Having used Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas and Premiere Pro I'd say go for Premiere Pro 100%
I find Premiere has a nicer interface and is generally more user friendly

I mean, if you want free, get DaVinci Resolve, or you can get a cracked version of Premiere and After Effects or Vegas

DaVinci Resolve is what I've been using for most of my projects. It's pretty smooth and has some cool features that make my videos look professional, even though I'm far from it! The only downside, and it's a small one, is that the free version leaves a watermark on your videos.

I use Movavi. Got the full version for 22 bucks, and now I don't have headaches with the watermark. It's cheap, super simple to use, and has many in-built effects that make my videos pop. Read this article:https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/free-video-editing-software-no-watermark.html to find more about it and other editing alternatives.
