Introduction

Introducing the third season of the Gold 5v5 League. The league is making a comeback after taking a 3 year hiatus. Both of the previous seasons were successful and, I plan on having the third installation of this be successful too. Season 3 will be better in many ways, improvements include: a larger starting pool, a draft system, streamed matches and much more. This year I expect some troubles with the release of bannerlord and the state of the community, however this possible and will be an exceptional year. Previous seasons have had the FKMYASS team (lead by Maccle) and LG team (lead by Russianfury) claim the "trophy". Let's see who can claim it this year.

Information & Rules

The league will be 5 weeks long with each team participating in a bo3 series. Games will be played at any time, any day in the week so long as there is a ref (or myself) present on the server. Melee speed will be set to fastest and it will be hosted on one of our own private servers with 3 custom groupfighting maps, made by Windflower. Rounds will also be a bo30 (First to 16 wins, 15-15 tie will result in a bo6 overtime). The teams have been drafted already and are shown below. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 seeds will participate in a single elimination championship (tbd fully)

1. No shooting

2. Reserves must watch the game (unless swapping registered members out - ref's responsibility to check roster)

3. Both teams may only have 5 people on it (if a player drops wait for him, have someone fill his spot or reorganize the match)

4. Only line infantry can be used

5. Only muskets and rankers may be used

6. No fists

7. No jump attacks

8. You may not play under ANY alias besides the one you signed up for

9. You may not pass the white line until both sides are ready

10. No invites may be allowed from other teams

11. Captains must be added into the Gold Groupfighting League Groupchat

12. Deadlines may be extended if requested for a special circumstance, otherwise the game will count as a loss for the team that can not make it

13. All inactivity must be reported to me before the team goes active (so something can be figured out beforehand)

14. Both team captains must try to contact a ref and try to select a time and date to play their matches.

15. Matches must be announced on this thread with the date, time and whether or not they have a ref attending the match yet.

16. All team members must play/spectate with their correct tags on

17. All captains must add me on steam

18. Games must be played on our server (unless for a special reason the ref doesnt have the admin pw but has his own server or a server to go to)

Updates:

Timeout Rules: Each team will get 2 timeouts a match, each one will last, at most, a minute and 30 seconds. At the end of the timeout each team must be ready to go by typing "R".
Map Change Timing Rules: The maximum amount of time between each match will be 5 minutes.

Overtime
Max of 1 Bo6 OT (3-3 tie, 4 round wins to win)
3-3 Tiebreaker will be a ft4 (4 round wins to win, no ties after)
Each team will get 1 30 second timeout each OT period (so one 30 second timeout during the Bo6 and one during the ft4 period)

General Rules:
Officially putting this in writing, but both teams will have to be ready (R is typed) by 59:30. This'll give time for substitutions to happen and strats to be called without taking too long. Most games have been proceeding like this anyways.
Rosters will be 100% deadlocked by the end of Round 5. Meaning that if you have an inactive player in the playoffs, then you won't be able to swap that person out for a free agent.
Each round will last a maximum of 5 minutes.

Referee Rules

1. Do not start the round until BOTH team leaders have said that they are ready.

2. Try to schedule with teams that would like to play, if you may potentially miss a match than contact another referee.

3. Participate in the Gold Groupfighting League Group Chat

4. Do not have any bias towards ANY participating team

5. Registered referees who are also on teams may not ref the match that their team is playing on

6. Referees must try to check the thread/group chat daily.

7. Try to give a days notice if you are unable to ref a game you signed up for.

8. Matches must be played ONLY on the groupfighting map setup for this league.

9. Enforce all rules as stated above

Procedures on how the game will go:

1) Contact other team captain and a referee

2) Get into the server with your appropriate tags that you signed up with.

Mid Season Overview:


Who is poised to be top of the regular season, heading into playoffs?

At the moment it is still looking unclear. Blademasters were the only team to come into week 3 with a positive score. Despite this, they under-performed and seemed to implode, leaving many to wonder the integrity of the team going forward. Blademasters, when tilt free and with all starters playing, are easily a contender for the top position. However, coming hot off the press this week, we have two underdog teams that have risen up to the occasion; BONK and Coronanana. Many people think that on paper Bonk and Corona have the weakest teams in terms of skill. However, it seems like perhaps some of these superstar players are unable to work with their teammates and are allowing Bonk and Corona to work better together and function as a team. Corona was resilient in last matches game, where they lost the 1st map 16-12 and managed to bring it back from there. On the other hand, BONK, just straight up destroyed Squirtle Squad, did they have super teamwork that match? Or was the game just a fluke for SS? It's hard to answer. In both matches vs the underdogs, the other team were missing starters (VetroG and Sanders). Perhaps with these starters, the matches could of gone differently. The thing is though is that the season is still up in the air. TR and Vindica both have a match left that are against a top 3 seed, while SS faces off against TR and Vindica in their next two matches. TR can come out on top if: they beat SS next week and BM next week, if BM loses against BONK, and if Corona beats bonk. Vindica can come out on top if: they beat Corona and SS and if Corona loses to bonk. Lastly, SS needs to: beat Vindica and SS and all of the top 3 seeds need to lose at least 1 match. This is indicative that currently the playoff picture is uncertain. Factoring in the team drama, personal skill and previous experiences, it's nearly impossible to pick a clear favorite going into the last couple weeks.

