| 1.1 This tournament will not be using GUID's, we do however reserve the right to disqualify the offending coalition if double regging is discovered. Periodic checks of the logs will be made to look for duplicate ID's joining matches, any found will be investigated. Likewise if any participants suspect another team they may contact the host for clarification. Inviting from other regiments which are also participating in the tournament will not be tolerated and may result in an auto-win for the opposing team. This change in rule has been introduced for a number of reasons but primarily to make this tournament less work for every regiment participating, do not abuse this freedom. 1.2 Minimum attendance to matches is 50 players, should one team bring less, the opposition may still field at least 50. If teams bring greater than 50 players, the maximum one team can outnumber the other is dependant on the number of players the smallest team has: - 50-59 (+1) (max specials 10) - 60-69 (+2) (max specials raised to 12) - 70+ (+3) (max specials raised to 14) 1.3 Both teams must balance to the above restrictions within the first 30 seconds of each round (notified by refs). Should any team not action a drop in players specified by the ref during this time period, they will either reset the round to give the team further time or slay at random to achieve balance (do not try the refs patience!). After this 30 second spawn period the round is Live and no revives or balancing by the teams (as a result of disconnects) will be performed. (https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50278688612_0786330716_o.png) | 2.1 Fire in Charge (FiC) & Reload in Charge (RiC) are not allowed by any units. 2.2 Should any rule-breaks occur the victim will always be eligible for a revive. A slay may also be issued to the offender if the rule-break was potentially deliberate (discretion of the referee). 2.3 All Charges may be called if either: both teams are considered camping (2.4) or if 10mins of the round have elapsed. 2.4 If either team is considered to be camping (neither attempting to gain or give ground) for 3 minutes the referee may issue a warning. Should the warning be ignored the team may be forced to forfeit the round. If BOTH teams are considered to be camping the referee may resolve the round with an 'all charge'. 2.5 Regiments hugging the edge of the map either individually to fight cavalry or en masse to avoid fighting or to delay is not permitted. The latter is largely subjective and down to ref discretion. Warnings to be issued as with the camping rule. 2.6 Regiments must stay together whilst in charge; individuals straying dramatically from the rest of their regiment (rambos) in an attempt to engage a 2nd enemy unit will be slain without warning. 2.7 Charging two enemy units at once is only acceptable if either both units are in close proximity to one another or your regiment is of sufficient size to engage the 2nd unit without breaking the rambo rule (2.6). 2.8 A unit is considered to have 'left charge' after the unit(s) they were fighting has been eliminated or approximately 15 seconds after the last attack connected; once that unit has 'left charge' they are able to re-form and follow their usual class rules. 2.9 Relating to rule 2.8 above; if two or more units 'leave charge' after 15 seconds of no attack connecting, then all units concerned MUST re-form (or join another unit if necessary) prior to initiating a new charge. Note that an attack must not have connected between the units concerned for 15 seconds for the above rule to come into affect. Should any match run over into a second week it is expected that those regiments play two matches in that week, to keep pace with the rest of the attendees. 3.4 If for any reason an amicable date/time to play is not forthcoming, we reserve the right to schedule the match for the next coming Sunday @7:00 UK as default. 3.5 Matches should be overseen by at least 2 referees, preferably 3 (particularly knock-outs). 3.6 Should either of the participants of the match or the ref wish to, all-chat can be disallowed. Kinda waiting for this arty stuff to get figured out before I sign us up because it is not clear yet who will play what class in case there is no artyAlright mate I'll ping a message round all the teams (including those that haven't posted yet)! Will get an answer out of everyone by the weekend hopefully. The question of all-charge cav dismount has also been tabled and will be asking for a vote on this topic aswell.

From my experience ~60% of the Cavalry dont even get into melee cuz they get shot in Charge, out of Line/Formation or just shooting when cav approaches. Heavy cav can be lucky and tank a shot but Hussars go down immediately + you should consider OA doesnt count for cav either or at least when he only gets dismounted. Last seasons of NWBC were mainly camping till allcharge which would make cav absolutely useless cuz if you try to charge enemy team camping you dont even get 5 kills...
+ consider its not a classical LB, its nwbc where all regiments coordinate and communicate which makes it impossible for the cav to catch a random line somewhere ^^
edit: most dont even seem to know how to play vs cavalry, that shouldnt be a disadvantage for cavalry just because most inf doesn't know how to deal with cav.
Is it that hard to kill cav in all charge ?? Dont you guys know to use ² key ? Their is already not many cav regiments left and you add rules for them meh.
Many good cav players know cav is OP in all charge if mounted. They have both speed and a range that rivals the bayonet, An experienced cav player will easily be able to pick off bayonet user in a fight and cause a lot of damage.
Also if you allow cav to stay mounted during an all charge you will just promote camping until all charge where the best cavalry regiment can do the most damage.

