Awesome Blog! Detail is great. I think sound is such a huge part of games like this - thanks for taking the time to incorporate a variety of cool features.

Looking forward to hearing more about the 20thME!

I actually recorded Fife and Bugle sounds, with me trying to play it. I have no real experience in it, so they sound awful. I also recorded the drum, and I intentially played really bad. The idea is to have special sounds when a non musican picks up a music instruments and wants to play a track. I was even thinking of given them different names, like Yunkii Doddle, or Buttle Crei of Vriidum.

Its going to be great once we implement that.

We updated the first video with a new, better one, as I just fixed some of the sound desync issues that were noticeable in the first one. Enjoy.

Maybe it's just me, but this:
https://youtu.be/xCGNTM8kFw0

Does not sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvJakG-801I at all.

Sure, it's not a full drum corps, sure, the drum riff is not part of the song, but the video from the game? The fifer misses several notes and doesn't seem to keep a steady tempo. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound exactly like "Hell on the Wabash".

Did you expect the band of her majesty's royal marines to show up and record fife and drums or what? I think it sounds fair enough for a preview. Besides, it's already 10 times better than the fife and drum from Holdfast that uses samples with no other articulations than staccato...

Well yeah, like I wrote in the blog, recordings of real musicans has its own up and downsides. It is very expensive and time consuming, and it requires a special setup, as we can not record both drum and fife at the same time.
We also hired a musician, who is more experienced with British Napoleonic tunes. He is self taught and played both the drum and fife in different sessions (again, we can not record them at the same time)
The tunes are not perfect, and we are actually re-recording some of them now, but this is the best we can do for now. I think it is more than acceptable.

Sound quality is good, which is important and most importantly, they are no fifes and drums generated from midi files (Like holdfast), which never miss a note, but sound artificial (because they are :P). Our sounds are actual recording of a proper fife and drum.

Dear developer!

It's nice to read that you're trying to make huge viarieties of songs and calls.
Very important for me, my company and regiment.

As a Civil War Reenactor myself in Europe - I am really into this "Company will fire by music!" command.
Will drummers (I guess I don't have to count buglers) be able to do also calls for commands?
Like:
Assembly, Cease Fire, Make Ready - Take aim - Fire, Load etc.?
Also the same for buglers... there is also a call for fix and unfix bayonets.
There is a nice little collection of these calls:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fvkihdRV5g

 And for buglers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hbfl-afsfLs&t=276s

Because I dont want to use soundpad for everything. ^^

With best regards,
Nohrii and Captain Sargent of the Company G "Bangor Tigers" - 2nd Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment
