The 84th Regiment of Foot (Royal Highland Emigrants) was a British regiment in the American Revolutionary War that was raised to defend present day Ontario, Quebec
and Atlantic Canada from the constant land and sea attacks by American Revolutionaries. The 84th Regiment was also involved in offensive action in the Thirteen Colonies;
including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and what is now Maine, as well as raids upon Lake Champlain and the Mohawk Valley. The regiment consisted of
2,000 men in twenty companies. The 84th Regiment was raised from Scottish soldiers who had served in the Seven Years' War and stayed in North America. As a result, the
84th Regiment had one of the oldest and most experienced officer corps of any regiment in North America. The Scottish Highland regiments were a key element of the British
Army in the American Revolution. The 84th Regiment was clothed, armed and accoutred the same as the Black Watch, with Lieutenant Colonel Allan Maclean commanding the
first battalion and Major General John Small of Strathardle commanding the second. The two Battalions operated independently of each other and saw little action together.

Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge, North Carolina

Members of the 84th Highland Regiment were in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge,
North Carolina, in early 1776. On 27 February 1776, the 84th Regiment, with a number
of new recruits, was marching to the port of Wilmington, North Carolina. There they
were to join with a force arriving from Europe and participate in operations in the
southern colonies. The recruited force, at first numbering 1,600 American Loyalists but
reduced during the march by desertions to fewer than 800, faced off against 1,000
American Patriots. The American Loyalists' movement was blocked by Patriot forces on
two occasions, but the Loyalists managed to bypass them to reach the bridge over
Widow Moore's Creek. Captain McLeod, who had survived the Battle of Bunker Hill,
was killed leading the charge at Moore's Creek Bridge. Half of the regiment was
captured and thirty were killed; with ninety six officers and men taken prisoner. The
majority of the Carolina recruits were never able to join the regiment since the Loyalist
forces were scattered after the battle.

Military operations – Quebec

Under McLean's command, the First Battalion acted primarily to defend Quebec from
American Patriot forces. It marched from Quebec in an attempt to repel Brigadier General
Richard Montgomery's invasion in the Siege of Fort St. Jean, Quebec. The regiment made
two attempts to relieve the fort, but eventually returned to Quebec, where it helped to
stiffen the resolve of the civil population until Carleton's return from Montreal.

The regiment was also involved in the Battle of Quebec. Montgomery and Benedict Arnold,
who led an expedition through the wilderness of what is now Maine, combined forces and
mounted attack on Quebec City. At a crucial moment in the battle, Captain McDougal led
120 of the 84th and 60 Royal Navy sailors against a force of New Hampshire troops
commanded by Henry Dearborn. They overwhelmed Dearborn's men, forcing the
survivors to surrender.

Battle of the Newcastle Jane, Newfoundland

On October 23, 1776, under Captain Murdock MacLaine, the 84th Regiment was in
the Battle of the Newcastle Jane. This battle was the first in which a merchant British
vessel defeated an American Privateer vessel. The 84th Regiment was on the transport
ship Newcastle Jane off the coast of Cape Race, Newfoundland. Onboard the ship was
20,000 pounds sterling and 3,000 sets of uniforms, much of which was for the 84th
Regiment. On October 23 at 4:00 am American privateer came within 30 yards of the
Newcastle Jane. The American had ten carriage guns and twelve swivel guns and the
Jane had only 6 three-pound carriage guns and a few swivels. The ships opened fire on
each other. After a 24-hour standoff, the 84th Regiment had outmaneuvered the
Americans, leaving them with many wounded and a damaged vessel. By the time the
battle was over, the Newcastle Jane only had two rounds of shot left.

Lachlan Macquarie

One of the crew in the Battle of the Newcastle Jane was a young recruit Lachlan
Macquarie, who eventually became known as "the Father of Australia." Macquarie
began his military career in 1776 at the age of fourteen when he sailed from Scotland
to the New World. The attackers were repulsed and, six months later, on 9 April 1777,
he obtained an ensigncy in the 84th Regiment. He did garrison duty, first in Nova Scotia,
and then in New York and Charleston.

He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 71st Regiment in January 1781. In 1784 he
returned to Scotland from his posting in Jamaica, and was reduced to half-pay.