I don't see it as "turning around" in the sense that it's hypocritical, if that's what you are inferring.
It's evident to all that 15thYR is significantly stronger than both 33rd and the current 92nd after their gren split.
77y is likely stronger than 33rd and just below 92nd (not entirely sure on this since I don't see them too often).
4e is, imo, still the top cav reg in the game, but as I am sure you are aware the cav scene has been effectively non-existent for the past 6 months or so.
We can't be certain who will or won't perform over the course of a tournament when it comes to cav regs (putting aside the issue that some cav players in the top 3 regs have left for inf regs or the game entirely).
So it's fairly disingenuous to say it's hypocritical if you are equating the idea of 15th/77y/4e to 33rd/92nd/4e, but again I may be misinterpreting what you meant.

It's just that the fact that the hosts instantly teamed up with the 4e afterwards left a sour taste in my mouth. It's evident to all that 15thYR is significantly stronger than both 33rd and the current 92nd after their gren split.
77y is likely stronger than 33rd and just below 92nd (not entirely sure on this since I don't see them too often).
4e is, imo, still the top cav reg in the game, but as I am sure you are aware the cav scene has been effectively non-existent for the past 6 months or so.
We can't be certain who will or won't perform over the course of a tournament when it comes to cav regs (putting aside the issue that some cav players in the top 3 regs have left for inf regs or the game entirely).

Still need a bunch more refs if possible guys. As a rule of thumb if your team has not contributed at least 2 refs already then please apply over the weekend. Experience is not expected from everyone; I am quite happy to accept trial refs since matches will be observed by 2-3 referees anyway. Any questions please ask!Lets goo!!!
I've posted the groups and will post the initial match-weeks this weekend, suffice to say you will need to fight everyone in your group so the order in which you do so doesn't necessarily matter (plus since these are so difficult to organise it may be an idea to jump on the scheduling as soon as pos!). Apologies for the lopsided number in Group A and B, I did hope for a 12th team to either expand or at least balance the groups but it wasn't on the cards unfortunately. At present 3 teams from each group will be advancing to the upper bracket when the first stage ends, the bottom 2 or 3 will then compete in the lower bracket.
Servers will be up and ready for use by next week (still looking to add some more refs to the whitelists!) but if any teams wish to play sooner than this please let me know and we can sort something out. Best of luck all!

I think a week might be needed tbh, getting the matches monday takes 1-2 days of the start that games could be played (no offence im just beeing pragmatic) also having a real life, many of the regiments also host weekly events, a good 4-5 regiments of the tournament, have people in active warzones, lets give some understanding and dont expect to organise matches 1 month ahead ipoa.I would just say add a week onto the end of the group stage time to allow for this week. But I don't see why Ipoa shouldn't be able to schedule matches in advance. Its a very reasonable expectation especially for a league like this where a lot of matches will be 4v4.

It was a clean match with no major rulebreaks except one cav rambo and me forgetting to check for balance in the last round, sorry about that guys. Both opponents startet rather slow, testing each other but the rounds got shorter after the IVe got more confident.
We had some problems with server scripts which Kincaid tried to fix right before the match but he hadnt had enough time to figure out the problem so sorry for the inconvenience. I´m sure he will figure it out :)

