Overview

Lot of text, just incase you want to read it.
At Star Wars Celebration today, EA announced that Star Wars Battlefront II will be released worldwide on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17 and is now available for preorder.

Battlefront II’s campaign will take place in the 30-year period between the end of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The story will follow protagonist Iden Versio, who leads an elite Imperial unit called Inferno Squad, and players will get the chance to play as well-known characters like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.

According to EA, the campaign is developed by former Ubisoft Toronto head Jade Raymond’s Motive studio, and new characters have been created “in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm.” On stage at Celebration, Lucasfilm confirmed that Battlefront II's story will be canon within the Star Wars universe.

“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars,” Motive game director Mark Thompson said in a statement. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”

Battlefront II’s multiplayer, meanwhile, is once again developed by DICE, who developed the first game. Battlefront II’s multiplayer will span all three eras of Star Wars films and will have playable heroes and villains including Rey, Luke, Yoda, Darth Maul, and more. Modes will support up to 40 players, and maps announced so far include Yavin 4, Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base.

Space battles will also return, and are in development by Criterion, who previously worked on the Burnout franchise as well as the X-Wing VR experience in the first Battlefront. EA says Battlefront II offers “high stakes dogfights” and with land and air vehicles, and players will be able to pilot ships including a First Order TIE Fighter, the Millennium Falcon, and more.

An Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will be available for preorder including upgrades to all trooper classes and access to the game three days early on November 14th. EA Access subscribers will be able to play as early as November 9th. Anyone who preorders Battlefront II will also receive The Last Jedi-themed content including “exclusive Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks” based on the characters’ appearances in the upcoming film.

While the full cast of Battlefront II wasn't revealed, EA confirmed on-stage that Janina Gavankar (True Blood, Halo 5) will play Iden Versio, and Paul Blackthorne (Arrow) was briefly shown in a behind-the-scenes video, though his specific role is currently unknown.

Today’s reveal follows a short teaser for Battlefront II that leaked earlier this week. EA has been teasing a Battlefront sequel since last May with “bigger and better worlds.” Last year, the publisher confirmed that Jade Raymond’s Motive studio is working on the sequel, and EA first hinted at Battlefront II’s release timing on an earnings call earlier this year.

Battlefront II will be playable at EA Play, EA’s public event that takes place just before E3 2017 this year.

My personal thoughts?

Battlefront launched very well. It was enjoyable here and there a few bugs but not major game breaking. When time passed the game began to get a lot of hate. Which is understandable. Lack of content. All had to be bought with micro transactions. Oh and the Season Pass. Just EA again begging our money for their pockets.

Battlefront II does look promising. All eras (first to see then to believe), NO season pass is confirmed which is awesome. They don't want to have a community riot. Should have thought earlier about that but alright. And it looks like we get more maps. Also new ones we haven't got seen before. A lot of customization and an offline campaign mode. I really hope they do include instant action or some sort of it.

All in all it seems very promising, but being careful is in my opinion important. As EA is known with their past...

Here is the trailer so you can watch for yourself if you want to. I'll post some updates later.

"so world war 1 had zero germans who were black so lets devote 25% of the online characters of Germany to being black, and while we're at it, lets just make 50% of all the classes black even though the largest percentage of black soldiers for any nation was France but less than a 10th of their forces were black"

she looks like fucking Kim Kardashian complete with makeup and highlight. The problem is that the political correctness police over at Disney now own the largest film franchise in the world and they will proceed to shove minorities down the throats of star wars fans. I don't mind minorities, but it's so forced and not proper. Give a character like Vasquez from Aliens who actually looks and plays the role of a marine properly.

Fuck Disney. I just want to play a game without having female leads shoved down my throat

I agree 100% on that. It was just the comment on the black that triggered me a bit. But I don't like it also that games have females as lead characters. Defo could have maybe picked a Clone trooper commander like Cody or a Captain like Rex to do a campaign with them. Something with the clone wars we have not seen before.

