Secret Theory
Some people actually claim that the book series is supposed to be about Jon Snow considering the book series franchise title and Jon Snows "secret" parents.

I can't get over how he had Stannis kill his daughter..

Also for being one of the best commanders of Westeroes he didn't have a very brilliant plan.

Yes, this was just like "Oh let's end the Stannis the Mannis storyline" fast. But in fact Stannis got rekt by Winter. To cold for Stannis to be a Mannis in the North, more like Bolton the Coldwon.

Showrunners despise Stannis and his character, as they've said in their commentaries. It was an unfortunately unintelligent way of getting rid of him.