Who is standing out? (besides the obvious)

This section is meant to shine some light on some of the more underdog players that have been doing well. Yes, everybody already knows that Russian, Cwater, Yoshie, Yolo and etc are doing great. However, lets recognize some of the other people killing it. Babyj. I might get some weird looks for this one and I get it. However, Babyj is #8 for total kills, #8 for first bloods and #12 for total points. BabyJ is not the most talented player listed here, but he has proven himself as a valuable member of the team. He does need to fix his deaths, as he is the first one dead the most (34) and has the most overall deaths (150). People are doubting BabyJ. In last nights match, people were thinking that Yoshie and BabyJ had conducted a name swap, fooling people into thinking it was yoshie doing so well, while in fact, it was BabyJ.

Oatmeal is on here due to him performing extremely well and under the shadow of his teammate, Godfried. Oatmeal is #2 for best KD(1.47) , #13 for total kills (134). Oatmeal also has a decent amount of First Bloods (14) but even more impressive, is that he only has 8 First Deaths, which is the best excluding subs who haven't played all too much. All in all, Oatmeal has been playing a clean, safe and proper game. I've also noticed that Oatmeal works well with his team. Most of the time, I have seen him playing on a side with somebody else and working well with them. Oatmeal definitely deserves some recognition and praise.

Ghostrider is in the same boat as Oatmeal is. He is shadowed over by him teammates, Anthony and Yoloswag. Ghostrider is currently #1 for best KD (1.54), extremely low amount of teamkills (4), he is #18 in kills (114) and has a low death count of 74. Furthermore, Ghost also has a pretty balanced First Blood to First Death count, with 17 First bloods and 15 First Deaths. Overall, I believe that Ghost is slept on and not talked about enough. He works well with his team and steps up to the plate if he has to. He plays a clean, safe and proper game just like Oatmeal and has contributed to Corona's 2 game winning streak.


Midseason Remarks


Despite this league pushing the limits of my marriage, I am enjoying it thoroughly. I don't think that in either of the last two seasons I have hosted that I have spent so much time and money into a league. Luckily, I really feel like it is paying off and coming together. There has been some drama, but for the most part it has been smooth. We're over halfway done with the midseason, and the race is so tight it's impossible to predict who will win. This is the best thing ever for any tournament because it keeps people on their toes, and keeps it interesting. I feel like I am doing something good for the community as well. 2020 NW seems like it has been extremely slow compared to the golden days. The last GF tournament was a month before I made the thread about this, so I feel like i'm directly helping keep the game alive - at least a little bit. I'm having fun with hosting each match and listening to what you guys have to say. I am extremely receptive to feedback about myself, and the league, which is why I'm constantly asking for feedback and taking in what you guys say (to the best of my ability). I think the stream has been controversial for some people - but I think ultimately it is a good thing since it makes this more professional (and because personally I love doing it, also shekels). Lastly, down below, I want to thank some people who have been instrumental in either helping me, or making this league run so far.

Week 4 recap archived

Week 4 Recap & Playoffs:



First off, I just want to say that that stupid fucking graphic i just made took me like an hour and a half. Anyways, week 4 has been concluded with Corona, Blademasters and Team Redemption coming out on top over their opponents. I think that it is now safe to say who is clearly on top of the league. Currently Corona and Blademasters are the only team with a positive W/L ratio. They are both equal in terms of point differential as well. Vindica and SS both secure their spot at the bottom with a -33 and -32 point differential. Team Redemption climbs out of the hole that they were in with a win over Squirtle Squad.


Playoffs:


The decision between a 6-seeded and a 4-seeded playoff system has been a source of controversy. I am sticking with my decision to go with a 4-seeded playoff bracket. I do genuinely feel bad for the teams that feel like they have been cheated out of the tournament. In hindsight I would of probably added another team or two (did not expect the amount of people that signed up after the draft and right before the draft) but it is what it is. I think that a team needs to deserve going into the playoffs, and a team that goes 1-4 during the regular season, in my eyes, doesn't deserve to move on to the playoffs. Imo, 6-seeding hurts the 3rd and 4th seeds too much for me to justify putting in the 5th and 6th seed. Posted below will be the information about the playoffs:

Playoff Information:
Top 4 Seeds
Round 1 of playoffs will start immediately after Week 5 (same timeframe, it's essentially week 6) and the Championship the following week.
Matches will all be Bo3
1st & 2nd Seeds will get first map pick

Clinched Playoffs:

#1 - Coronanana
#2 - Blademasters

Corona and Blademasters will end the season with 3 wins, no matter what. It is possible for 4 teams to have 3 wins so by default Corona and BM make it into the Playoffs.

Other Teams Playoff Chances:

Bonk Win over Corona: Clinched Playoff spot
Bonk Loss vs Corona & TR win vs BM: Bonk plays winner of SS vs Vindica

TR Win over Blademasters: Clinched Playoff spot
TR loss vs Blademasters & Bonk win vs Corona: TR plays winner of SS vs Vindica

Bonk & TR both lose: Point Differential will determine #3 and #4 seeding with SS vs Vindica winner's point differential tallied up as well.

Vindica or SS need to win their game vs each other and either TR or BONK need to lose their match.

I think that this is the best way to compromise between the people who wanted 4-seeding and 6-seeding. The bottom 4 seeds all keep their incentive to play their matches out as best as they can so week 5 isn't a waste of time.