Siege of Saint John (1777)

Machias, Maine was used as a base for privateering against Nova Scotia and as a
staging and supply point for American Patriot attacks on Fort Frederick, Saint John and
Fort Cumberland. In 1776, privateers from Machias had burned Fort Frederick at Saint
John to the ground. In 1777, American forces briefly controlled Saint John. In response,
Major John Small personally led a force to drive out the Americans. When the 84th
Regiment landed at Saint John on June 30, 1777, the Americans retreated to the woods.
The 84th marched through the woods and were ambushed by the American. Twelve
Americans and one member of the regiment were killed. Weeks later, on July 13, 1777,
American privateers again attacked Saint John and were repulsed by the 84th. In August
1777, the Americans attacked yet again and were successful, carrying off 21 boatloads
of plunder. The 84th immediately began to replace the low-lying Fort Frederick with Fort
Howe, which overlooked the settlement. Fort Howe became instrumental in curtailing
privateer action and was used as an assembly point for attacks on the 13 Colonies.

Raid on Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia

On September 4, 1778, the 84th Regiment, under the command of Ranald
MacKinnon, was in the Raid of Cape Sable Island. Privateers were threatening Cape
Sable Island when the 84th arrived; they surprised the ship in the night and
destroyed it. For his aggressive action, MacKinnon was praised highly by Brigadier
General Eyre Massey. In response, one of his friends, Captain MacDonald, wrote to
Major John Small, "McKinnon was embarrassed by the praise of the General and
requested it not be inserted in the record since he only did his duty."

Southern theatre

Upon leaving New York, the Second Battalion, 84th Regiment was engaged
in the Southern theatre of the American Revolutionary War. The Southern theater
was the central area of operations in the second half of the American Revolutionary
War. During the first three years of the conflict, the primary military encounters
had been in the north, focused on campaigns around the cities of Boston, New York,
and Philadelphia. Earlier in the war, the 2/84th Regiment was involved in trying to
take Charleston, South Carolina, in the Battle of Sullivan's Island.

On June 24, companies of the 2/84th Regiment from Boston and New York left their
ports to descend upon Fort Sullivan (later renamed Fort Moultrie), South Carolina.
Four days later the 84th Regiment from New York, on June 28, 1776, engaged in the
Battle of Fort Sullivan (see Fort Moultrie National Monument). The fleet bombarded
the fort and suffered excessive damage by return fire. The attack was a failure; 38
of the regiment died.

The 2/84th Regiment was involved in a skirmish at Wiboo Swamp, Savannah River,
Clarendon County, South Carolina (1781). 3 of the 84th Regiment were killed as
were about 18 American Patriots.

The 2/84th Regiment was then involved in protecting the Loyalist stronghold of
Augusta, Georgia. The first skirmish was at Wiggin's Hill, Savannah River, Georgia,
in April 1781. The Patriots surprised the regiment at Wiggin's Hill, but were twice
repulsed. The 84th then took prisoners, killed many of them and burned their homes.
Captain McKinnon tried to stop what he considered his own regiments "barbarity".

The 84th was also involved with trying to protect Fort Motte in the Siege of Fort Motte,
Georgia (1781). The 2/84th Regiment was forced to surrender on May 12 and were
taken prisoner.

April-June
Hey everyone thanks for voting me back in.

Week 1:

The community is still going strong which is honestly amazing to see after almost a decade of this. Everyone is playing bannerlord and Nws population is going down a little bit but still holding strong. congratulations to the LG for winning the recent Intercontinental League and thank you to wastee for hosting the Pit Weekly gf.

A special thank you to Copot for his Monday Event, Moraine for his Wednesday Event, Jetch & NickJ for their Friday Event, Shrooms for his Saturday Event, and Kitty for his Sunday Siege Event. Without all of you taking the time out of your days to organize and host theses events we might be bring 150+ people per events. As well as a big thank you to the countless regiments who are out there still trying to grow and give a place for people to come and enjoy public events! You've all kept the community going.