Can't stress enough how messages like this are important to balance out some stuff that was written last night. I don't blame anybody, in the heat of the match it's hard to refrain yourself when you are facing questionable decisions. But anyone who experienced referring an NW match (in such a complex format especially) can relate how hard it is for one individual to keep an eye on everything that's happening so as a reference for next time, the slightest touch of empathy shown during and/or straight after the match usually goes a long way. Remember that some banter on TS within your private sphere does not equal +20 messages that - although taken alone wouldn't carry much weight - can be interpreted as rather offensive/aggressive when added up.
About the match itself, I won't lie, I didn't necessarily have a good time but it was still as competitive as it gets. The first round could have set the tone for a really fast & aggro playstyle on both sides but the following ones showed exactly the contrary. From my perspective, the whole encounter can be summed up by both cavalry regiments having the potential to be decisive in the late round, so whoever managed to keep most of it alive was ensured to have a large advantage in the final fight. This led to very delayed rounds, almost no enjoyable (brawly, evenly chaotic) melees on either side and pushed the 'run away, shoot & delay tactics until all charge was called' to an extent that was not particularly entertaining from the infantry perspective. The all-charge itself was no fun-saviour either as we ended up getting circled by cavalry on pretty much every occasion, which for anyone who played competitive cavalry for a time, was the equivalent of giving 25+ dismounted heavies short lances and asking the hussars 'go kill them but please don't take too much time'.
Obviously, as the last part of my sentence hints it, I am not blaming the cavalry on either side for refusing any form of fight till one regiment had taken the upper hand (number wise) on the other neither do I think the rule about staying mounted in all-charge should be re-written. It makes perfect sense and there wouldn't be much point in having cavalry in the first place if you force them to drop all of their advantages as soon as the round gets tense. I am only trying to demonstrate that in matches where both coalitions are on a somewhat even play-ground, the tactics that must be used in order to guarantee the win are simply not enjoyable, at least from the perspective of the infantry.
Now I would still argue the better team won last night. We (IVe) could have at least guaranteed a draw if it wasn't for the huge mental breakdown/tactical mistake/lack of communication (delete as appropriate) from our leadership in the opening round of the second half. From that point on, I believe we lost ourselves the match as the Team 9 coalition was simply way too experienced/skill to let such an opportunity run away from them. Good game, good luck for next and hopefully we'll get you next time.
PS: @Erik As a golden rule for next time, I would argue it's part of the leaders' responsibilities to ensure they are playing with the correct numbers at all times and that the ref(s) should only have to be held accountable for reminding the regiments of the balance that must be observed, not doing the maths for them in the first place. I think you will agree with it's neither fair nor right to expect a solo ref to be checking the numbers of each regiment at the beginning of each round when he has a lot of other things to take care of.

You're right but as a hussar, and I think it was the same for 4e, engaging sooner against stacked infantery and cavalry is goddamn difficult/suicidal, so we have to wait for big lines to engage first, all this leads often to excessive delay

Totally agree with LaSalle., It's suicidal to face a inf player face to face or against stacked infantery with the extension of the bayonet, it's like a spear, it's lost in advance. :(
For Erik and numbers, we didn't watch all 30 seconds, but to be honest, it's not just one rider who will make the difference, since you always outnumbered us, from round 2 we put in spec, we didn't do it on purpose, You know that we don't need that, But you are right to point it out.

I would say considering there is already a max limit depending on the size of teams, go a step further and say actually if the all charge is called but the cav makes up what looks to be, 40% of the remaining players then have them dismount or something.
Like if its 30v30 but only 5 cav on each side just let them stay mounted. But if its 30v30 and there is 12 cav alive from that, then perhaps yes make them dismount.

When the all charge is called and cohesion is lost, the point is for it to be an equal playing field for everyone left to the best of the admins ability. If you are not allowed to stay mounted during allcharge as cavalry there is no point of even allowing cavalry, dismounted cav is just bad in allcharge...
mounted cav in all charge is the most pain in the ass i can think of. I think no one except the cav enjoys them being mounted during all charge. A good cav is really effective in a classic linebattle, but in all charge, where everyone is basically playing alone and everything is basically open melee, it gets more op.

Jokes aside, same discussion as in the last years. From my point of view cav should keep their horses as long as they actually fight and don't delay 15 mins in sharking around stillstanding inf. Many talked about having fun while tryharding in a non casual event but it should be not a game plan to camp 10 mins, let the better cav win in the All charge and then slowly let the cav pick up the inf. An all charge should bring a quick end to a round after some skirmishes, some proper engagement or maybe a big fight. So maybe a good addition for the rules would be something like: if both teams camp (and don't want to have fun), all charge dismount so hopefully the next round will be something else. Why do I wanna ruin the game of all cav players, do I want them to charge right from the spawn into shooting inf? Ofc not, I personally don't see the problem with cav being to less active (not speaking of all charge were they cav with horses can spent what ever time the want and need cause obvious reasons) but more the lines to be more active and "create" something. In my opinion the teams should more focus on tactics playing for a victory within the first 10 mins and not waiting and praying that daddie Dokle and mommy Goodest carry my fat a**. There is probably no cav which wants to get dismounted before getting nearby any enemy but I am certain of it that there are many ways to bring a cav in melee range from enemy lines and surprise them without or only taking a few shots (even if some inf boys may die for it while being a distraction for enemy fire).

