[RGL7] Introduction & Applications
« on: April 24, 2020, 01:47:02 am »

Welcome to the announcement thread of the Regimental Groupfighting League, Season 7. For those unfamiliar with the concept of a competition more widely known as the RGL, the Regimental Groupfighting League has been founded by Phoen!x, Cazasar and Hunter - and with the support of their frequent admin Rommel - such an event has quickly established itself as the reference among the regimental competitive community when it comes to the melee genre. Before the RGL's appearance, the Napoleonic War League (NWL) was the main competitive event where regiments could confront their abilities in 1v1 Linebattles and only the Regimental Groupfighting Tournament (RGT) hosted by Karth - and taken over by Herishey & Crisheh a few years later - had truly managed to put melee has the pivotal point of regimental competition. However, with the RGT being a one-night thing only, the growth for a melee-focused event lasting for an extended period of time became bigger and bigger over the years. Eventually, that's how the RGL was born and since the first edition hosted in March 2015, the event has witnessed five more successful seasons, each with unique storylines and a different winner. Eventually, however, the last edition was dragged on longer than usual and though it got finished in the end, with the 15thYR defeating the K-KA in a nail-biting final, it appeared none among the tournament admins were planning on hosting another season after that, as they all took a step-back from Napoleonic Wars.

Almost one year has passed since then, and from the look of things, the RGL S6 indeed was to be the last edition ever hosted. Recently, however, I have contacted Shadey and convinced him about organizing the RGL S7 alongside me. We both came to believe that such a prestigious event deserved an ending worthy of the time, effort and standards the RGL founders have put into each season and we felt that the last edition ending didn't exactly do justice to that, as any sort of hype was pretty much gone from all parties involved at the time. We are fully aware of what challenge hosting such a competition is but we both feel like we have the experience and interest to carry on with such an important legacy. Both Cazasar and Phoen!x have entrusted us with the responsibility of taking the RGL over and though we feel extremely happy about that, only time will tell if we truly were able to live-on to the former glory this competition once had. Be assured, however, that we will put the highest effort into hosting a professional, enjoyable and competitive event so that we can not only provide the NW community with a good tournament but also show its former hosts they took the right decision in giving us carte blanche.

On this thread, you will find all the required information about this season of the RGL accompanied by a sign-up form which you can already fill-up. In due time, we will move this thread to the RGL child-board where you will be able to find a more complete ruleset alongside other complementary information. We hope regiments from all side of the community will continue to show endless support as they did for past editions. Shadey and I remain at your entire disposal if any questions remain but we insist you read the FAQ before attempting at contacting us.

Sign-up Deadline: 3rd of May
First Week Matches: 4th of May.
    Hosts: Tardet & Shadey
Format: League Stage - 15v15 (+)

Below, you will find a couple of frequently asked questions, which we hope will clarify several points. We are obviously open for discussion and would very much like to hear your suggestions as we know not everything is optimal yet, starting with the competition official schedule. There are some compromises we had to make and some will be explained here.

Spoiler
Q/ Why did you decide to go with the RGL format?
A/ Shadey and I both believe this competition to be something special and though every regiment is obviously going to approach the whole thing differently, the RGL truly offers a completely different dimension. You can literally start from the bottom and matches after matches, work-out the ultimate formula. It rewards players who over the months, work hard to try and improve in order to find their place among the line-up of their regiment. The format is the closest possible to your normal groupfighting in term of size and gives importance to every single player in your team. There is a lot of room for tactical approaches if you wish to dive into it as a leader. Truly, if you have not experienced it yet, you must give it a try as very few other competitions on NW give that sort of feeling.

We also intend to capitalize on the RGT hype which is why we want to start the RGL right after it.

Q/ Why hosting it now and why is the deadline for sign-ups so short?
A/ There is obviously an argument about both the upcoming exams and the summer vacations being an issue which is why we aim at finishing the tournament by the first week of July at the latest. We could have waited for September/October but it's impossible to know in which state the community will be by that time nor if Shadey and myself will still have the time to commit to such a big event. We believe with the current lockdown, the situation will be still particular for a while and we want to use that to our advantage. We don't need more than one week and a half to be fully operational, the 2v2 hosted by Kincaid is coming to an end this week or the next one - and with no other regimental events being planned, we don't think there is necessarily the need to wait for longer. We understand the overall schedule might not be to everyone's liking and we insist that if the majority of the current leaders who would partake in that league happens to prefer delaying the tournament to September/October 2020, it's not too late to call off the event. That's where your feedback will be key and I certainly prefer you to be honest with yourselves and us and not commit to a competition if you know your players will start to go missing by mid-June.

We also have solutions to keep the same amount of matches but shorten the event significantly, solutions which will eventually discuss with the regimental leaders involved.

Q/ Is the format stuck to 15v15 or can we play more?
A/ The format will be a minimum of 15v15, like previous editions, however, we strongly encourage every regiment to try and increase that number in as many matches as possible. We know it won't be possible for every regiment, every match, but the RGL is about building a somewhat large line-up and getting it to work together, not just taking your 10 best players and going against the 10 other best players of other regiments for one night like the RGT is. There is something more to it, and we hope most of the regiment participating will try to observe that kind of mindset as the event will definitely prove much more enjoyable and epic that way.

Q/ Will the rules be the same as former RGLs?
A/ The rules will be mostly similar to previous editions as we believe there is no reason to completely change something which has been working previously. You can expect us to be stricter than past editions when it comes to monitoring official matches (making sure they are organized properly), transfer mid-competition and the likes but overall, if you have already played an RGL, you should experience the same sort of standards as before.

I have played this game for nearly 10 years and the RGL is by far one of the most amazing events I ever got the chance to attend. I hope Shadey and I manage to give an equally amazing experience to the people playing this edition.

Get that sweat bucket ready and bring the heat because the best regimental competition of the last five years is BACK.

I was not expecting that at all. With Tardet and Shadey hosting it, this can only be a well organized competition. Good luck to you both and to all the regiments.
