About us

Peterwardeiner Gränz-Infanterieregiment Nr. 9 is a competitive European line infantry regiment. Our goal is to become one of the most disciplined infantry regiments in the EU community. Mostly we play 1v1s and groupfighting matches but we don’t mind an occasional 2v2/3v3 or a line only linebattle. Our regiment consists of both veterans of the game as well as newcomers. We don’t have an age limit and everyone is welcome as long as they’re mature enough to understand what order, discipline and teamwork are all about.

Historical background

The military reforms, in mid 18th century, of the The Military Frontier (a province straddling the southern borderland of the Habsburg Monarchy which acted as the cordon sanitaire against incursions from the Ottoman Empire) militia of Habsburg Monarchy led to creaton of Peterwardeiner National-Infanterieregiment Nr. 5. In 1768 the regiment was renamed to Peterwardeiner Gränz-Infanterieregiment Nr. 9. At the beginning the regiment consisted of ten companies comprised of local population which was to defend the borders of Habsburg Monarchy against often Ottoman incursions. As the number of population grew so did the number of companies which lead to a total number of 15 companies by the end of 18th century.

By the time of Napoleonic Wars, troops from the Military Frontier were now formed into more regular line infantry regiments, but were considered by the Austrian generals as something between light and line infantry. They were given training in marksmanship, skirmishing and the basics of linear tactics. At the start of the war as much as eighteen Grenz infantry regiments were formed, which made up about a quarter of the Habsburg Monarchy's army. However, the Grenzers were first and foremost skirmishing troops and were thought not to perform as well in the role of line infantry as the regular infantry regiments. As such, many in the Austrian military command did not think much of them. Following a mutiny in 1800, their numbers were reduced from 57,000 to only 13,000. Despite this, the Grenz infantry performed consistently well in battle, especially at Marengo and Austerlitz, earning them respect from the French. Napoleon held them in high opinion and considered them as the most warlike troops in the entire Austrian army. He had no hesitation in using the Grenz infantry after Austria's defeat in the War of the Fifth Coalition in 1809. The Treaty of Schönbrunn compelled Austria to cede territory in the Military Frontier and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th Grenz Infantry Regiments went into French service. They fought for Napoleon until his defeat and abdication in 1814.

Historical background

The First Serbian Uprising was the first stage of the Serbian Revolution, the successful wars of independence that lasted approximately 9 years and 9 months (1804–1813), during which Serbia achieved independence for the first time after more than three centuries of Ottoman rule and short-lasting Austrian occupations.

Serbian revolutionary army was made from the common folk. Gathering the army was done on a geographic basis, with occasional military training. An important part of the army was composed of former outlaws and refugees from neighboring areas under Turkish rule. Following the example of European countries at that time, at the end of 1808, Serbia introduced regular army, which was dependent on the state. Each nahiye (administrative unit of the Ottoman Empire), depending on the population, formed one or two companies of so called “regulashi” which meant they were regular army.

Regular army consisted of infantry and cavalry and had a major number of fighters and cannons. Fortified fortresses, camps and ditches were of great importance for upcoming defence against the Ottoman counter-offensive in 1812. Left by Russian Empire, which had to defend their motherland against Napoleon, Serbia was once again alone in its struggle for survival. Moreover, Serb leader - Karadjordje - was ill and had no strength to fight. In 1813 Serbian uprising has been crushed but this revolution sparked the Second Serbian uprising a year later which resulted in a creation of Principality of Serbia as it gained semi-independence from Ottoman Empire in 1817 (formally in 1829). Serbia got its fill independence in 1878 and was later recognized as a Kingdom of Serbia in 1882.

The first Serbian infantry regiment was formed at the end of the 19th century, but for the sake of gameplay and fun we placed it into the NW era.

History:
The 68th (Durham) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) was an infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1758 and amalgamated into The Durham Light Infantry in 1881. It saw action during the Seven Years' War before being converted to Light Infantry in 1808, fighting with distinction in the Peninsular Army under Arthur Wellesley. It would go on to fight with some distinction during the Crimean War, was present during the Indian Mutiny and the Maori Rebellion before returning to India between 1872 and 1888. It would become one of the battalions of the Durham Light Infantry in 1881, the other being the 106th Bombay Light Infantry.
The 68th Light Infantry and the Peninsular War
In September 1808 the 68th - 436 rank and file - were ordered to convert to Light Infantry, after the fashion of the 43rd and 52nd. Marched to Brabourne Lees, Ashford, Kent to train with the 85th under the master of light infantry training, Lt. Col. Franz Von Rothenburg.

