Title: Sentry unit
Post by: Alan Davies on February 15, 2014, 09:01:23 am
What does the sentry unit do? It seems to have a flak jacket, does that mean that it can withstand explosions or shrapnel?

I believe the sentry is a scouting unit (hence the binoculars). As for the taking shrapnel and explosions... I am not too sure...

It's not a flak jacket. It's body armor meant to stop bullets, and i'm guessing the unit gets armor bonuses.

The Germans developed effective body armour. They gave it to sentry's because standing above the trench to look for enemy activity is a dangerous job as you can imagine. They also gave it to machine gun crews because they were exposed to enemy fire and targeted by snipers. It was balistic and schrapnal protection and I think they put that into the game too

I think the French used something like this.

My question is why the french don't have an equivalent.

Because they didn't manage to develop any effective body armor the entire war.

Couldn't you just add binoculars to an infantryman?

Maybe you could go the polar opposite, and have a really light scout unit with a pistol, knife, and binocs.

Sentry isn't a scout...

He sits in a trench all night watching for enemy movement. They were given armor because snipers liked shooting them since they were the only ones with their head up.

Yeah, I know, I was just thinking for greater unit variety, there's a few more German units than French, so it's only fair

It just looks like a scouting unit; binoculars, but it looks like the armor can withstand shit loads of shrapnal
