Off Topic / Can yall stop getting your steam accounts hacked
« on: September 18, 2020, 11:33:13 pm »
3rd time this week ive gotten a message from some random old NW person linking to an obvious phishing site asking me to vote for a team in some bs cup vote for CS:GO or LoL or shit. Dont give out your username and password on random websites (even if it seems kinda legit) or some dutch hacker's gonna take it and spam your friends kiddos.

Off Topic / Warhammer 40K Thread (Lore/Games/Miniatures/etc. welcome)
« on: June 17, 2017, 05:51:46 am »
It seems there was a previous thread on the subject but it is almost 4 and a half years old now so I think a reboot is warranted rather than necroing it.

If you have ever been interested in 40K or wanted to get into it (games/lore/tabletop/otherwise), now is a good time. 8th Edition is rolling out tomorrow.

The Mess Hall / I miss the old Duuring

 straight from Netherlands Duuuring
Dish out the memes Duuring, set on his dreams Duuring
I hate the new Duuring, the bad mood Duuring
Not part of the game community Duuring, but still head mod Duuring
The always rude Duuring, spaz in off topic Duuring
I miss the sweet reenactin' Duuring, rise 'gainst the mods Duuring
Actually played NW Duuring, the pre-head mod Duuring
I gotta to say, at that time I'd like to shitpost with Duuring
See he invented Duuring, it wasn't any Duurings
And now I look and look around and they reenactin' Duuring
I used to love Duuring, meme in off topic Duuring
Revolt against the mods duuring, attacker of fraud Duuring
I even had the orange Polo, I thought I was Duuring
What if Duuring made a post, about Duuring?
Called "I Banned The Old Duuring," man that'd be so Duuring
That's all it was Duuring, he still loves Duuring
And I love you like Duuring loves Muting.

Off Topic / Remembrance Day is coming get your avatar poppies
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:19:38 pm »

Remembrance Day is coming up.

Want to show respect and gratitude to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in various conflicts? Too lazy or incompetent to add a poppy to your avatar yourself? Need something to keep your avatar different cause you're a special snowflake and its still too early for the Santa hats? Then just pick a poppy from the options below and I'll add one for you!

Might as well pay our respects before throwing on the santa hats  ::)

Regiments / NA Regiment Leaders' Group
« on: March 11, 2016, 08:59:52 pm »
On the advice of Becker and with other considerations in mind (namely the incident with the NANWL/NANANWL, which I must add - to their credit - was resolved rather successfully in the end thanks to the members involved) I have decided to put together a group, or "committee", of NA regiment leaders. This group is intended to serve the dual purpose of:

A) Resolving disputes/incidents as they occur
B) Discussing issues surrounding the NA community

If you are a leader and have not yet been added to the Steam group, add Junedragon on Steam. Also check your invites first to make sure you haven't missed it.

If you are a leader and are unwilling or unable (time constraints, etc.) to participate, you may pick someone in your regiment to represent it on your behalf. Additionally, leaders may choose to add 1 other person from their regiment (eg. your second-in-command) to the group). They will not have the same role as leaders but will be able to participate.

Group will be taking the form suggested by Becker, as outlined below:

Hey June I finally described my committee idea in terms that make sense.
Given this is for a NANWL type tournament but it's the same effect.
You hold positions,
President, Vice, Minutes, Treasury(?), Chief Justice.
Chairs underneath them if needed. Each holds their own responsibility for weekly/bi-weekly meetings about the state of affairs for the NA community.

That's why I said majority vote. When regiments sign up they are agreeing to comply with the decisions of the committee not the other way around.
Everybody would simply need to act in a professional manner for once. Wouldn't be too hard.

I'm talking about rules like the 3 match ban, pretty sure we could agree to either bring that down to one game or get rid of it all together.
Not so much for in-game rules. Those are pretty much figured out.