Posting this here as well
EA wanted to show the multiple eras and cross-era heroes featured but it was nonetheless quite jarring for the world premiere of multiplayer gameplay on the Assault gamemode. Rather would prefer if the cross-era heroes were first spotlighted in a hero team deathmatch mode. I'd like to see how Yoda and Darth Maul would fight each other in that. It just leaves more questions right now. Like if Rey and Han Solo can be on Theed Palace map, can other cross-era heroes be selected on the same map? Can same-era heroes be selected too? Or is it fixed to only two particular heroes? I believe Rey would be one of the first heroes completed in time for this reveal as to why she was showcased, but I would of really liked to see Qui Gon if he would be in the game at all. That and was wishful thinking to see the Naboo security guards and droidekas. Or singleplayer gameplay, but the livestream was exactly what the teaser described, multiplayer gameplay. The pre-alpha is pre-alpha state with the combat sounds (not the shooting sounds) which I hope will change. I immediately recognized the same when-hit sounds and death sounds from the first game. So far, I was only slightly disappointed on that sound front. The voice acting for Darth Maul, Rey, the clones and droids all seemed on point. While watching I noticed players had all sorts of different weapons, the droids using apparent clone weapons or otherwise. Like a shotgun. Unsure how to contemplate that at the moment.

It seems in lieu of paid-for DLC, the game will have a live service that may include cosmetics and similar being acquired by a crate system or possibly micro-transactions, while new heroes, maps, weapons, etc will be free for all players apparently, post launch. I would presume the different looks, outfits of soldiers and all would fall under this live service category and not be free and easily acquired DLC. For example, the clones officer being a Republic officer with cap and uniform and not a clone officer with armor could be cosmetic unlocked. Or it would be nice variety at least. However more realistically in expectations is normal customization first. Like different colored shoulder pads for clones, secondary body colors for droids and similar.

Post-launch free content sounds great and all and the gameplay looks nice graphically, but I will wait for additional information leading up to release.

At the end of the day, I just really want some more info weeks/days before release. So close, and yet so far, far away. Really liking how the game is shaping up though.

I saw the playing at E3, the fucking graphics are amazing, looks like its going to be great, I have it on my ps4, with the season pass, so hopefully there are some nice DLC's this time again :)

And these are free, no season pass only small micro transactions that are not game breaking or being a pay to win. Everything you buy with micro transactions you can also earn in-game.

Then you got the clone wars era and the TFA era. Full campaign,  expanded skirmish. Game will have 3 times more content than the previous game.

Space battles coming back.

Yeah, EA learned finally from their mistakes.

It looks good, won't lie. I'm wondering how the customization will work if there's any. I'd love to make a painted clone trooper to be like the 501st or something like that, or make a Captain Rex type helmet, add in tally marks to represent kills, etc.

I also love the decision from EA/DICE/Lucasfilm to use Dee Bradley Baker as the clone's voice. I love Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett) but this just feels so much better and some much needed PR for the devs.

I hope the droid army gets their customization aswell. They also had different colors. Now we only got to see the basic droid and the red security droid. Would be nice to see a droid with yellow marks. Commando droids would also be nice to be added. But they only appeared in the Clone Wars animated TV series. Though they are lore.

"Everything is proceeding as I have forseen."
So far so good. Really good. I wanted to see some singleplayer gameplay but this is really fine. For one, thank gosh no more paid DLC locked maps that split up the community at large. I'm debating which system I would get this game for though, couch co-op is nice, but so is community atmosphere or size.

The pre-alpha state of the game was the main source of my nitpicks. There is even video of EA/DICE/etc pls with the combat rolling in four directions now.
https://clips.twitch.tv/GlamorousFurtiveDonutPlanking

If they fix the pre-alpha ness (same death sounds, Boba Fett's flamethrower melee not working, etc) of the game by the time of the multiplayer beta, it will be very pleasing.

I already know what EA is going to do.

