The Mess Hall / Re: Gay-Straight Alliance Thread
« on: December 10, 2013, 06:01:35 pm »
I see no way to continue this fruitless debate taking into account Duuring's pathetic attempt at harassing, but most importantly due to the fact that this thread is protected by SeanBeansShako, which surely can end in mutes against anyone who raises a voice of opposition against homosexuality in this thread. Sorry to disappoint you, Torn. I'm pretty sure we all would have enjoyed another wall text of mine, but from now on I will think it twice before sneaking in a debate in a forum where only one side of the spectrum is allowed. It was a pleasure.  :-*

Bismarck, there's no reason to think that it is a learned behaviour like that, and even if it isn't in,nature (not going to argue with you about that right now) so what? Humans have a lot of behaviour that isn't seen elsewhere in animals, but I dont see you arguing against marriage itself, democracy, or science. Just because it isn't in nature doesn't mean its bad.

And please don't call us libtards, lets keep this a friendly discussion, we don't want this thread shut down.

It can be a learned behaviour, actually. Homosexuality is a result of social, environmental, cultural and personal influences; just like most other aspects of our being. Most of homosexuals had same sex experiences conciously or unconciously that has motivated their choices. It is only a case of misguided upbring and making self centred decisions that leads an individual to be homosexual.

Spoiler
It is not that now homosexuality is publicly accepted that everyone is going to be gay.
In the long term holebi's will always be a minority of the population. I think it will hardly change the birthrate since homosexuals adopt babies and lesbians adopt or go to the spermbank. As for the dolphins, It is knows that some male dolphins are partners for life and care for eachother. While sometimes the temporarly meet up with a female to make sure there is off-spring but after that's over they go back being gay and fabulous together.

Sure, they adopt babies that straight couples made. Adopting isn't a way to reproduce, just if you hadn't noticed. There is no question as to whether homosexuality is more wide spread and prevalent in modern times. The reason for this is that its presented as what is it, a choice. Young children growing up are presented with option A or option B. They are bombarded with images of same sex couples engaging in these actions before they can even properly comprehend their own gender. Heterosexuality itself is confusing enough for a young child, add homosexuality into the mix and its inevitable that some of them will make the wrong choice.

Bismarck, are you unemployed or something? You are pretty active on a forum, especially considering it's the middle of the day were you live.  ::)

Yeah, I am. This is the part where you go to personal insults to win an argument, right?  :-\

If you do your research you will notice that homosexuality was labelled as a disorder up until the 1970s and was only changed due to mounting political pressure to change it, and not because science deemed it natural.

Natural as in nature? As in the more then 1500 species that are known to have homosexual relationships, ranging from birds to dolphins?  :P

Them dolphins, so hipster.

We would be hypocritical if we said that loving someone of your own gender is OK but necrophilia, incest, or beastiality is wrong

Not really. (Age of) consult is pretty much the golden standard in that. Incest might slip trough that, but we must remember that incest was perfectly acceptable until into the late 19th century and in some parts of the world still is. I sure am no fan of it, but what do I care if two people want to fuck?

"But Duuring, any possible child is sure to be handicaped!"
True, but as far as I know, there's no rule against people with (a high change of) mental handicaps, born-with diseases or even HIV to make kids.

Bismarck, I feel that you look only at the sexual part of gay relationships. Try to put some more focus on the relationship thing.

Yeah, well, that's just a myth. Properly speaking, homosexuality does not exist among animals.... For reasons of survival, the reproductive instinct among animals is always directed towards an individual of the opposite sex. Therefore, an animal can never be homosexual as such. Nevertheless, the interaction of other instincts (particularly dominance) can result in behavior that appears to be homosexual. Such behavior cannot be equated with an animal homosexuality. All it means is that animal sexual behavior encompasses aspects beyond that of reproduction. Although homosexual behavior is very common in the animal world, it seems to be very uncommon that individual animals have a long-lasting predisposition to engage in such behavior to the exclusion of heterosexual activities. Thus, a homosexual orientation, if one can speak of such thing in animals, doesn't exist.

Of course I'm only looking at the sexual part of homosexual relationships, since I'm only arguing that it isn't natural. As long as you libtards accept that fact, there's nothing else to be argued against homosexuality, due to that my case against it is purely secular. It is not something that gets passed over generations or is inherited from one's genes. It is a kind of repressed sexual behavior one learns from the environment consciously or unconsciously in which one lives. At times it becomes a matter of choice, at others a mere display of reckless and unguided behavior in the shameless disguise of helplessness. I'm no homophobe; I don't endorse their lifestyle, I stay out of it. I treat them better than a lot of the persons I know and provide them with respect without being prompted. I'm not perfect and I don't believe it is my right to judge others.

Oh yeah, homosexuality is beneficial even, due to our planet's overpopulation, but the thing is that it will affect dramatically the birthrate compared to mortality in the future. Sure, feel free to defend it for a couple of decades, but soon after that, the negative effects will be more than noticeable.

I do believe that homosexual behavior can be both created or not. I have known individuals who, because they are simply fed up with their gender, decide to give the opposite gender "a go". Are these feelings something they have a choice in feeling? Absolutely. I also believe that homosexual feelings are desires rooted in some people's heads, but it is still a desire that must be controlled. After all, how could we be civilized if we accepted everyone's desires? We would be hypocritical if we said that loving someone of your own gender is OK but necrophilia, incest, or beastiality is wrong. Society labels those of the aforementioned as 'wrong' and 'disgusting' and expect them to curb their desires, but they can make the same points that homosexuals adore to use: "We can love whomever we want," "who are you to tell me that my love is wrong, it is love" and so on. In conclusion, this issue is mostly political. If you do your research you will notice that homosexuality was labelled as a disorder up until the 1970s and was only changed due to mounting political pressure to change it, and not because science deemed it natural.

Historical Discussion / Re: CSA Independence, Yes or No?
« on: December 08, 2013, 02:21:41 pm »
I understand the feeling of many Southerners, but people must understand that a world where the CSA would have won the war would be a Disunited America. It would be pretty much like the Balkans, where everything is in a state of semi-permanent war. In such a condition, it would be impossible for America (or what was left of it) to rise as a modern superpower. Nevertheless, there's always the chance that in such a theoretical world the States eventually would reunite, after realizing that they can't make it out alone. The North depended from the South's agriculture, and the South depended from the Northern industrial machine. A country can't live of patriotism, which seems to be what many Southerners think. I myself being one, but I strongly believe that we're stronger together. Leave the differences in the past.  :)

Louis C.K and George Carlin are good comedians, but sincerely I can't laugh at something that goes against my beliefs and ideals.

It is supposed to be a ceremonial armor, so it most likely was never used in combat. Nevertheless, it looks incredibly nice.

It looks like 16th century English plate armor, but I can't talk with certainty since I don't have a clue about its origin.