Salamanca:

In 1811 the 68th went to Spain to share the fame of Wellington's army in The Peninsula, joining the newly formed 7th Division (The 'Mongrels').
After being present at the sieges of Badajoz and Cuidad Rodrigo the battalion advanced on Salamanca in June 1812. It took part in a vicious street-fight with the French at Moriscos is described byPrivate John Green. One Lt. Mackay received 22 bayonet wounds and survived.
On July 22nd, 7th Division was attacked by Foy's Division from Marmont's Army. The 68th and 2nd Cacadores were ordered-out to repel the French Voltigeures. Early in the afternoon the 68th were relieved by the 95th. By 4 o'clock it was back with the 1st Brigade of the 7th Division; under the command of Bernewitz, when Wellington came to the front, pulled off his hat and they advanced and broke three French Divisions.
Darkness brought the fighting to an end. The French suffered an overwhelming defeat where their losses of killed, wounded and taken prisoner totalled 20,000, compared with British losses of slightly over 5,000.
In August the 51st and the 68th were the first Regiments to march into Madrid, to great excitement. One the 13th August they assaulted a defended Fort, The Buen Retiro.

Vittoria:

The battalion took a significant part in the splendid victory of Vitroria on June 21st 1813, when within a few hours a French army of 70,000 men was irretrievably beaten, and Joseph Bonaparte, whom Napoleon had made King of Spain, was forced to flee.

Pyrenees:

In July 1813 the British advance continued into the Pyrenees, pushing onward and upward. On 30th July, above Ostiz,'attacked 2 battalions of Clausel's flank guard, driving them by bayonet down into the valley'. It took over a month of constant fighting in terrible conditions to push the French back over the Pyrenees.
In November Wellington attacked the formidable position taken up by Marshal Soult on the Nivelle, and the skilful tactics of the English commander, combined with the determined bravery of our troops captured, in 24 hours, the position which the French Marshal had been three months fortifying. Col. Inglis wrote 'The 68th made the attack with its usual vivacity!' The Regiment numbered only 197 men.

Orthez:

With the same spirit the battalion fought at Orthez. The 1st Brigade, including the 68th charged where the 4th Division had been stopped earlier and carried the position. One Brigade of approximately 1000 men had defeated a whole French Division. Orthes was the last action of the 68th in the Peninsular War, since while at the capture of Bordeaux the abdication of Napoleon brought an end to the Peninsular War for the 68th.

24e Régiment d'Infanterie
About us:
24e Régiment d'Infanterie is a newly formed regiment with veteran players. We are looking forward to daily events and weekly trainings. We formed this regiment in order to enjoy the game in a disciplined way and yet with a lot of fun and relaxing. As our title says, we are line infantry regiment but we have an artillery section and grenadier section. Regiment will have events like linebattle, sieges and even 1v1 if our members want it. While most of the regiments make gap between officers and other ranks, we don't. We respect ranks but we also want our members to be respected no matter where are they from, their age or what they do for a living.

We have a teamspeak server and we have a server in game. So if you're looking for friendly environment and yet disciplined during the event, which gives realistic note to playing, we are the ones you're looking for. You can contact us on steam:

Historical background:
The regiment was born in 1757 when king Louis XV paid Christian IV von Zweibrücken for the creation of an infantry regiment of 2000 men. Therefore at the very beginning of its history the regiment is a foreign regiment under French command, it takes the name of "Royal Deux-Ponts" and the very first commander is Christian Karl Wilhelm von Closen.
This regiment plays an important role in the battle of Austerlitz on 2nd December 1805, the beginning of a long series of battles including : Eylau (1807), Wagram (1809), Moskowa (1812) and the entry in Moscow on 19th September 1812. The regiment is engaged in all the battle and only 150 men survive from the 4000 initial ones.
Rebuilt in 1813, the regiment is sent to Germany for the battle of Leipzig (16th-19th October 1813) against Austrian, Russian, Prussian and Swedish troops. The regiment is then garrisoned in Lyon in 1854.