This would require a proper voting and minutes system. A vote brought to motion would need a fraction of backers in order to be voted on, a simple system of ayes and nays. If anybody is in a fraternity or has seen how an executive council works understands what I'm explaining.
I'll even pull out my EC script to get it right.
If it can get 190 half drunk college students to get to pay $500 in dues a person every semester it can get us to work out a solid rule set.

It's been a pleasure serving as NA community rep for the past two months. Whilst I was rather unfortunately occupied by exams and unexpected circumstances over the last few weeks, I feel like we did accomplish something of value and that it is certainly worth continuing with the position. In this regard, I wholeheartedly trust Mack to continue where I left off in striving to make this community a better place and prepare it for BCoF.

Thanks go out to Duuring for bringing back the CR position as well as to all of you that participated in my efforts and gave input into the future of the community.

I'll still be active on the forum and in game of course so I'll see you all around.

Regards,
Junedragon - Now with no sexy blue name  :'(

Past Updates:

Update 1

Update 1

Its been about half a week since the result of the runoff election was revealed on the 28th of March. As I stated in my platform/pre-election promises, I intend on avoiding unilateral action pretty much altogether. As such, I have decided to dedicate the majority of the first and second weeks in this position to preliminary discussion and brainstorming with the community. I have also taken the time to get to know and begin engaging members who have better knowledge/experience of unique sections of the community (eg. modding). To this end, I also created a thread for discussion on the state of the competitive community (which has yielded some interesting suggestions so far). If you have not seen/participated in this thread or responded to the included survey, I'd recommend checking it out now:

Forum Rule Reform

This week, I have also put into motion my plan to create a report on suggested changes/reforms to the forum rules. The plan, as it stands, involves going over forum rules/policies with a small group gathered from around the community, then passing on any suggestions yielded to the community at large for general discussion before final organization into a cohesive report. The process of contacting members has already begun, and several have already accepted the invitation to participate.

If you have not yet been contacted but would like to participate, send me a pm by Friday. To apply, you must have a minimum rank of Sergeant on the forum. Also note that the group is to be kept at a small number (no more than 5-10 max), acceptance/selection is by no means whatsoever guaranteed (and there is no offence intended if you are not picked  :P ).

If you have been contacted and have not yet replied, RSVP ASAP - if you do not respond by Friday, it will be assumed that you are not interested in taking part.

Other Happenings

I took Grimsight's comment that the Community Reps should be as accessible as possible (via a variety of channels) to heart. As such, in addition to forum pm's and steam, I have created a Community Rep Teamspeak server (address below). Feel free to contact me with any concerns, criticisms, or suggestions via any method at any time (I am usually available on at least one).

Teamspeak Address: tor7.progamerhosting.com:9015
My steam Profile: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198027183015

That's pretty much it for now. Look out for new surveys, discussions, and the likes as I continue in my attempts to engage the collective community toward the improvement of its current state.

Updates 2-3 + extras
Welcome to the second weekly update from the NA Community Representative.

As I have explained at length, my primary goal over the next few months is to engage the community as frequently as possible and to affect as much meaningful change as possible to its collective benefit. This thread is a logical extension of that goal.

Here, I will post weekly updates pertaining to the tasks I am currently undertaking in the role of Community Rep. I encourage you all to discuss any and all progress and decisions being made, voicing any concerns, criticisms, and/or suggestions you may have. I intend to keep everyone up to date on all matters.

Update 2

Community Discussion

Its been about 2 weeks since the result of the runoff election was revealed on the 28th of March. Over the last week, constructive discussion on the "State of the Competitive Community" thread I started last week has yielded (thanks to the commitment and effort of several individuals) several promising ideas, particularly those for new events. Concrete plans are currently being discussed and put into place to make these events a reality.