Never have I ever seen such a ego driven admin such as yourself. You constantly made up rules and refused to drop the insane 10-15 man lead your team had for 3 rounds. You refused to apologise for your fuck up on multiple rule enforcements and then blamed us for your mistakes threatening to ban anyone who spoke out against you. Most of the time our team had pushed even tho your insane amount of specialists compared to team numbers made the match unfair and unfun.I was only there for the last like 3 rounds and I don't particularly care about the event/the interregimental drama. Can't really say much about the accusation of John banning people for saying anything since I didn't witness that myself but there was definitely a massive imbalance in terms of numbers. For all 3 rounds I was there I would say we were outnumbered by around 10 men and it wasn't balanced. That being said, John is certainly right and we had a dismal showing in terms of attendance and it was a meme that we had more lights than our miniscule main line (55th that is). You'll likely get a better picture yourself by watching a video, if there is one, but I just wanted to drop my 2 cents here.

I get your point Price, I didn't agree with the wording some members choose, but on the other hand I am very disappointed that Round 3 (I think?) there were at least 5 or 6 Infantry Players shooting after Pepsi killed the first one and none of them got slayed. It is demoralizising for cav to stay behind a hill for a certain amount of time just to get shot IN CHARGE and not having the chance to get any impact on the game due to a rulebreak on the other team...That was me who got killed first from behind after we lined up to shoot. I get your point, but between the time where he killed me and we volleyed there can't have been more than 2 maybe 3 seconds at most after I had already given the order to fire. We all immediately died getting sandwiched between your line and your cav. So I don't know what you want the Admins to do, revive then slay them again to prove a point? You won that round with 38 people alive it was a landslide. The admins gave a warning to us for the FiC and that should be it done. At that point its like me sending death threats to the man behind the shop counter for selling me the wrong brand cigarettes. I'm still getting the cancer either way just stop the whining.

Don't get me wrong Chriseh, I understand your points and agree to most of them, but when someone reads your messages above he could starts think about a really one sided match were only one team made mistakes/had bad behavior towards the admins. The were also some hiccups from your team, for example the admins had to tell your team every round about class limit for lights and/or cav. I know that sometimes there will be someone to fuck it up but then arguing against the ref and messing it up every round? Also yes, we played quite passiv in the second round, cause your whole team were grouped up, waiting behind a hill and pretty close to the map border (which oblivious was to close out of my point of view, the refs decided otherwise).
All in all, from my perspective it was a chilled game, the only people who could complain about it would be Dams and Zarwen for the, as always, fucked up chat. Thanks for reffing anyway bois!

If regiments (fucking especially the only one that bothers recruiting on a scale as large as 45th does) continue to just fuck with admins, hosts and other regiments so harshly, there will be nobody left to do it and we can already see this happening. I thought referees pretty much ignore all chat. I have been for years. If reg leaders have issues then it gets taken to steam, and should be the main form of discussion in events. But all chat has always been something to filter out. Tbh I ignore it as a reg leader too, so if a member is having a "moment" in chat I tend not to see it (and for which I can only apologise.) Learning to filter out all chat other than for OA / FiC messages is a great skill to learn for referees and admins. Is a shame that you need to do it, but it's nothing new.
The treatment of referees has been something that has been discussed for ages, pretty sure I made a point about refereeing in NWBC years ago now. NWBC is almost impossible to admin efficiently if there is only one referee watching 110/120+ players, it's not like NWL or EIC where you only have 1 class and 2 lines to watch. Therefore people make mistakes / are a bit slow and that's fine.
About the class limit issues, admins should also realise that trying to work out how many people in your group have spawned in takes a little time, and thus balancing isn't always immediate, it's not to do with trolling. Trying to rotate between members so everyone gets a chance to play also takes a bit of time too. A bit of understanding and patience on both ends goes a long way.
People complain about camping sometimes, but should remember old NWBC used to sometimes take at least 15-30 minutes per round before they put in the all-charge rules (hence why only 4 rounds per match originally.) Some things have definitely improved over the years. ;D Should be said that NWBC is still the best (and really, the only) event of it's type now, by a long way.

NWBC is almost impossible to admin efficiently if there is only one referee watching 110/120+ players, it's not like NWL or EIC where you only have 1 class and 2 lines to watch. Therefore people make mistakes / are a bit slow and that's fine.
About the class limit issues, admins should also realise that trying to work out how many people in your group have spawned in takes a little time, and thus balancing isn't always immediate, it's not to do with trolling. Trying to rotate between members so everyone gets a chance to play also takes a bit of time too. A bit of understanding and patience on both ends goes a long way.
People complain about camping sometimes, but should remember old NWBC used to sometimes take at least 15-30 minutes per round before they put in the all-charge rules (hence why only 4 rounds per match originally.) Some things have definitely improved over the years. ;D Should be said that NWBC is still the best (and really, the only) event of it's type now, by a long way.

