About Us

We are a British brigade that formed in December 2017. Under the leadership of Brigadier General Skitty, the brigade strives to represent a system of values that were put in place at it's very founding. We insist that every regiment that joins the brigade takes an equal part in making decisions and choices that influence the future of the brigade, implementing a voting system which ensures that the brigade always represents the views of the majority, rather than that of the minority. We also understand that playing Mount and Blade is about having fun, to this end we try our hardest to make sure each regiment is happy and enjoying themselves within the brigade.

Honi soit qui mal y pense (shame on anyone who thinks evil of it)
-7th (Royal Fusiliers) Regiment Motto

The Royal Fusiliers were sent to Canada in April 1773. The regiment was broken up into detachments that served at Montreal, Quebec, Fort Chambly and Fort St Johns (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu). In the face of the American invasion of Canada in 1775/76, most of the regiment was forced to surrender. The 80 man garrison of Fort Chambly attempted to resist a 400-man Rebel force but ultimately had to surrender. This is where the regiment lost its first set of colours. A 70-man detachment under the command of Captain Humphrey Owens assisted with the Battle of Quebec in December 1775.

The men taken prisoner during the defence of Canada were exchanged in British held New York City in December 1776. Here, the regiment was rebuilt and garrisoned New York and New Jersey. In October 1777, the 7th participated in the successful assaults on Fort Clinton and Fort Montgomery and the destruction of enemy stores at Continental Village. In late November, 1777 the regiment reinforced the garrison of Philadelphia. During the British evacuation back to New York City, the regiment participated in the Battle of Monmouth in June 1778. The 7th participated in Tryon's raid in July 1779.

In April 1780, the Royal Fusiliers took part in the capture of Charleston. Once Charleston fell, the regiment helped garrison the city. Three companies were sent to Ninety-Six to assist with the training of Loyalist militia companies. An 80-man detachment also sent to Camden, South Carolina to help build that town's defences. The detachments were recalled to Charleston for refitting in late August 1780. They were then mounted and sent to join Charles Cornwallis's Army as it advanced towards Charlotte, North Carolina in early September 1780. The 7th, mounted on horses, along with two regiments of Loyalist militia, cleared the region north of Georgetown, South Carolina of partisans while en route. The Royal Fusiliers turned the horses over to Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's British Legion upon uniting with Cornwallis in late September and then served as the Army's rearguard.

Between October 1780 and early January 1781, the regiment, having lost about one third of its officers and men to sickness and disease, protected the communication and supply lines between Camden and Winnsboro, South Carolina. On 7 January 7, 1781, a contingent of 171 men from the Royal Fusiliers was detached from Cornwallis's Army and fought under the command of Tarleton at the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781. The Royal Fusiliers were on the left of the line of battle: Tarleton was defeated and the regiment's colours were captured with the baggage wagons. A 19-man detachment from the regiment fought through North Carolina participating in the Battle of Guilford Court House in March 1781 and ultimately the Siege of Yorktown, where it served with the regiment's Light Infantry Company. There was another detachment, which remained in the South under the command of Lt Col. Alured Clarke: these men remained in garrison in Charleston, until they were transferred to Savannah, Georgia in December 1781. The regiment returned to England in 1783.

about the 89th Foot
The89th Foot was formed by both old and new members of this community. Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds within the community. Many of our members have great melee skill and experience. We strive to become a disciplined and melee focused regiment, whilst still keeping a layer of fun. We take part in various events, however, they are mostly 1v1 line battles and group fighting matches. We also play various other games together, outside of events. We want members of the regiment treat others with respect and do not discriminate against anyone. The 89th Foot hopes to become a home for any person, no matter how they sound, look or play. Those that show a desire to improve will be trained and will better their skill. Those that wish to join but desire fun above skill are welcome, however, we expect them to treat others with respect and be disciplined.

The History of the 89th (The Princess Victoria's) Regiment Of Foot

In December 1793 a regiment was raised in Dublin to meet Britain’s manpower needs in the French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802). It was given the numeral 89 and sent to Flanders the following year.

It was back in Ireland by 1798, suppressing the Irish Rebellion of that year. In 1799 it moved to the Mediterranean, serving on Minorca, Sicily and Malta before serving in the Egyptian Campaign (1801). In 1804 the regiment raised a 2nd Battalion.

The newly designated 1st Battalion sailed for northern Germany in 1805, losing two companies and its Colours on the voyage from Ireland. It was back in England by 1806, when it was presented with a new set. The following year it joined the abortive attempt to capture Spanish ports in South America, before moving to the Cape of Good Hope in 1807.

In 1808 1st Battalion moved to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). It remained in India and the Far East for the next 23 years. Its service included the capture of Mauritius (1810), the invasion of Java (1811) and Sumatra (1812) in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), the Third Maratha War (1817-18) and the First Burma War (1824-26).

Meanwhile, 2nd Battalion had garrisoned Ireland until 1810 when four companies were sent to Spain during the Peninsular War (1808-14). These were captured by the French at Fuengirola (1810). The rest of the battalion fought throughout the War of 1812 (1812-15), winning the battle honour ‘Niagara’ before being disbanded in 1816.

In 1831 the regiment returned to England. Two years later Princess Victoria, the heiress to the throne, in her first public engagement, presented the 89th with new Colours. In honour of this it added her coronet to its badge.

The regiment spent 1831 to 1854 garrisoning Gibraltar, the West Indies, Canada and Britain, before being sent to fight in the Crimean War (1854-56) where it served at Sevastopol (1855).

