Irish Regiments During the Civil War

It’s estimated that up to 200,000 Irish Americans fought in the American Civil War, with 150,000 on the Union side and approximately 30,000-40,000 on the Southern Confederacy side. Many joined of their freewill, as they fully accepted America as their new homeland, but others were drafted by the controversial Enrollment Act of March 3rd 1863.

Many joined Union regiments composed exclusively of Irish-born immigrants, such as the 69th New York State Volunteers, the 90th Illinois Infantry Regiment, and the Irish Bridge, while the 24th Georgia Volunteer Infantry and Louisiana Tigers were Confederate regiments of solely Irish soldiers.


The Regiment

The 85th originally existed during Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Wars when it diverged from the late 76y and has formed a casual gaming environment from then on. When not in events, expect everyone to be playing a large variety of other games. We are open to people from anywhere, the Americas in particular, to join us as events we will be in will be at NA times. We plan to keep the casual environment we had previously and a structured ranking system that merely went through some Americanization. We expect all current and future members to follow the regimental rules and show respect for all other members and regiments.
