Regiments / 7th "Queen's Own" Regiment | Recruiting EU [Line/Cav/Lights]
« on: February 26, 2018, 11:46:45 pm »

The 7th Royal Fusiliers is a Regiment consisting of 3 Companies: Line, Light and Cavalry.
Originally formed on the 29-03-2018 by 2 regiments merging together.

The regiment tries to bring a fun environment to those who are looking for a casual place to chill and hang out. While also bringing a more competetive vibe for those interested in that
We do our best to balance these 2 out to create the most enjoyable expierence for anyone playing. We try to look disciplined while allowing fun to be had in the Teamspeak
To ensure that we have a community we have a Regiment-wide Discord and Teamspeak. Discord to be used to have fun out of events and Teamspeak being used for events themselves.

The regiment is a Combination of the 7th "Queen's Own" Hussars and 7th "Royal Fusiliers" Regiment of Foot

Infantry History (7th "Royal Fusiliers" Regiment of Foot)

Formation

It was formed as a fusilier regiment in 1685 by George Legge, 1st Baron Dartmouth, from two companies of the Tower of London guard, and was originally called the Ordnance Regiment. Most regiments were equipped with matchlock muskets at the time, but the Ordnance Regiment were armed with flintlock fusils. This was because their task was to be an escort for the artillery, for which matchlocks would have carried the risk of igniting the open-topped barrels of gunpowder. The regiment went to Holland in February 1689 for service in the Nine Years' War and fought at the Battle of Walcourt in August 1689 before returning home in 1690. It embarked for Flanders later that year and fought at the Battle of Steenkerque in August 1692 and the Battle of Landen in July 1693 and the Siege of Namur in summer 1695 before returning home.

The regiment took part in an expedition which captured the town of Rota in Spain in spring 1702 and then saw action at the Battle of Vigo Bay in October 1702 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The regiment became the 7th Regiment of Foot (Royal Fusiliers) in 1751, although a variety of spellings of the word "fusilier" persisted until the 1780s, when the modern spelling was formalised.

Napoleonic Wars

The regiment embarked for Holland and saw action at the Battle of Copenhagen in August 1807 during the Gunboat War. It was then sent to the West Indies and took part in the capture of Martinique in 1809. It embarked for Portugal later that year for service in the Peninsula War and fought at the Battle of Talavera in July 1809, the Battle of Bussaco in September 1810. And the Battle of Albuera in May 1811.

The regiment then took part in the Siege of Ciudad Rodrigo in January 1812, the Siege of Badajoz in spring 1812 and the Battle of Salamanca in July 1812 as well as the Battle of Vitoria in June 1813. It then pursued the French Army into France and fought at the Battle of the Pyrenees in July 1813, the Battle of Orthez in February 1814 and the Battle of Toulouse in April 1814. It returned to England later that year before embarking for Canada and seeing action at the capture of Fort Bowyer in February 1815 during the War of 1812.

Cavalry History (7th "Queen's Own" Hussars)

Formation

The regiment was first raised by Brigadier-General Richard Cunningham as The Queen's Own Regiment of Dragoons in May 1689, by the regimenting of various independent troops, and was ranked as the 7th Dragoons and named for Queen Mary. The regiment fought at the Siege of Namur in July 1695. The Hon William Kerr became colonel in 1709 in the closing stages of the Nine Years' War. The regiment was disbanded in 1714, with its squadrons joining the 1st and 2nd Dragoons, but reformed in 1715 as The Princess of Wales's Own Regiment of Dragoons, named for Princess Caroline.

The battle of Austerlitz took place on the 2nd of December 1805, for this battle Napoléon 1er develops a trap against the Austrian force, this trap is intended to make the enemy believe that the forces of Napoleon are too weak to win the match. To do this, he uses many tricks (organize the withdrawal of his troops during clashes or skirmishes, ask to be received by the other emperors to negotiate, etc.). The enemies then think that Napoleon has only 40 000 men (instead of 73 400).
Napoléon 1er win the battle of Austerlitz with 1290 men killed, 6943 wounded against 16 000 men killed or wounded and 180 cannons lost at the camp of Austria.
This is one of the greatest victory of the Napoleonic wars for the French army.

Napoleonic Wars

In October 1808 the 7th Hussars were sent to Corunna to reinforce Sir John Moore's Army which was in retreat: the regiment supported Moore's retreat at the Battle of Sahagún on 21 December 1808 and at the Battle of Benavente on 21 December 1808. Many horses had to be destroyed for want of transport as the troops re-boarded their ships at Corunna. On the return journey the transport Dispatch, was wrecked, on Black Head, a few miles to the south of the Lizard on 22 January 1809. The regiment lost 104 men in the wrecking: only seven men from the Dispatch were saved. The regiment arrived back on the Peninsula again in August 1813 and undertook two highly successful charges at the Battle of Orthes in February 1814 leading the Marquess of Wellington to report: "The 7th Hussars distinguished themselves on this occasion and made many prisoners."

In March 1814 the regiment was ordered to proceed to Brighton and put down rioting caused by the imposition of the Corn Laws. The regiment then embarked for the Netherlands and was ordered by General Lord Uxbridge to undertake a series of charges on the advancing enemy, the French 2nd regiment of lancers under Colonel Jean Baptiste Joseph Sourd, at the action at Genappe on 17 June 1815. The following day, at the Battle of Waterloo, the regiment was held in reserve until the evening, but then again undertook a series of charges. Standish O'Grady, then a lieutenant in the 7th Hussars mentions is a letter to his father:

"We charged twelve or fourteen times, and once cut off a squadron of cuirassiers, every man of whom we killed on the spot except the two officers and one Marshal de Logis, whom I sent to the rear".

In May 1838 the regiment was deployed to Canada as part of the response to the Lower Canada Rebellion.