These events include:

  • A public NA_1 Linebattle
  • A public conquest event - brought to you by Siwi
  • A casual 1v1 group/league - WIP brought to you by yours truly

Forum Rule Reform

Recall from the last update:

The plan, as it stands, involves going over forum rules/policies with a small group gathered from around the community, then passing on any suggestions yielded to the community at large for general discussion before final organization into a cohesive report.

The group has essentially been finalized - if you were contacted and have not replied or still would like to be a part of it, contact me via PM and I will consider it.

The discussion will begin at some point in the next week.

Community / NA Competitive Community State of Affairs - *New Poll*
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:44:51 am »
Greetings!

I have created this thread primarily to facilitate discussion on the goings on of the competitive side of the North American community. More specifically, it is intended to foster constructive conversation on the issues troubling the community as well general suggestions for improving it.

Whilst the competive section is the primary focus, suggestions for the non-competitive side are also welcome in this thread.

I'd first like to get a general idea of members' opinions of the current state of the competitive community (as well as offer a preliminary opportunity to identify problems and to make suggestions).

To this end, I have created this brief (three question) survey.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to engaging the community in a constructive, meaningful manner for the next two months,
-Junedragon

Events / NW Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament - $20 steam game to the victor
« on: February 07, 2016, 09:35:11 am »
ayy lmao
wow
That's right, NWgioh bitches.

such duel
much heart of the cards

Make your deck here and prepare to get quickscoped by muh l33t dragon or ancient gear deck.
http://www.ygopro.co/Ygochrome.aspx

Gonna do this shit tournament style with format TBA depending on the number of players - most likely will be done over the span of a few days depending on numbers and availability.

Prize is a steam game of your choice up to $20.

RULES

  • All games wil be played with no time limit, 8000 starting LP, 5 card starting hand, 1 card per draw, November 2015 TCG banlist, TCG cards ONLY. - the deck editor walks you through this.
  • No pendulum summoning/monsters - if you are really deadset on using them, I'd suggest never playing the game again and/or suicide for the betterment of mankind
  • XYZ and Synchro summoning/monsters are allowed, but will result in you being branded a bitch, bitch.
  • If you make an Exodia (or other) deck that forces people to watch you play solitaire for 5 minutes, you're a cunt.
  • All matches must be observed (in spectator) by me or a ref.
  • Players are allowed a 40 card main deck, 10 card extra deck (used primarily for fusion monsters or XYZbitches), and a 10 card side deck.
  • Once the matches have started you CANNOT change your deck, use your side deck wisely. Changes can be made via pm to me up until the start of matches.
  • Using a card that is not registered will result in disqualification, no exceptions.

To join, post the application below in the thread. Once you have completed your deck, take a screenshot of it and pm it to me. Changes to a previously registered deck (up until matches begin) will be handled in the same manner. The reason for using pm rather than posting it here is so other participants cant study your deck in advance. I will only look at them when ref'ing a match (if you seriously think I'd cheat... just lol).

Screenshot should look something like this:

Application:

Username (in game):
I promise to abide by the above rules and acknowledge that failing to do so may result in disqualification at Junedragon's discretion: yes/no

Good luck and good memes.

Forum & Website / Overzealous Deletion of Threads
« on: January 25, 2016, 02:25:55 am »
It seems forum moderation has escalated over the past few months in terms of the way posts are treated when a moderator finds content to be in contravention of the rules. It has gradually progressed in the manner of:

Warn the user to cease their conduct and snip/edit their post

Do the same as above and warn all users on the thread to stop.

Do all of the above and lock the thread for a couple days til the situation cools down

Lock the entire thread for 2 weeks "until people learn their lesson"

Outright delete the thread (with no notice or explanation and on grounds that are flimsy at best)

It seems like a colossal overkill to, say, delete an entire regiment's thread and lock the new one for 2 weeks because of a handful of posts, predominately by people who aren't even in the regiment. And to give the shit excuse that some of the content of the thread "had nothing to do with the regiment" is just insulting. By that logic at least 9/10 regiment threads should be deleted (but the inconsistent application/interpretation of rules is a matter for another day, also chipping away at the sense of mod fairness/transparency).