Personally I don't believe I can change the community in anyway, all I can do is give my suggestions and help hosters & regiments where I can. I recommend posting in the BBG discord if you're looking to recruit for NW or Bannerlord. We get a lot of traffic through the discord and a good amount of regiments post in our recruitment page. If you're looking to making a Bannerlord Clan then post a thread in their new board The Clan Hall If you'd like any help making one just let me know!

So for this term I will be looking to help NW regiments port over to Bannerlord, give my support to regiments to help keep up recruitment, and to event hosters if they need any help what so ever.

The Release of Bannerlord

Since bannerlord is now opened to the public and in early access a lot of regiments are porting over to the game and starting their new clans. But since at the moment we cannot buy our own servers and there are no official event servers many of course are still attending NW events. The pub events have been running on their own for a long time now and are of course very stable. I'll still reach out to them and see if they need any help with anything.

On the topic of Bannerlord it self.

I know a lot of people are hesitant to buy the game due to mix reviews. Currently everyone is having mixed results with performance, some people are having little issues and for some the game is unplayable. For those who haven't bought the game yet I will say this. If you have a low end system or are running Windows 7 don't expect to play the game very well. But You do have to find out for yourself how it'll run on your specs. You may be wondering why Windows 7? Well there have been a lot of issues with the game running on windows 7, most commonly you cannot login to multiplayer. They have released a patch which has helped some with this issue but didn't help for everyone. Low tier systems can run mulitplayer alright, myself I have an 8th gen i5U with an MX150 & 8Gbs of ram and I can run the siege gamemode (60v60) with 30-40 fps. The campaign is super buggy and isn't running well currently so I'd hold off of buying the game is that's all you want.

Taleworlds has been making really great progress since the release a few days ago. They have been reading the forum(which I highly recommend reading through) taking in a lot of bugs and glitches. They've released two patches already addressing dozens of issues. https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?threads/patch-notes-e1-0-2.400897/

I'd say buy the game and see how it runs and then wait for updates I know a ton of NW players have already sunk 24+ hours into the game. If you're short on money or just can't bring yourself to pay the price of a game that may not run there no problem there. Don't buy the game if you don't want to. You won't be missing out on much other than getting used to the new mechanics.

Events: NA / NRP/BBG Campaign Event 2.0(starts March 14th)
« on: February 19, 2020, 03:44:28 am »
Introduction

After our previous NA campaign being a resounding success The NRP/BBG campaign 2.0 is here! The NRP/BBG Campaign 2.0 is based on a fictional war scenario which serves as a simplified conflict to decide whether made up factions called The Kingdom of Felderburg or The Kingdom of Garland will win gain control of the Campaign map here

With dedicated server admins, these events will be a series of public line battles that have their score tracked. Each battle will determine on board army victories/movements. The faction that defeats the other sides armies, or gains enough "Victory Points" wins!

The BBG / NRP Campaign: What is it?
The NRP/BBG Campaign is essentially a hybrid of public and organised regimental play. NRP has been the largest community of public-driven battle roleplays in the NW Community for several years, providing large scale wargames with enough rules to bring immersion and organisation without the rigid and limited aspect of regimental-based gameplay. Now they have teamed up with BBG to bring this campaign to everyone in North America!~

A Campaign will be set either in a historical or fictional setting, and the players through their actions will be able to decide the outcome.
Every single layer of the Campaign is fully controlled by players, and driven by players.

-Each faction has a Command Structure, which players can apply to become part of
-Command Structures can select generals for specific lines or units, which players can all become
-Each faction has a designated Leader who acts as the go-between for their faction and the admin team

There are victory conditions and mechanics in place to allow for a tactical progression of the campaign based on the outcomes of battles, allowing for an immersive and dynamic experience unparalleled in Napoleonic Wars.

NRP/BBG Campaign Battles: How do they work?
Battles in the NRP/BBG Campaign are similar to those you would see in a typical regimental match, only with adjustments for immersion, fun and breathing room to accommodate the public nature of the server.
Each line is lead by an officer, however there are few limits as to who can join what line beyond the Officer Slot itself. Players are free to pick and choose whatever unit they please, however of course limits are placed on unit allowances for the sake of balance.
Units will then follow their officer and his orders, and the rest is up to the players!
The faction leader chooses his Officers before each event. Often Officers are Public players, or regiment leaders who bring their regiment to the event.

