If they're Belgian they probably pulled an unexpected victory out of nowhere

Except for the siege of Breda.

In my opinion during the sieges that lasted for months it would actually be somewhat similar to Petain's strategy at Verdun. Men would be deployed to the Front while others waited to relieve them in the reserve. The bivouack would be outside of town as townspeople could get hostile and burn the camp while the attackers are resting. The bivouacks would always be teeming with men and activity. Warfare has not changed that much since then. In the civil war many units were put in reserve during major battles ready to be called to the front at a moments notice. Same with WW1 and WW2 even today's warfare follows this principle.

Spoiler
It depends on the nationality/military.

If they're Spanish they probably pillaged and raped

If they're English they probably waited for their foreign allies to break the enemy lines first

If they're French then they're either lead to victory by Napoleon, they don't finish the siege because their government was overthrown, or they've already surrendered

If they're Belgian they probably pulled an unexpected victory out of nowhere

If they're Polish they charge them with horses

If they're Dutch they either bought the city for less than it was worth or sold it for twice what it was worth

If they're Portuguese they sit around and eat fish and pretend they aren't to Spain what Mexico is to the US

If they're Austrian they've probably killed each other by now (Karansebes)

If they're Italian they'll wait for their bigger, stronger allies to bail them out

If they're Montenegrin... who cares, Agovich will make a detailed forum post about it anyway

If they're American then they scrape out a close victory and publish 3 songs, 14 poems, 22 stories, and 2 new national anthems about it

All of this is assuming the setting is between 1600-1800s
[close]

Lol, so true XD

Someone needs to make a proper siege event in NW or BCoF where the siege lasts for months.

Honestly, that would be fun in a weird way... have each "day" be about 1-2 hours of a standoff and the attackers basically have to keep the defenders in until their food supplies (which would be kept track of by an admin) run out or they decide to surrender. Each attacker gets 3 lives, each defender gets 1 or 2. To win the attackers obviously have to capture the fort/town or force the defenders to surrender (either by keeping them trapped until their food supplies run out or by simply battering them into submission). The defenders would win by either killing off the attackers or getting them to give up and retreat. Defenders don't have to stay in the fort/town but it's probably the better idea. Also, members who quit in the middle of the game are considered deserters (crashes don't count) this can be another factor of the long, drawn out siege warfare.

So how would artillery work? After a half hour of bombardment, shit is pretty broken.