They are going to make star wars battlefront a series like call of duty, with releases every year. But, every year, the price is going to slowly go up for each new release, so we don't notice that we are slowly having to pay more and more each year for the game. So one year its $60, then the next is $60.33, then the next its $60.66. Along with that each year they are going to be putting less and less content in the game so they don't have to put as much work into it + more DLC packages. But it will be at a slow rate we won't notice this. Big companies are already doing this, look at the size of a soda can and a reeses cup from 1995 till now. Vastly smaller. Now the "King Sized" reeses, which was the size of a regular reesses back in 1995, now costs a dollar more than the new, regular sized reeses.

Another thing all the major companies are going to do, is shut down the multiplayer servers for the former game when the new release comes out, so anyone that wants to play the game on multiplayer, they have to spend money and get the newest release. EA is testing the waters with this, with the MLB the show series, every year they turn off the servers for the past year, and still the peoples lack of willpower gets the best of them, and they cave in and buy the new release.

Over the years, they are going to start doing this with their other series, like battlefield and battlefront, but slowly so no one notices it. Also other companies are going to start doing that as well with their games, so in 10-20 years from now, it'll be the norm to buy a half completed game for $70 with 20 DLC packages, and a multiplayer server that shuts down with every new release.

Why are we calling battlefront 4 battlefront 2?
Because EA wants to pretend the first two Battlefronts didn't exist for some weird reason. Plus, calling it Battlefront 2 instead of 4 might very well attract a lot of very nostalgic players, thinking this will be the same as the original Battlefront 2 and buying it for that very reason.

I personally think its because they are showing how this is the better one, and starting the series over again..

The Battlefront II 2017 beta is live to everyone since the 6th. Beta ends on the 9th 11th of October, extended. Bumping this for any new discussion, so let 'er rip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNGWh_-R1VE

I've played quite a bit of the beta so far and while it is certainly an overall improvement from 2015's game, there is a lot of work to be done. The more I read about feedback on the Battlefront series subreddit, the more imperfections that are noticeable.

Yeah, the LAAT gunship on rails without any air support of allied starfighters isn't fun to play much. Nice gameplay video. What's your thoughts on the Strike game mode? Takodana is very difficult as the First Order team when your allies think it is team deathmatch. For the Resistance team, it is usually a breeze if the whole team is working together. One visual bug I noticed though, the carrier's defend icon sometimes doesn't move so I lose track of who I'm supposed to protect or kill. The FO Flametrooper is way too underpowered for its DPS and hard-to-tell range of the flamethrower itself, I haven't used it yet even with the opportunity. Apparently the Strike game mode will have different objectives too depending on the map. Same as Galactic Assault.

I await your review video :D

Also the beta just got extended to the 11th of October now.

I found the resistance to be OP. Their jump trooper comes with a super powerful rifle compared to the FO's pistol for their jump trooper. Wookies are also way better then the flame trooper who is only marginally effective inside of the castle. It has no range to be effective in the outside portion. Overall, I think strike will be fun but I think heroes are sort of necessary, at least for the attackers, to be able to get it to the objective and then move it.
Edit: I also really like Darth Maul and I'm working on a compilation of myself using him. I found him to be extremely effective at breaking the stalemates inside the Palace hallways and although he usually dies, he can push your team forward. I also found him far better for hero v hero combat versus Rey. I think he's balanced well considering he can't block.

Overall, there's a lot of promise but I think it's going to take a lot of patches to get it truly 'balanced'.

I do like the gameplay itself a lot, but I think that the star cards (or at least some of them) are too strong and in my opinion have too much impact on the gameplay. (i.e. Boba's dmg resistance when using abilities(up to 100%!) or regaining health on kill (up to 50 i think). Also not a huge fan of the whole case-opening stuff, it does give the game a hint of a pay2win.

My favorite one was the assault classes vanguard refresh card. Basically everytime you get a kill it restarts the timer so you can effectively never stop using it should you get kills.

I like the star cards but only if they were unlocked by class rank, not drop crates

I'm content the game even has a campaign. The canon detail of the campaign could be quite amazing. Hoping it won't be super short. We'll be learning more details about the campaign, and most likely gameplay, this Thursday the 19th.