I understand the need to trim out bad content, but the trend of deleting entire threads on the basis of a few posts which may or may not contravene the rules is rather concerning. The Right Wing Politics thread, for instance, was deleted last night with no indication of what was said which violated the rules. Moderation in this fashion can only serve to raise questions (eg. was this deleted because something was posted which I missed that broke the rules or because the mod disagrees with the opinions expressed in the thread?) and harm the transparency of forum moderation.

If the mods are going to proceed in this fashion (of outright deleting threads where some posts may violate the rules), it would be reasonable to at least make a thread here which outlines:

  • Threads that have been deleted (on a case by case basis)
  • Why they were deleted
  • Support (quotes if possible) for the explanation for the deletion. (ie. proof of rule infraction)

This is a simple measure requiring little time that guarantees transparency. I would argue its even more important than the list of banned users thread because outright deleting a thread removes all traces of the content and alleged rule violations.[/list]

Off Topic / The Gun Politics Thread
« on: June 29, 2015, 07:53:17 am »

Do you find yourself overcome with the urge to exclaim "FUCK YEAH!" upon the very mention of firearmsFUCK YEAH/the Second AmendmentFUCK YEAH/etc?

Do you own and/or love guns?

Do you think civilians should be allowed to possess and use firearmsFUCK YEAH recreationally and/or for self-defence (within reason of course)? With what limitations (licensing, restricted classes, etc)?

If you answered yes, no, "CHRIST I NEED TO GO BUY A(NOTHER) GUNFUCK YEAH", or "noo gunz is bad they iz kill people ban plz" to any of these questions, this thread is for you.

Basically feel free to discuss anything about the politics of gun ownership (from bans to background checks to the impact of firearms on violent crime).

A quote to get the ball rolling:

Instead of banning a fucking flag, They should ban their retarded gun use for civilians, Might get somewhere then. Yanks.......

Pretty much yes. I would assume flags doesnt kill ppl, even in the hands of extremely stupid ppl. But guns on the other hand...
True, but thats another topic :P

Rules:
1) Just try to stay on topic and keep the banter flowing.
2) learn what an "assault" rifle/weapon is before mentioning them. If you see that someone has failed to do so, you are encouraged to laugh at them relentlessly
3) Avoid personal attacks and obey the usual forum rules

Verdict in Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's ("Boston Bomber") trial is currently being delivered.

Guilty on first 16 counts so far (all death penalty eligible counts)

Death Penalty is banned in Massachusetts but the prosecution is federal so it is in play.

RIP

EDIT: update, guilty on all 30 counts, 17 of which are death penalty eligible

General Discussion / If melee was merely an "afterthought" in NW LB's
« on: August 31, 2014, 05:46:52 am »
It's been a contentious topic recently on discussions about BCOF recently as to how important/enjoyable people find melee in NW (with certain individuals claiming that a lot of the community do not see melee as a "defining factor" of what makes NW so great) so I thought I'd attempt to gauge a little bit how the community feels about melee in NW (specifically in linebattles; multi-reg events, 1v1's, or otherwise) with a little poll.

Basically, how would you feel if melee in LB's was a rare occurrence; an "afterthought" to shooting which would decide most linebattles almost exclusively.

Gave it a few varying options so its not too black or white.

This should be interesting  :P

Didnt catch much on screens but just check the logs from 3:30 to 4:30 (and possibly onward) for a myriad of racism, a few slurs, offensive terms and jokes (even after asked to stop by someone who was offended by them), etc.

Again, not sure how much if any is bannable (basing this report on the rules "- Any sort of behaviour that results in unwelcome responses will be dealt with i.e. trolling/annoyance." and " Do not make derogatory remarks to other players or regiments on the server...") but definitely worth at least looking into imo. The level of trolling today has been absolutely ridiculous.