Then to make sure that the results balance each other out, award everyone the worst scoring result so in this case a 4-2 win. Theoretically it would be the fairest way of doing it as a match result already played isn't being altered which could affect point difference.

I think we awarded everyone a 10-0 win vs Hellstaffs regiment (forgot the name) it’s just even after awarding everyone a free win and 10 extra points, 3pp went ahead of you in the group based on points which was just unlucky. If you look at the group, Iron Crusaders and Kebab in EU haven’t fought each other yet and so we haven’t even had the chance to beat them 6-0 as you wrongly pointed out.
Unfortunately your suggestion about keeping scores and awarding the rest of teams that hadn’t fought the dropped out team being awarded a 4-2 win is fucking stupid because if we let the scores stand and start giving predictive wins to certain teams for the sake of apparent ’fairness’ , wouldn’t that be the most unfair?
An example, take the 45thN who haven’t fought 55th as of yet, if they don’t turn up to the match as they fully dropped out why are we being punished and getting robbed from gettting the full 6-0 win and getting those 6 free points. As the 55th team wouldn’t be progressing regardless of whatever their match history (irrespective of loses ties and even wins) then the fairest thing to do would be rather just give everyone a 6-0 win against Kebab in EU as they’ve dropped out and you’re not to be punishing anyone as everyone else in the group would have had a free win.
You mentioned not affecting points difference but how does taking away potentially won points from the 45thN team in this example, be not affecting the points difference when the rival team doesn’t even show up?
Another angle which makes my case and point is within the Iron Crusaders example, where we as a team would 6-0 Kebab in EU not because we are better but because the reason the 55th team dropped out was lack of attendance and as seen in their GardeKorps match. them struggling to reach 40 attendance, the +10 advantage of the GardeKorps made quick work with the match just finishing with 6-0 for the GardeKorps in just 19 minutes. So why are you assuming that the 45thN team would only win by 4-2 dropping two rounds to a team that can’t even bring 40. Admittedly it’s wrong to assume any score but what can be clear is, a team who dosent show up to a match in the group stage should get the default score 0-6 as they literally hadn’t won any rounds and it’s wrong to assume they would.
But hey, I guess there’s a reason in previous tournaments when regiments drop out in groups everyone is awarded with a free full win regardless if they’ve had already played. Your empty contribution just makes no sense and infact makes it more unfair!

It was a good match - nice & tight but refs i know it s hard to watch out everything but there were huge errors tonight from you aswell.I think since the max number of lights is 10-14 depending on numbers, so that would violate the number of lights rule. Assuming their lights started out with the maximum allowed.
As for the 'topping up lights' this is a big no no really, despite not being specified in the rules to me it is fairly obvious. Refs are often lenient with allowing fully depleted lines (less than 4) or dismounted cav from joining lights but not if this takes them over the maximum number. If this is a major sticking point for people then we can potentially just draw a line under it and amend the rule to state 'Join a friendly line' instead.

In the last round we already had some loses and the 3 lines + few cav (can't remember how many where alive) boys joined us to fill out the gaps. We're not a cav reg and it was the very first (and hopefully last time) that I had to lead cav in a competitive environment, so mistakes were bound to happen. 100% agree with this point, just to clarify - our depleted grenadier line of 3 joined up a relatively battered Nr13 Lights where at the end of the day was a mix match of some Nr13 Lights, some dismounted 45thN cav and 3 grenadiers.The point isn't that line and cav aren't allowed to join lights in general. The specific problem here was that those units joined the lights and brought the total amount of lights to 15 (whilst the limit was at 11), in a 30v30 scenario, in the final round, with the score being 3-2 to us.

Also just as an update for those not in the groupchat; last groupstage match has now been organised for next monday, by which team we can properly crack on with the knock-out stage. Might be an idea to start coms with you 'potential' opponents to get the lay of the land so we can have these following weeks go smoothly, especially since the stakes are higher!

Wouldn't have been an issue if those 2 Lights guys joined the line that was charging towards us, but they specifically ran behind us to surround us whilst we were still firing which is what I have a problem with. The melee ended up fairly even despite this, 3v5 so it was definitely winnable and killing a line and what remained of the lights definitely could have swayed the round in our favour!

If you are not allowed to stay mounted during allcharge as cavalry there is no point of even allowing cavalry, dismounted cav is just bad in allcharge...
mounted cav in all charge is the most pain in the ass i can think of. I think no one except the cav enjoys them being mounted during all charge. A good cav is really effective in a classic linebattle, but in all charge, where everyone is basically playing alone and everything is basically open melee, it gets more op.

Is there a reason the GUID system isn't used anymore? I'm assuming just time and effort but if there is another reason I'd love to know
