will be 1st sergeant.

Our academy event will operate by holding captains accountable for the game. In Teamspeak, the team officers will be in one room together where they can discuss company strategy and whisper directives to their sergeants.

The sergeants will have their own rooms with their soldiers so they can communicate freely.[/list]
