Off Topic / What did you guys major in?
« on: January 13, 2016, 07:56:53 am »
For those who have gone through university what major did you end up declaring? Did you make the right choice or did you end up regretting it?

I am currently a freshman and just declared Software Engineering

Two large high res pictures of Lady Butler's famour painting depicting the 28th Foot at the battle of Quatre Bras. On a side note as some might point out the 28th actuelly retained their stopepipe shakos throughout the 100 days campaign instead of adopting the Belgic Shako like the rest of the army as depicted.

Its recommended you open these pictures in a new tab.

Historical Discussion / The Passing of the Armies
« on: January 11, 2015, 07:54:26 pm »
Some amazing quality images of the Review of the Union Armies in Washington DC. Most of the units involved were disbanded and sent home in the following weeks. Images are of parading Infantry, Veteran Reserve Corps (Light Blue Jackets) and Civilians in the viewing stands.

I recommend opening in opening pictures in a new tab and zooming in on points of interest.

Historical Discussion / The Art of Aleksandr Yurievich Averyanov
« on: September 28, 2014, 08:33:29 am »
Great for Wallpapers. On many I recommedn opening them in a new tab and zooming in to see some of the individual dramas.

Aleksandr Yurievich Averyanov is an artist famous for painting Russian battle scenes such as the Battle of 1812. Born in 1950 in the town of Lopasnya, Averyanov graduated from the M.I. Kalinin Moscow School of Art. Inspired by the works of his teacher, Sergey Prisekin, Averyanov is known for his paintings displaying Russian scenes of war, placing him at the forefront of traditionalist art revival during the 90’s. Averyanov’s simulataneous depiction of the chaos of war and nature of the lands in which they are set in have earned his works a place in several museums and private collections.

Historical Reenactment / Your dream impression
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:57:01 am »
We all have the impressions/eras that we would love to do but cant due to lack of funds, scenes etc. What are the ones you would love to do and why?

I dont know about you folk but I love millitary paintings and plates. I have a 1.2 gig folder containing 2,384 pictures I have saved over the last three years. Surely there must be others who share my passion for some good ol Karl Rochling?

Events: EU / Interest in an NA Saturday siege event
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:06:29 pm »
Hello folk. My regiment (and I feel many others) would be very interested in seeing a NA weekend siege event like was hosted by cop, myself and grimsight for over a year. Seance Grim closed his nobody has started one. I think allot of folk would be very interested in seeing something like this if it has a quality server and organizer.

I just wanted to put this sentiment out there.

Welcome!

The IX Corps d'Armée Francais (33e Ligne, 15e Voltigeurs and 1er Polish Lancers) is proud to announce the establishment of the duel Tuesday and Friday Linebattle events. The aim and strive of these events is to be a notch above other community hosted linebattles in both administration, consistency and experience. The focus is to provide a event and linebattle experience free from pettiness whether it be drama or trolling and focus on having a true rewarding linebattle experience. To achieve this end we have a full administration and organization staff working to ensure the event runs smoothly and that all the participating regiments have a fair rewarding experience. This also achieved not just by the event hosts but my the attending regiments as well. All participating regiments are of high caliber both in their individual performance but as well in how they conduct themselves both in their interior and exterior actions with other regiments. Regiments who do not measure up to these qualities and expectations will not remain as attendees. This is done to provide an heir of competition and professionalism leading to a quality linebattle experience.

This linebattle administration includes Cavalry, Skirmishers and Artillery to add a tactical edge to the event and allow the opportunity to launch combined arms attacks upon the opposing team. Success can in a large part be determined to the team that bests utilizes these special roles to their advantage. The groups who will make up these roles due to their importance and  vital to their team are expected to be proficient in their role. Often these positions will be taken by dedicated regiments to these positions. Rules for the special roles and how you can apply for them can be found near the bottom of the thread.

Event Rules and Expectation

As already stated the drive of this event is to provide a quality, challenging and consistent linebattle experience for all participants. This is done in part by the event organizers but critically rests upon the shoulders of the attending regiments. With this in mind our expectations of our attendees are naturally high.  The Officers of each regiment will be held responsible for the actions of their rank and file. If regiments do not meet our expectations they will be replaced.  The hosts reserve the right to remove any attending regiment at any time for any reason seen fit.

Hey folk. I myself have been running track for the past couple months. I have found to my surprise a number of people in my regiment who run it and many people who used to. Its pretty fun comparing times and experiences with them so I felt like it would be cool to expand the discussion to the whole community.

What events do/did you folk run?

I myself am Varsity Sprints and Long Jumper. My most common events are the 100m,200m,400m,4x400m Relay and Long Jumps.

General Discussion / A concern on Rifle accuracy changing game play
« on: January 02, 2014, 08:28:23 am »
Hello folk.

