Millander your rifle hold is a bit weird.... :P

that "hold" is very popular. Its not the regulation ways to hold your musket. But when at the route step :D  Its so comfy.

It's not just ACW, actually. There are drawings of Napoleonic-era soldiers holding their muskets like that, even when on patrol.

Hmmr, United States Army drills? No.  Probably just the march orders, i dunno. But definately not the arm drills.

Its one of the many variations of right shoulder shift. Letting the hammer rest on your shoulder is pretty comfortable however its not very good for the double quick.
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Wambaugh kit arrived today, got Richmond type 3 instead of type 2. Was pretty disappointed until i did research to find Type 3 was issued 1864-1865 which is perfect for my impression. Decided to keep it anyway.

JUst perfect.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

Humans are extremely complicated creatures. Death uncomplicates them to a frightening degree...