In 1855 the 89th moved to the Cape Colony (in what is now South Africa), fighting against an uprising by the Xhosa, before moving to Bombay in 1857 for service during the Indian Mutiny (1857-59).

It stayed in India for eight years and in 1866, a year after its return to Britain, it was presented with a new set of Colours by Queen Victoria. That year she renamed the regiment ‘Princess Victoria’s’ in memory of the 1833 presentation.

Regiments / 9th (Duke of York's) Regiment of Foot , ON HOLD
« on: June 01, 2017, 09:58:56 pm »

Early history

The title of 9th Foot was awarded in 1751, but the origins of the regiment are with Henry Cornewall's Regiment of Foot raised by James II in 1685 in response to the Monmouth Rebellion.

The regiment fought in the Williamite war in Ireland, seeing action at the Battle of the Boyne and Battle of Aughrim, as well as the siege of Limerick (1690), and siege of Limerick (1691) and siege of Athlone. In the War of the Spanish Succession, the regiment fought in several engagements, including the Battle of Almansa.

The Napoleonic Wars

The 9th arrived in the Spanish Peninsula in 1808 and fought at Roliça and Vimiero. Following the retreat from Corunna the 9th buried Sir John Moore and were the last British regiment to leave Spanish soil.

Following the disastrous Walcheren expedition to the Low Countries the Regiment returned to the Peninsula and fought at Busaco, Salamanca, Vittoria, at the Siege of San Sebastián, and at Nive. The Regiment fought alongside Portguese troops as part of Manley Power's brigade which was in Picton's Fighting Third at the Battle of Vittoria, where the 3rd Battalion took a key bridge under heavy fire.

The Regiment was sent to Canada with most of Wellington's veteran units to prevent the threatened invasion by the United States, and so arrived in Europe too late for Waterloo. The 1st Battalion participated in the Army of Occupation in France, whilst the 2nd Battalion was disbanded at the end of 1815.

History

The 74th was raised in 1787 by Archibald Campbell, their first colonel, and known as Campbell's Highlanders.

It first saw action in India during the Mysore campaign of 1789, fighting at Bangalore and Seringapatam. It subsequently saw action under Arthur Wellesley in the Mahratta War of 1802; it also fought at Assaye in 1803.

Returning to Europe, it served under Wellington again in the Peninsular campaign, and fought at Busaco, Fuentes d'Onoro, (both sieges of Badajoz), also the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, Vittoria, Nivelles, Tarbes, Orthe, and Toulouse. It was then sent to garrison Ireland, and so missed the Battle of Waterloo, although it was on its way to embark for Belgium when news of the battle arrived.

It remained in Ireland until 1818, it was then in Canada and New Brunswick until 1828, Bermuda for a year, and in Ireland again from 1830 to 1834. Later in the 1830s and into the 1840s, the 74th was stationed in St. Lucia, Barbados and other islands in the West Indies; its personnel keeping remarkably healthy apart from one outbreak of fever and dysentery. Without coming home again, it then went to Quebec in Canada.

The 74th came back to Britain from Canada in March 1845 with a dreadful disembarkation from the open roadstead at Deal. Later that year it became the 74th (Highland) Regiment. It had served for its first fifteen years in India, where the kilt was considered too heavy, and although the soldiers resumed wearing it on returning to Scotland in 1806, they had lost their Highland dress in 1809, and the name “Highland” in 1816. However the commanding officer, Colonel Eyre J. Crabbe, who was about to retire after 38 years continuous service with the regiment, was able to assure the Commander-in-Chief, the Duke of Wellington, "that throughout the varied services and changes of so many years, a strong national feeling, and a connection with Scotland by recruiting, had been constantly maintained." The regiment then served in the Kaffir War and in the Sepoy Rebellion.

In 1852 the regiment was involved in the HMS Birkenhead disaster; under their commander, Lieutenant Colonel Seaton and with men of the 73rd regiment. They followed what became known as the "Birkenhead" Drill, enabling women and children on board to be saved.

In 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, the 74th amalgamated with the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot to become the 2nd battalion, Highland Light Infantry.

Waterloo
Black Watch at Quatre Bras

With the war with France now apparently over, the 2nd battalion was disbanded in 1814 and some of its number transferred to the permanent 1st battalion. The now single battalion 42nd fought at the chaotic Battle of Quatre Bras on 16 June 1815[34] under Lieutenant-colonel Sir Robert Macara, who was killed by French lancers.[35] The 42nd was one of four battalions mentioned by Wellington in despatches after the battle. Two days later at the Battle of Waterloo,[36] the 42nd and also the 2nd/73rd Highlanders, which was later to become the new 2nd Battalion, Black Watch, were both in some of the most intense fighting in the battle.[8]

History

The Nr. 8 Leib-Grenadiere was formed in recognition of the efforts of the soldiers which successfully defended Kolberg against the French in the campaigns of 1806 under the command of nobody less than Gneisenau. Since then, it has been one of the most important regiments of the army over the centuries, always under the direct command of the kings and emperors of Germany, and always on nearly all imporant battlefields in every war, marching into Paris in 1812, defeating Napoleon at Waterloo and Ligny, taking several redoubts in Düppel in 1864 in the Danish-German War, heroically defeating superior numbers in Gitschin and afterwards marching into Vienna in the German War 1866, and fighting on many important fields in the German-French War and World War I., after which it has been disbanded and could only continue its legacy as the 8. (Preußische) Infanterieregiment until 1934.
