Suriname seems to be a very interesting situation. The Dutch owned this country in northern South America until the 20th century, and they moved Indonesians and Indians to work there, so the current demographics are very interesting. They speak Dutch, and creole versions of it, and the country is 37% East Indian, 31% Creole (Africans who were slaves mixed with whites), 15% Javanese (from Indonesia), 10% Maroon (runaway slaves from mostly West Africa), 8% mixed, and 3.7% indigenous peoples. Pretty crazy how things turned up.
