Then again, anyone who re-enacts to be a hussar or grenadier and doesn't wear a moustache should be kicked in the grill.

yes, we're looking at you, Duuring.

I'm sixteen. I can't grow a moustache!

Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

Say that again when I'm in full parade dress.

I have an afro does that count?
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Well, I can't talk on this account. But it does make me wonder what the proper way of wearing hair long in the Napoleonic era would have been for men. I assume some sort of curls.

That's assuming we're keeping cadenettes out of the picture.

Regulations of the Regiment Nr. 6 specifically say all men must have short hair.

I'm claiming officers privilege here. I'm technically a cadet.

If hair had to be worn long, it was usually in a queue. Although long hair was completely out of fashion in western Europe where the so-called Bedford style reigned. It was a little more popular in Russia---medium length hair seems to have been mandatory for their guard Cossacks. I've also got a number of images of officers of that regiment with hair past their shoulders.

Fun story: In April 1809 when GD Nansouty arrived at his command in Germany and discovered his officers and Colonels had cut off their queues, he was so outraged he had them arrested until the following day :)

The queue was abolished for infantry (except those in the Guard) 26 August, 1804 (though they certainly persisted after that). How could he have them arrested for following regulation? I've heard the story of Nansouty becoming furious when he found out that they were abolished without his knowledge, but never him having anyone arrested.