Rules & Guidelines

NRP/BBG In-Game Event Rules
In order for the Campaign events to run as smoothly we have set up rules. These rules go as followed:
Battle Phase Terminology
Not Live - The event has not started yet, or has ended.
Live - The event has started and rounds lost/won will influence the campaign.
All Charge - All players must stop reloading and attack the enemies closest to their position.
In an all charge the admins will remove all ammo leaving muskets with one single shot which may be fired during the all-charge.

Event Rules
- Follow your Officer of the correct class. (Flag-beacon displayed on top of his head due to server scripts)
- All Cav must follow General (Flag-beacon displayed on top of his head due to server scripts)
- If your officer is killed, stay in a group with your Flag Bearer until you find another Officer.

All-Charge Rules
- No Firing a cannon after all-charge is called
- No reloading during an all-charge
- No retreating during an all-charge

Basic Server Rules
- Do not Rambo. (Not following an officer)
- No spamming in-chat
- No BP waste/sapper spam or waste of BP

Public Play Rules
- Crouching is allowed
- Firing in charge is allowed(Ammo will be removed, and everyone will be left with one shot if they were loaded).
- Officer Aiming allowed but not encouraged.

Note for Regiments* You will not be exempt from the officer rules, if you want to fight together then you will need someone in the officer class to follow.
Reserve Officer slots by contacting one of the faction leaders.

In a typical NRP/BBG Battle, expect to see;
-Up to 200 Players battling it out in immersive Napoleonic Warfare
- A representation of cohesion and morale as lines or command may dissolve should an Officer fail to keep his men in order when the casualties start piling up
- Handcrafted maps designed to allow for choke points and killing fields, ensuring that any battle's tide can be turned by smart leadership
- Truly dynamic gameplay; no NRP Battle is the same as any other, and even the lowly ranker can watch the battle unfold before him in a myriad of layered tactical incidents
- Organisation with room to breathe; as an officer, you are free to employ unorthodox or risky methods if you believe it's in your best interest. Fire in charge, officer targeting, sapper forting and artillery guarding are all permitted provided they are not done with the intention of trolling or disrupting play!

*Officers are encouraged to use the NRP or BBG Discord which has been specifically tailored to make co-operative play amongst different officers viable and extremely useful.

Should I bring my regiment?
Absolutely!
NRP/BBG Campaign can be an excellent place for some relaxed but competitive practice for your regiment, as well as advertising your regiment to public players. Officers are chosen by the faction leader, so if a regiment wishes to lead a line in one of the events, all they have to do is contact the faction leader to see if they can have an Officer slot.

The NRP/BBG Campaign-How does it progress?
We have devised a ruleset and mechanics which allow the NRP/BBG Campaign to progress as if it was a board game.
Each Faction will have One leader, and two generals. The Faction leader will be able to move his armies or attack another army on the Campaign map. Each battle will be scored, and armies have health points.

These public line battles will last roughly 10-14 weeks. They will be every Saturday 9pm EST until one faction is defeated on the campaign map. The events will be played on the server named BBG_NRP_Campaign
-

Events: NA / NRP/BBG Campaign Event(starts Dec 14th)
« on: December 06, 2019, 12:45:05 am »
Introduction

Our previous EU campaigns have been a resounding success, and the NA NRP BBG Campaign is shaping up to be our most ambitious one yet. The NRP/BBG Campaign is based on a fictional war scenario which serves as a simplified conflict to decide whether made up factions called The Kingdom of Breytona or The Kingdom of Poitres will win gain control of the Campaign map here

In a typical NRP/BBG Battle, expect to see;
-Up to 200 Players battling it out in immersive Napoleonic Warfare

Competitive NA Events/Tournaments / UFC - NW V2
« on: September 04, 2019, 08:06:45 pm »

UFC NW is back! It will be run similarly to how the UFC or boxing operates as a sport. There will be ranked contenders for different divisions. Each division will have it's own champion.

The divisions will be sorted by skill. All fights will be FT7's. The champions will have to defend their title 3 times in order to move up to the next division. The players at the bottom of a division or players that are on losing streaks may be demoted to a worse division to make room for other players.

  • do your best and best of luck to whoever is interested