This thread is about a concern/suggestion that I have had for a while but up until now never felt like I had any historical case to back it. The concern is cheafly about the musket accuracy in BCoF. As all of you know NW has always revolved around linebattle events. These are what draw most people to the game and are definitely what keep most people going. The current gameplay works perfectly for these events and is the main cause of NW's success.  As said before the gameplay system of NW is perfect for Linebattle events. However I fear that with the introduction of the Rifled Musket it will cause lines in events to be obsolete radically changing how events are played for the worse.

For this reason I believe that the accuracy of the average Rifles in BCoF should be no greater or only slightly better in terms of accuracy than the Muskets used in NW. The two main arguments for this are historical accuracy or Civil War rifles accuracy during battle as well as the sake of gameplay.

The effects  that drastically higher accuracy will drastically change gameplay from what we play in NW. These predictions are mainly drawn from the best example that most of us have played, the North and south mod. Although the mod is great (33rd Virginia!) it isn't very practical to make lines in it and everybody generally dives for cover. This type of events doesn't appeal to a vast majority of NW players and a fear that events in Battle Cry of Freedom would be similar to this if the accuracy is to high. As well if accuracy is to high it could likely cause a lack of melee. Although bayonets caused some 2% of deaths in the civil war a vast majority of players *myself included* really dig the melee system and consider it an important part of events.

Although not as important as the gameplay there is as well some historical facts that back up this proposal. I have recently been reading the book titles "The Rifles Musket in the Civil War - Myth and Reality" by Earl J. Hess. The book  brought some really interesting points that completely make me rethink civil war combat. It mentioned in detail how the effectiveness of the Rifles Musket was severely hampered on most cases in battle. This was mainly due to two things. Civil War soldiers on both sides almost universally were not trained in marksmanship. These was due to the rapid training most volunteers received. As well as in the heat of battle especially with smoke soldiers could not directly point out individuals and could often barely make out the enemy line. This was one of the causes of so many flag bearers dying. With this lack of training combined with battlefield conditions in most fighting during the war the civil war rifle was far from being as accurate as it was on paper.

In short I feel that raising the musket accuracy will harm gameplay in events with making lines obsolete and in gameplay in general causing melee to be more difficult to get into. Although historically accuracy is totally my jam I feel that it shouldn't intrude on gameplay in the way that it will if accuracy is any greater than what the musket currently in NW are. What do you guys think?

        • The 15e is a group of like minded mature players who strive to accurately portray the French Infantry company in it’s structure and organization in  during the Napoleonic Wars in Linebattle events. We use period correct drill and maneuvers during events as to the limit they can be effectively implemented.  We work in conjunction with line regiment to exploit advantages and launch combined arms attacks. We strive to be a disciplined regiment as well as  authentic and organized . This of course will not get in the way of having fun but a higher degree of discipline will lead to a more enjoyable training's which will lead to an increase in skill and performance in the field.

The 15e are proud members of the IX Corps . The IX Corps is a community of like minded, chill and professional players. Using the whisper feature in Teamspeak regimental officers from all the army's regiments work and startagize together in real time during events so that the corps can operate in cohesion with other army regiment and engage in combined arms attacks. Beyond events the Corps is a relaxed mature gaming community.

            • Skirmishing is a very unique role compared to what most other groups play. Historically and ingame the role of Skirmishers were to act as sharpshooters and kill enemy officers and harass line battalions. Unlike Line Infantry Skirmishers are allowed to have 3-5 man spacing, crouch  and may use terrain as cover. This makes skirmishers difficult targets. Coupled with the use of Rifles over the normal muskets  skirmishers have a unique advantage over most other players.  As compared to a majority of players as line infantry skirmishers have great freedom of movement during linebattles as well as are safer. With the spacing in line and the ability to crouch and use cover Skirmishers are very difficult targets for enemy Lines and Artillery.

Interested in playing with us? The 15e  are always happy to have fresh blood. As stated above because of the nature of skirmishers in linebattles we have strict entry requirement into the unit. To gain membership you must be at least 17 years of age and not have an annoying voice. You must be a mature and chill player as well. Skill is not an initial requirement however we expect member upon enlisting in the 15e to try their utmost to better their skills at the fastest rate. These requirements must still be met when serving in the 15e . If a member even after their initial enlistment is considered no a fit for the unit the troop has the right to remove said member. Read further about our troop's bylaws on our website's application.

Upon applying the staff will read over the application. If we feel not enough effort or information was put into it than it will be overlooked so be sure to write well. Upon deciding that we would like to go further you will be summoned via teamspeak by the troop staff. You will be interviewed about your past and what you can bring to the 15e. The troop holds the right to deny any application for any reason it deems fit. If accepted you will be given the rank of trooper and the staff will monitor how you act and progress in the troop. After applying the troop still holds the right to remove any members for any reason seen fit.

If you think you meet our requirements go to our website at www.IXecorps.com and submit an application that can be found on the application tab.
